Honestly the studio was a lot smaller than we expected because although the images are accurate they do a great job of making the space seem larger. We had no issues with the host and she left a wonderful bottle of wine to welcome us.
I have to mention that there is no AC which normally wouldn't be an issue in Amsterdam. However, this summer the temp. got as high as 90degrees and slightly humid. The top floor of the studio is the reason you'd pick this houseboat over all the others. The couch facing huge windows (without curtains) give a great view of the canal. The canal is beautiful and relaxing. However without AC and high temps it's impossible to enjoy the view or the top floor of the studio at all. This of course isn't the hosts fault because the listing states there is no AC but keep it in mind. It was a huge downfall during our stay, as we stayed in the bedroom below, without windows hanging with a small fan, nearly all of the time we spent at the studio.
The neighborhood is adorable. We felt safe the entire stay. Very relaxing and clean.
It's close to public transportation. About a 20-25min metro or tram ride to the center and action. I personally would choose to stay closer next time around, because we spent a lot of time closer to center.
I loved the idea of staying on a houseboat, and for the most part, the place lived up to my expectations. The place is wonderfully decorated. It’s small but it seems to have most everything one would need. Fortunately, I had a “rest day” while staying here, where I could just sit and watch the boats go by for a few hours. Fantastic! A couple of things force me to take a star from my review but I am sure the very communicative owner will fix them asap. 1. The place had a smallish pest problem, 2. About half of the towels were not clean. Fortunately, some were, so I just used those. Assuming the owner corrects these issues, then this place is highly recommended.
I stayed at the boat house for a short business trip. It's located on a lovely part of the Amstel river and neighbourhood of Amsterdam. It was very easy to get to with the help of Masha who was a wonderful host. She was very helpful and let me know where the local supermarket was and good restaurants were. I would definitely reccommend the boat house to anyone visiting Amsterdam. 5 star accommodation and 1st class host. Thank you Masha for letting me stay.
The houseboat was great! The description was spot on to what it was like. After a busy 10 days of traveling and staying in hotels, it was so nice to have a coffee maker (with coffee provided) and a mini kitchen. We were able to walk the 5 minutes to a grocery store which is right next to the metro and get some food for one dinner and stuff to pack sandwiches for our days out in Amsterdam. It was fun and relaxing to watch the ducks and and other activity around the boat. The downstairs where you sleep was very quiet and nice and cool. The shower's water pressure was really high too.
My only suggestion would be to add a shade to the front windows similar to the one that is on the side window. We came back to the house boat to rest around 5-7 each night before dinner and it was very very bright and hot. We wore sunglasses and even sat facing the couch :) When the sun went behind the buildings right around 7 it was perfect. I am sure during winter and cloudy days it would be fine without though.
We would stay again!
The reservation was canceled 20 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Beautiful view to Amstel river, but note this is not very spacious apartment. Suits for romantic stay for couples.
About the Host, Masha
I am Masha and have two kids Boaz (5) & Luca (3,5).
I live on the Amstel for 8 years. First we lived at a real boat, a sailing ship. We were in love of this place because of the oase of peace & nature in the middle of the city. But because of kids coming the ship became too small for 2 kids, so we started to realise an ark, this took about 1,5 year. On the 1st birthday of our daugther Luca this Ark was shipped to this place and still we are enjoying and we even love this place more and more.
I am a personal life coach, trainer and freelance project manager. My passion is to create indivudual, and social changes.
