  • We stayed with Pomi for about ten days and had a nice experience. The area felt very safe; there were police on almost every other block. It's a bit away from the center of the city but it doesn't take long to get there by bus, so it isn't much of a problem. The house was big and had everything we needed; it felt comfortable to use all of the space. In terms of cleanliness, it's what you would expect from a single guy and could use a bit of work, but overall it isn't bad. Pomi was very friendly and would help us get by, from the day we arrived until we were at the door leaving. He is very well-prepared for tourists, having lots of information about transportation, tourism, history, culture, and the city in general. Even though we didn't speak much Spanish, he really put forth the effort to communicate with us. We even watched some of the World Cup with him! The room was spacious and ready for your stay. There was a heater, we were there in June so it was a bit chilly during some nights, but nothing extreme. We appreciate everything that Pomi did to help us and had a very nice stay at his home.

  • Pomi's hospitality was great, and it was great sharing a couple mates with him and hearing his family story. When he heard about why I had come to Buenos Aires (for freelance journalism) he immediately wanted to help put me in touch with people. Pomi was full of lots of great insights into the history of the city and the region. The room was exactly what I needed, and very comfortable. And if there is something that doesn't quite meet your expectations, you can expect Pomi to go above and beyond to make it right. For instance, when I first got there, the internet was chugging along at below 1 mbps, which was going to be a problem for me, since I had planned on using the web to upload files for work. But when I mentioned this to Pomi, within a few minutes he was flagging down an internet company operator outside and making calls to upgrade. 2 days into my stay, it was fixed. It's now blazing fast (I think it's at about 12-16 mbps). Pomi really went above and beyond.

If you plan on going out at night in Palermo (not just for a drink, but to partake in the awesome Buenos Aires nightlife until sunrise), be prepared for a long bus ride back. Those couple times when I was coming back on the bus after 5 a.m. and struggling to keep myself awake were the only times that the distance to the neighborhood was really an issue.

During the day, the bus system is awesome. It feels quicker. Plus during the day and evening, you won't be waiting at a bus stop for more than 5 minutes. It's really only those early morning hours when the busses are more infrequent and you're tired that you can feel the distance.

  • Pomi spent a lot of Time with us to present Buenos Aires on a Map and explained all the important things. But he just talked spanish. The room is small with a window to a floor so that you can't get Air. In the Night it was very hot but we got a Ventilator.
Finally its a good place to learn something about the life in BA and the Prize was okay.

  • This is a good place if you want to see a more authentic Buenos Aires than most tourists bother searching for. Pomi's house is located in the mostly working-class Barracas neighborhood. This is not Palermo. This is not Recoleta. It's an everyman's (and everywoman's) Buenos Aires. For us, this was a good thing.

I found Pomi to be a really lively, solid guy and a great source of information about Buenos Aires and Argentina in general (although you will need to speak Spanish for this to be true for you, too). Upon arrival, he will give you a bus card to get around town. I think he also has a prepaid SIM card for your phone if that's something you want.

All in all, this is a good place for the price. The kitchen is what you would expect in a house or apartment inhabited by a single guy. That's not to discourage you – we actually used the kitchen every day! – but just to make you aware.

I would definitely stay here again. Pomi was fun to hang out with as was Monica, a family friend who "minded" us for a few days while Pomi wasn't in town. They're just really nice people.

Tip: There are two rooms to choose from. One is bigger and has air conditioning. The other is smaller and does not have AC – just a plug-in fan. We were in the latter room, and I actually liked having the fan because keeping it on at night helped drown out the noise from a nearby tango place. This won't be an issue in winter (obviously), but we were there in the middle of summer.

  • We had a wonderful 3 days at Pomi's Hostel! Pomi, the father who lives and runs the AirBnB, does not speak English but was SO helpful, speaking in Spanish and explaining everything very well. As soon as we arrived he took us to an amazing empanada place and helped us navigate the menu. He provided us with a map, local phone, and a bus card on our first afternoon. He spent about an hour pointing out places of interest on the map and telling us about the bus system! Pomy even rode into town with us to exchange money. For things we were unable to understand, he called his son, Pablo, who interpreted for us :)

The only complaint we have is that the place is a bit far from town. The buses are easy to navigate but it is about a 30 minute ride to get anywhere in the center. Other than that, the place is great.

    Thanks, Pomy!
