This room was awesome. I spent perfect days here. The room, kitchen and bathroom are very private and convenient. Walter is so kind and communicable as I requested for the iron, he brought a new iron for me. Thank you Walter and Susan.
My plans had changed and I arrived very late and never had the opportunity to meet Wally (they don't live there, but Wally has his office there) I was a bit frazzled by the time I got there and had some difficulty getting the lock box open and then opening the two entry doors. Wally prepared the way for my late arrival and had the apartment door open with lights on and gave instructions on navigating to the bedroom. I misunderstood the shared bathroom/kitchen and thought that there might be someone else in the apartment, but actually had the whole place to myself. The kitchen and all the rooms and linens are very clean. Nice towels. The bathroom could use some updating but was adequate if you're not too fussy. The daybed, though small, was surprisingly comfortable and the neighborhood is very quiet at night, atypical for an urban neighborhood, except for the occasional and brief, dog barking next door. The bedroom is in the back. There's a flat screen TV with cable in the bedroom. Inexplicably, there was no key to lock the apartment door while I was out, but there are two locked entry front doors, so I was not concerned. This is probably one of the best deals around Philadelphia for the budget-minded. There is street parking and each night I found a spot right in front. I would not feel comfortable walking around this neighborhood at night, but felt perfectly safe within and during the day. As Wally said, this is an urban neighborhood and one should keep that in mind.
This was my 1st time in Philly. Walter was very helpful. He provided a list of places to go and a map of the city so I wouldn't get lost. Parking was FREE and conveniently located a couple steps from the front door. As for the location upon first glance the neighborhood looked a bit sketchy. Never judge a book by it's cover. Looks are very deceiving the neighbors are very nice. The tenants upstairs from us made me laugh daily with jokes. Once I walked into my dining and sleeping area I was amazed. There's a gas stove/oven which I cooked on twice. I had full access to the refrigerator which made eating out easier. The toaster oven was used the most for reheating leftovers. My friend and I liked the day bed with trundle. It's surprisingly comfortable. The back bedroom is very cozy. Walter has drums and dream catchers as decoration. He provided cable TV and a desk for us to do our homework on. Oh I almost forgot he has fast WIFI. The only problem we had was the outdated bathroom. There wasn't a place to plug in hair dryer or flat iron. Had to do hair in the bedroom with no mirror. Overall I will definitely keep in touch with Walter in case I find myself back in Philly. Thanks for all the help and your hospitality. You ROCK Walter!
I had a great time staying at Walter and Susans place in Germantown. The room was clean, quiete and for me leaving early and coming in late I had the kitchen and bathroom for myself too. If I had any questions Walter would immediately get back and answerig my emails. He had lot's of good suggestions to make my stay in Philli as interesting as possible. A great plus for me was the option to rent a bike. I rode the bicycle all around Philli.
