We live in a lovely 16th century house that was originally a pub in the pretty village of Lamberhurst. Kent. Our house is spacious and very comfortable. We live here with our dogs ,Tia and Shisha & our cats,so you must be dog and cat friendly to stay here!
Parking is available on the street, we have wifi, and all the home comforts you could wish for. The rooms you will be staying in are clean, spacious, bright, peaceful and very comfortable. Each has a Queen size bed for 2 and all linens and towels are provided. You are welcome to help yourself to tea, coffee and some basic breakfast. You may use the kitchen to keep some food and cook if you wish, we only ask you clean up after yourself. One of the rooms has it's own sink and shower and there is a further shared bathroom and another toilet downstairs. We have a pretty garden leading down to the river Teise with a summer house for sitting and enjoying the views. There are also plenty of tables and chairs, lovely for sitting out in the warmer weather. For fisherman, the river has carp, chub and some trout.
The street we live on is a pretty residential road only 2 mins walk to the village shops and a 20 minute drive to Royal Tunbridge Wells. The village is well served with an excellent Italian restaurant and several other good pubs. There are many attractions to see in this beautiful part of the Kent with the coast a 30 minute drive and local attractions such as Scotney Castle and Bewl Water , great for sailing, cycling & walking on the outskirts of the village. Travel to London is approximately 1 hour by train from Frant station in the next village and lifts can be provided if required. We are also lucky to be near many historic places, for example, within 15 minutes drive, is Kiplings home Batemans & Sissinghurst Castle & aprox 40 minutes are Leeds Castle & Churchills home Chartwell.
We recommend hiring a car, as buses are infrequent. Good train line at Frant or Wadhurst 8 minutes away & very good line at Paddock Wood 10 + minutes away.
No smoking in the house, garden fine to do so.
We stayed 2 nights with Clive and Carol. They were both at home to welcome us and to show us their special, nice house and garden. The house is very unique with its bar and the little corridors. In the garden is a very nice teahouse, but it's also nice to sit in the garden beside the the water.
Clive and Carol are very nice and helpful, Clive gave us information about things to do in the surroundings of the village.
For our taste the house wasn't very clean, but the bedrooms and shower were ok.
Clive and Carol, thank you for your hospitality!
Clive and Carol are very welcoming. We found our way from Heathrow airport some way away only to get lost when close to the Horse and Groom, a town away. Clive and Carol were most patient and when we contacted them, managed to give us good directions although we were spent and guide us to their accommodation. Always helpful and even allowed us to use their Satnav to assist us in our exploration. We had our own area for food and a fridge area at our disposal. Bedrooms were comfortable and clean. Quirky shower, unusual for what we were used to but effective. Photos depicted area accurately. Must love animals to stay here, which we had no problem with - 2 dogs, 5 cats. Clive and Carol are happy to give you information on dining and areas to visit, maps in rooms quite helpful. Spending time with Clive and Carol at the Horse and Groom talking and having a drink lovely. Enjoy this 16c accommodation, very unique!
Wonderful house full of character in an amazing location. If the weather is good enough make sure you have breakfast in the back garden, the view is stunning. Our hosts were great too, thoroughly recommended.
Our stay at Clive's place was great, Carrol met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of their charming and interesting house. She also told us where the best local pub was.
The bed was big and comfortable, we had a great night's sleep. Carrol was also very helpful the next morning for suggesting places to see in the local area, being a member of the national trust she has a wealth of knowledge to share.
Lovely room in a very peaceful location . Clive and Carol were extremely welcoming and went to great lengths to make sure our stay was pleasant. A great weekend away in a quiet village. Would definitely stay again!
It just felt like home! Thanks Clive and Carol, we'll definitely recommend you guys to our friends, or even come back ourselves sooner or later! Cheers. Geoff and Laura
Incredible time in Kent, We picked randomly a place in Kent and we have been lucky enough to meet Clive and Carol. Not only were there lovely and available to share all possible tips and advises to visit the surrounding area but they are real interesting person that I would have love to know more.
They own an incredible house where each tiny corner might hide a part of the history of the place, an antique pub game or a funny quote. The pub main room is literally a museum. MUST SEEN for a foreigners. Probably also for locals !
Lovely hosts and a really quirky, interesting house. Go and stay - you won't regret it.
Clive and Carol gave us a warm and friendly welcome in their home. They are really nice and helpful.,so that one can feel at home;I even got a massage, because I had a tense back!Tank you!
A very lovely couple and a very warm welcome from the hosts. Sorry we did not have long to stay as it was just a stop off on long journey home from another visit. Character house and a nice comfy bed with a very snazzy toilet :) many thanks
