Owner-managed! Unique, fair cancellation policy: if someone rents it for dates you canceled, you get a refund. Why should you pay if it gets rented after you cancel? Near Harvard, MIT, MGH, Children's Hospital. Private, modern, clean, serene. Sleeps 2 couples + infant. Very comfortable queen bed in bedroom. Living room queen sofa-bed much more comfortable than most. Pack-n-play for baby. Air conditioning. Big kitchen. Dishwasher, gas range, cookware, dishes. Washing machine & dryer (no fee).
The space
Terrific location, 8 minutes walking to the metro (look up Central Square Red Line T Stop), two minutes by car to the highway, and fifteen minutes to the airport.
This is a spacious, light-filled one-bedroom apartment, legal and registered with the city. It is in our two-family home. We live upstairs. The apartment is on the ground floor, about 4 feet above ground level (you have to climb 5 stairs to enter). It is surrounded by the backyard & garden. Lots of light.
The apartment has a quiet elegant bedroom, with a very-comfortable queen bed. The directional reading lights above the bed have shelves and ports for smartphone charging.
In the closet are a high-quality front-loading washing machine and dryer. There's an iron and ironing board, and a full-length mirror too. There's a credenza under the TV that's filled with extra towels & bed linens.
We provide coffee beans and a grinder and powdered creamer. The kitchen is modern and fully-stocked, with a gas range, a dishwasher, solid granite countertops, pots & pans, and lots of dishes, glasses, etc.
The living room has an unusually-comfortable queen sofabed. (If you are very tall, remember that sofabed mattresses are 72" long, vs. 80" for standard queen bed mattresses.)
We also provide a safe bed for an infant (a pack n play), with sheets; and a high chair.
Parking is on the public street, and it's easy to find a spot. You'll find the parking permit on the table when you arrive. The permit is for any car, even if you do not have local license plates. Be sure to put the permit on the driver's side dashboard.
In the living room, there is a 55" 4K TV (TCL Roku) with all the usual apps. There's a printout of the owner's manual in the apartment. (We're not able to provide tech support.)
It may be possible for you to use the backyard, if we don't have plans - just check with me. You need to understand that the backyard is not part of the Airbnb rental package, but I am happy to let you use it if we're not using it, as a personal favor. The backyard has a big table & chairs, a Weber Genesis grill, and a small sectional sofa. The sofa must be covered at all times when not in use.
*** CANCELLATION POLICY ***
Airbnb's "strict" cancellation policy gives you no possibility of a refund, and I don't think that's fair. My policy is that if someone else rents the space after you cancel, you should get a refund. So, if you need to cancel, just go onto the web site and cancel. Then, after your dates have passed, send me a message to find out if somebody else used the space during your dates. If so, I will issue a refund according to what the new guests paid.
If you need to change your dates, there's no need to contact me -- just go on the web site and submit the change. If the web site doesn't let you make a change, it's because someone else has booked the nights.
Guest access
You will have a private entrance, and you will have the whole apartment to yourself. Access is by a computerized lock. Sabbath key available on request.
The apartment is totally private and most guests never see us.
Other things to note
Please be sure your booking accurately reflects the number of guests. There is a $40 nightly charge for each guest beyond two (other than infants). This is charged automatically when you enter the correct number of people in making your reservation. Please be sure the number entered in Airbnb's reservation system is the correct number.
$100 fee if parking permit not returned.
Laundry detergent is dispensed automatically, so you don't have to worry about adding it.
There is a full-length mirror on the back of the closet door, and there are two portable makeup mirrors.
Use the 4K Roku TV however you'd like, but we don't know how to provide any kind of tech support. A link to the user's manual is provided in your check-in message and in the notebook in the apartment. Don't forget to log out of all of your services when you leave.
You will be staying in our family's home, and we will be right upstairs. The neighborhood is very quiet, except for birdsong. Please don't smoke in the house or make a ruckus. Quiet time is 9:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m., but that just means no loud noises. Normal activities are fine, including checking in, checking out, coming and going, talking in a normal voice, cooking, watching TV at a normal volume...

Total privacy and quiet. Keyless entry. Three blocks from the gorgeous Charles River. Midway between Harvard Square and Central Square. Map location: the intersection of Kinnaird and Jay. Easy walk to Harvard Business School, undergraduate, and law campuses. MIT is close by. There are tons of great restaurants and bars, and a nearby gym that offers day passes. Lots of nice parks for kids very nearby. Street parking is easy, and the permit will be waiting for you on your arrival.
