We are a trio of warm & friendly artists/musicians living in an amazing space, waiting for the next adventure. This large private room with a queen sized bed is yours for private occupancy.
The house is a beautiful 3-level 4square built in 1916 with all hardwood floors & lots of natural light throughout. I bought the house in 2008 and it is the best place I have ever lived. I am 35 years old and have a small flock of chickens in a coop in the backyard. I am an artist/musician who works as a graphic designer during the day from home or downtown depending on the day. I am polite and laid-back, a great host with experience traveling and hosting others through sites like h 0 s p i t a l i t y c l u b and c 0 u c h s u r f i n g. There are currently three of us living in the house. Joe, my good friend, is a 31 year old visual artist & DJ. joemillerwork d0t c0m. My girlfriend, Nicole is a 26 year old photographer & works as a designer during the day. The largest bedroom in the house (11' x 12') is open for your private occupancy. You will have full run of the house. I sometimes travel for extended periods of time for my job.
There is a window unit air conditioner in the room during the summer. In the winter, the house is heated by radiator heat. The bed is queen sized.
I have two cats (Dot & Dash) that are about 1 1/2 years old. Three chickens live in the backyard coop. Eggs are free and plentiful.
Amenities include wifi internet, free washer & dryer, dishwasher, off-street parking (1 space), & free fresh eggs daily. 1 1/2 bathrooms. A old-fashioned clawfoot tub with shower. Pets are welcome. There is a nice sized public park 1 block away with a community swimming pool.
Community Areas are a large living room, dining room, kitchen & pantry on the main floor, A basement music & art studio, & a large fenced in garden & backyard with a fire pit.
Interaction with Guests
I prefer longer bookings. Most of our best experiences have been with guests that stay for a couple months. We can interact as much as you'd like. We are a friendly group, but respect an independent guest.
The neighborhood is west of Logan Square and is largely made up of Puerto Rican Families. My neighbors are amazing and are a big part of why it's so great living here. There are a few good Latino restaurants nearby, a liquor store & a small Latino grocery store.
Local public transportation include Metra (closest stop is Milwaukee West Line: Cicero/Grand) and buses (Grand Avenue bus goes downtown), though I use my bike to get everywhere without hassle. The main inconvenience of our location is distance from the subway.
No smoking cigarettes inside the house
Clean your own dishes & please don't leave clutter
Andrew was a very nice guy. Although he was very busy when we stayed, we felt he has time to help us if we need anything. Staying at Andrew's home gave us the opportunity to play guitar all day which was our purpose for staying at his home. Our room had a queen-sized bed and a TV. His house was just a 5-minute walk away from the bus station that goes to downtown. There are some restaurants and a grocery store which is a walking distance away from his home. The neighborhood was peaceful. It was a safe place. Andrew's two cats welcomed us when we arrived since there was no one at home. They were so funny and friendly.
I stayed at Andrew's house for 4 months and it made my time spent in Chicago so much more special. Andrew, Nicole, and Joe are generous and caring people who all made me feel right at home immediately, and were able to give me so much insight and info on the city. The house is spacious and accommodating, and guests get the largest room in the house! As an artist studying at the Art Institute for a semester, it was wonderful living with other creative, artistic individuals, as well as having space in the basement to make work and even play the drums. The neighborhood is a little ways out from downtown, and as such is quieter, greener, and not as crowded- I liked this very much. I always felt safe in the neighborhood, out on walks everyday, and at home. The only downside might be its distance from downtown, but the house is very close to a Metra station, which would take you right to the Loop if that was your commute (I stuck to CTA which made my commute a bit longer, but that was ok too). I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during my time in Chicago. Andrew, Nicole, and Joe were not only excellent roommates and hosts, but are now some of my best friends.
Super awesome stay. The cats are adorable. Andrew is great and super friendly. Between jamming in the basement and playing video games in our room, my girlfriend and I barely made it out to see the city! Great stay.
We stayed for a month in Andrew's house and had a really good time. Andrew and his housemates (his girlfriend Nicole and his friend Joe) were super nice and friendly too. They made us feel very confortable and gave us really good advices on the city.
The house is huge, with a very nice backgarden (with two chickens!) and and amazing music studio in the basement. The room is very spacious with a desk, a king size bed and a closet.
The neighbourhood was very safe and very well connected to anywhere in Chicago.
I would strongly recommend Andrew's house if you are looking for a fun experience.
Living with Andrew, Nicole, Joe and those feline sisters Dot and Dash was probably the second best decision I made in Chicago. The best decision being to go to Chicago in the first place. Their house felt like home the moment I walked in and stayed that way until the moment I left. Andrew and co are warm, caring and giving of their time, friendship and of their city. While it is a bit a way from the downtown core the buses run smoothly throughout the day and early evening and uber makes the journey from the nearest station an easy late night ride. There are plenty of amenities near by and I will, and do, miss it and them all terribly.
Andrew and his roommates were great hosts. I got into Chicago late and they made dinner and invited me that first night! They gave me all sorts of recommendations so I would have things to do during my visit. Their two little cats - Dot and Dash are very friendly, and even got along well with my cat. My room was spacious and had everything I could want. You do have to share a bathroom, but somehow our schedules work out perfectly. They know lots of great people. The area is really nice, sort of suburban. There is a driveway in the back where I could park my car.
Any free spirited traveler wanting to visit Chicago should definitely put this place at the top of their list. Not only is the house beautiful and visually entertaining but Andrew is an amazing host and a great guy. He knows tons about the city and has maps for his guests that lists pertinent information about the neighborhood, such as markets, liquor stores and local transit info. And when in season, the garden produces a large variety of goodies. Also, the room is big, well decorated and able to accommodate many needs. Plus, there's tons of space and storage, even for a person like myself who is notorious for overpacking.
I stayed at the house (with my dog and car) for over a month while I was looking for a home in Chicago. Both Andrew and his housemate Joe are amazing guys that made my dog and me feel welcomed from the second we arrived. From day one I felt as if I was home and through the course of my stay, I grew to love these guys… and the kittens and the chickens and the neighbors!!! For the sake of keeping this brief, I'll throw out a few key words that pertain to both of these guy: genuine, trustworthy, caring, interested and interesting, thoughtful, respectful, fun and most of all creative. Yes, you will definitely be sharing a house with two artists!!! Also, everyone that they surround themselves with is just as amazing as they are. And I do intend on staying with them again… as well as continuing the friendships when I officially move to Chicago. Yeah, they're that good!!!
