A beautiful, very comfortable and restorative escape, the yurt is located under the stars on a private knoll on our small homestead.

☽ Private deck looking out over woods and fields
☽ Strong Wifi, full and normal utilities (hot & cold running water, electricity, internet, shower)
☽ Firepit under the pines, bring your bourbon and marshmallows!
☽ Full-sized organic mattress with a wool topper, hotel-quality linens and pillows
☽ Heated with wood – in winter your fire tending = warmth! We will help you.
☽ Composting outhouse > it is spotless, odorless and about 10’ from the yurt door
☽ Hot and cold running water in the kitchen year-round.
☽ Full kitchen with cast iron cookware, quality equipment and not shitty knives ☺
☽ Guidebook with daytrips, nature spots, trails and eateries upon request
☽ ** Winter shower note** There is an outdoor shower that we turn off for the cold season to avoid burst pipes. If having a shower is important to you, keeping the shower on is an option if you agree to: a) a quick in person lesson on using it and b) a refundable $200 deposit that we would use if you forgot to turn it off properly and the pipes burst. Please let us know in your inquiry whether you would like this option. If we don't hear from you we will assume you are happy to stick with the hot water in the kitchen sink for washing up.

Guest access
The yurt and deck are all yours and very private.

Other things to note
☽ This is a quiet, rural retreat space. Music and outside conversation should be mellow
☽ Most cell carriers should work, although T-Mobile is known to be iffy
☽ We have two friendly dogs
☽ The yurt shares six acres with our house and a cottage, which is also for rent. We are a quiet family, but you may hear occasional farm and family sounds in the distance.

We can advise you (and have a guidebook on draft if you’d prefer) on awesome hikes, skis, restaurants, swimming holes, canoe or kayaking excursions, pick your own farms, cider donuts and hot apple cider stops, winter ice skating ponds, full moon forest explorations and on and on. We can direct you to rental equipment, and are near the famed and wonderful West Hill Bike Shop, which has everything bike, ski and snow that you might want.

The small village of Putney offers a sublime farm-to-table restaurant, an atmospheric and genuinely local pub, a dreamy pick your own orchard, a kickass yoga studio, the oldest general store in the state, a bookstore with great pour-over, and a community co-op with excellent local products. Within 30 minutes you’ll find several villages that will give you that storybook Vermont hit, with great places to eat and explore.

Our seemingly tiny town offers a remarkable amount array of cultural choices, including the famed Next Stage with all manner of arts and music events, the renowned Yellow Barn for classical in the summer, Sandglass Theater for puppetry. There is an old fashioned community supper the first Friday of every month, and you are welcome to come (and you should).

We are Hans (a life long Vermonter) and Kathleen, who moved here from from Northern California in 2016. Between us we have four teenagers (two still at home), and have built our small farm homestead together over the last few years. Our time is spent working on the land, growing food, building stuff, cleaning up after kids, animals and weedy gardens, and when we can, hiking, skiing, paddling and just being. We share a vision of life as a brief and beautiful gift, and we both endeavor to practice presence, self care, and right action every day. We are in relationship with our beautiful land here, and we believe that caring for the soil, plants and trees creates an abiding and beautiful mutual relationship. We offer two short-term rentals here, a cottage and a four-season yurt. We love to welcome visitors to put daily life down and re-set, restore, explore and have fun!
