Built in 1950’s, “House in the Woods” is a modern contemporary designed home, which has an upstairs for the hosts and an attached 2 story basement apartment for guests (see below for more info on apartment). For an added fee we now have a wood fired sauna and/or a 2 person hot tub. (for more information see below). We are not child proofed therefore, we don't accept children under 6. We are now accepting dogs (see house rules). During rental Airbnb account holder must be on sight.

The space
“House in the Woods” is at the end of a quiet and very narrow road. There is off street parking, separate from hosts parking. Apartment is down a path to the guests keyless entrance, which is down a slight incline. Path is uneven so please be careful. Guests have their own patio with a gas grill, table/chairs, and rocking chairs (not available during the winter) to relax maybe have your meals outside. The main road is not far from here so the traffic can be heard. The apartment is cozy and has a space heater in the winter and a new portable AC for the summer. You can sit in the living area and look out the 3 big windows and watch birds, deer, and other flora and fauna. There is a galley kitchen off the living area. It has a stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, blender and toaster. Pots, pans, dishes, utensils and a few other essentials are included. The 2 bedrooms and full bath are upstairs. Each bedroom has a queen bed, only one bedroom has AC. There is a sofa that turns into a bed if linens are needed there will be an additional cost of $10.00, which will cover added cleaning costs. All the rooms have ceiling fans.

There is a picnic table and fire pit that are available for guests use up a flight of stairs (outside) to the back yard.

Sauna and 2 person Hot tub are available for an added cash fee:
Sauna - $50 for 45 min. (A signed waiver for use of the sauna is required prior to use.) This is a wood fired sauna hand crafted by David the co-host of “House in the Woods” . Robe(s) and towel(s) are provided for guests use in the sauna. Hosts will be available for any emergency that may occur and to let you know when session has ended.
2 person hot tub - $60 for the length of your stay - A pergola was built by David for the hot tub. There are curtains for privacy. Towel(s) and robe(s) are also provided.
Reservations for one or both is required. Fees are to be paid in cash to hosts!

In house laundry room is available upon request for long-term guests that are staying 7 nights or more. Hosts will need to make arrangements with guests to use laundry room.

Grassy Creek Golf course is within 1/2 mile. Walmart, Ingles food market, gas/convenience store and restaurants are within 10-15 minute drive. Penland School of Crafts is only 15 minutes away. Blue Ridge Parkway is 4 miles away and is a wonderful way to see the beauty of North Carolina. There are lots of places to explore on your way south to Asheville where the Biltmore is and so many other amazing places or go north towards Boone and see where Daniel Boone lived. Do you like hiking? Mt. Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain, Linville falls, gorge and cavern, Roan Mountain and Crabtree falls to name a few, are great for hiking. There are other fun things to do within an hour away skiing, snow tubing, zip lining, kayaking,... There are breweries, wineries and a few distilleries within an hour if you are interested. We are right up the hill from the main road. The Golf Course is just down the road as is Walmart, Ingles and other shops and restaurants that are within minutes from us. Downtown Spruce Pine is quaint and has some nice shops and restaurants. Little Switzerland is up the road, and has a wonderful cafe and Emerald mining is down the road as well. Blue Ridge Parkway is within 10 minutes. There are a couple of mines that you can check out only a few minutes from here. We have 1 resident dog, who is friendly and an indoor cat. We have a information available on many of the attractions and restaurants.

Hi my name is Carol. David, my co-host and I moved from CT to N.C. July 2019. David is retired and I am semi-retired. We both wanted a change and Western NC beckoned to both of us. It took us over a year of looking at over 100 houses to find this fantastic house. It was perfect for what we wanted. It had plenty of land for gardens, a shop for David and the neighbors were not right on top of us. We moved in and then got the apartment ready for an Airbnb and opened September 2019. We have planted two vegetable gardens, an herb garden and have blueberries, raspberries, black berries and a few fruit trees. There is also 4 Honey bee hives we have just started that is not near the guests. We have deer that will be on property at different times. David, Kady the dog, Callie the cat and I absolutely love the area and all it has to offer and we continue to look forward to hosting guests.
