We had a lovely time with Ailsa and Andrew and their family. It was our first time in Sri Lanka and having them as hosts made us feel safe. We were well looked after, their home offered a a much-needed respite from the busyness of Kandy 'city life'. Too bad we only stayed for a night----the view from their front porch is amazing.
Ailsas house is a very lovely and clean place to stay. She and her husband Andrew helps us a lot. We say to all friends, you must stay there!
Thank you for the nice time!
Very nice greets from Austria
Florian and Daniela
To say that we enjoyed our stay at Polwatte House, a little way off Kandy, would be an understatement. It was an experience without which our Sri Lankan vacation would’ve been incomplete. The tranquil riverside estate, with its many scenic views and peaceful moments was such a draw that we can’t imagine visiting Sri Lanka and not coming back here.
The lovely heritage home that Ailsa and Andrew maintain has all modern facilities despite successfully retaining its old world charm. Everything runs like clockwork and all needs of guests are unfailingly met. We never felt confined to our twin room and instead had a free run of the house. Andrew and Ailsa are friendly and engaging people who make great hosts. Their two charming daughters, especially Farah, were simply delightful.
We would like to thank the family for their generous hospitality. We can’t wait to visit again!
We are very happy to have being host in Polwatte House.
Ailsa and her family have been very, very nice to us, we felt like at home, warm and free.
The place is superb and very peaceful, the home is really nice, the garden and the river is a place where to stay long hours and enjoy the tranquility.
The food the made is tasty and delicious.
We wish to came back at anytime.
Thank you very much for your warm welcome Aisla and Andrew!
The house and garden are beautiful and we felt at home from the beginning.
Andrew and Ailsa gave us a lot of really helpful information and helped us for accommodation at different other places. Even after our stay we could contact them for help and that was really nice from them!
So it was great to start our trip at this place and we can say that it was one of our favourite places during our Sri Lanka trip.
The food was also excellent, thank you Usha and Nisha
Our only regret was not being able to spend more time at Polwatte House, thanks again!
Beautiful home on the river just outside of town. We enjoyed meals with the family and Ailsa and Andrew were very helpful hosts.
Polwatte house is in a fantastic homestay with a great story to tell, and excellent hosts. It is a huge house set well off the main road with only extended family for neighbours. The house has a huge lawn leading right to the river with great views and lots of wildlife passing by. Ailsa and her family and staff really make you feel at home, and are readily able to suggest or help out with any activities.
While it is in a fantastic location, it is not very central. This did not pose a problem however as there are a couple of tuk-tuk drivers on call who will charge local rates only, meaning that for us it was the same price as going to any of the sights in most places anyway. When booking I thought the location might prove to be a hassle, but it was not, and I am very glad I did not let it put me off.
The food was also excellent, and the internet the fastest I've come across in Sri Lanka, there were also no power outages while we stayed (for a week).
All in all I would definitely recommend Polwatte House as the best place I've stayed in Sri Lanka so far, after a couple of months of travel.
Wonderful start to our journey through Sri Lanka. Andrew and Alisa are incredibly generous and welcoming, I will be passing this listing on to my friends and family. They know Sri Lanka very well and are interesting people to get to know. Cheers to a great host family!
Stayed here for 2 nights and it was lovely. Andrew and Ailsa were really welcoming hosts - it felt more like we were staying with friends than at a B.n'B. -, the place has loads of character and is in a beautiful setting, and is nicely removed from the hustle and bustle of central Kandy. We had dinner with the family on one of the evenings and ate really good traditional Sri Lankan food (string hoppers, coconut sambol, egg curry). Overall I'd definitely recommend staying here - beautiful setting, lovely hosts and great value!
We stopped in Kandy after a month traveling through Sri Lanka and we could not have expected a better place. The setting is wonderfull, with the adjacent river. Ailsa, Andrew and there daughters are a beautiful familly and formidable hosts. Our time there was both relaxing and inspiring. We got to met friendly people and tour the surroundings.
The house is spacious and confortable, the food excellent and there is something quite magical to those evenings under the veranda. Our room was just perfect, simple and clean with a little breeze. We highly recommend a stay there if you are looking for a different experience and are open to meet people and share some ideas.
