The Space

We have two guest areas depending on your preference. The main first floor guestroom has a twin loft bed, with futon underneath for lounging, as well as a desk and closet. Guests have main access to the bathroom located across the hall. We also have a private lofted third floor space with twin bed, another private room that can accommodate an air mattress, and two comfy couches for extra guests, if needed.

Our house was designed as part of a green housing initiative, and was awarded Platinum LEED certification. With it's efficient design, you will be comfortable both summer and winter, with radiant floor heating, ventilation, and lots of natural light.

Guest Access

Cable TV, wireless internet, street parking, laundry, kitchen, and a treadmill are available for use. There is plenty of outdoor space to stretch your toes, with a screened porch, and backyard deck overlooking our garden. Towels, sheets, coffee/tea are provided. Also, we do have an indoor cat, and a dog that comes with us to work everyday.

Interaction with Guests

My husband and I own a bicycle shop/cafe just 3 miles away, in the Westcott neighborhood -- we work a lot, and you will practically have the house to yourself.

The Neighborhood

Located in Syracuse's Salt District, along the Centro bus line, our house is just half a mile's walk from the heart of Armory Square and SU's Warehouse, about 2 miles from Syracuse University main campus and hospitals, and one mile from historic Tipperary Hill. You will find many galleries, cafes, shops, bars, and nightlife, just minutes away.

Getting around

As part of staying with us, we have several bicycles that are free for you to use to explore the city (lock/lights/helmet included). There are also several Centro bus stops close by depending on your destination, though we prefer to walk or bike. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to Armory, and 25-30 minutes to the University (half that if you bike). We are about a $20 taxi ride from the Regional Transportation Center, and about $30 from the airport.

Check In
  • Steve and Sara are awesome hosts! They have a beautiful house, that is so creatively decorated. I got to hang out with them one of the evenings I stayed there and I felt right at home. They have great suggestions for places to check out for beer and food, too.
Their pets are really great and Fats the cat was adorable.

I will definitely try to stay with them the next time I am in town!

  • Staying with Sara and Steve in their "green home" was a sheer delight. We immediately found them friendly and charming. Their energy and lifestyle aligned with our own, and we had great visits, though not enough, due to each of our busy schedules. Their home, though starkly modern on the exterior, was just lovely and comfortable on the inside -- warm natural colors, open floor design, nicely decorated with a diversity of interesting items. Our room and private bath (on the ground floor) was cozy and pleasant. The bed was comfy too and we slept well. We enjoyed fresh eggs (from their friendly hens) several mornings before heading out for the day. We did not rent a car (except the last day to journey to North Syracuse to visit my husband's childhood home, elementary school, etc). We were able to walk to downtown Syracuse and explore sites, visit interesting places, eat at fantastic restaurants (some recommended by Steve) and return home on foot late evenings without a worry. Altogether, we had a wonderful stay in the green home, and thoroughly enjoyed Steve and Sara (and their amusing cat & dog). They are a dear, engaging, generous, and helpful couple and just GREAT hosts!

  • Sara and Steve were amazing. They were willing to help me with everything I needed and had great recommendations for things to do in Syracuse. The house was great and had everything I needed. Their dog and cat were super friendly and fun. They own a really unique cafe/bike shop that I enjoyed. I definitely recommend (email hidden) home and I plan to stay there again in the future.

  • Sara and Steve might be the nicest people we've met so far through Air BnB. Their house is pretty amazing, too. But we especially enjoyed getting to know their pets, Fats the cat and Musa the Shiba Inu. Even though they both work long hours at their bike shop/cafe, Steve and Sara were happy to chat with us each night and we really felt like they enjoyed having guests in their home.

Without a car, we found their neighbourhood a little far from things, but we had decent enough weather that a 15 minute walk downtown wasn't too bad. Steve and Sara offered us bikes, which might have been a good idea in hindsight.

The room was cozy and the futon very comfortable, and having our own bathroom was also great. The house itself is beautiful and unique. It and the one next to it won an architectural design award and they really stand out in the neighbourhood.

Overall, we'd love to come back and stay with Steve and Sara again. Next time, we'll try the bikes!

  • Considering it was my first time booking on AirBnB I wasn't so sure what to expect, but staying at Sara and Steve's Green Home was better than anything I could have asked for. I stayed on the bottom floor which had a loft bed and access to a private bathroom, and it was the perfect balance between private space and mutual space in the kitchen and living rooms (although we were never really there at the same time). It was SO nice to stay in a place that felt like home, play with the family pets (including a lovable cat and dog), pick sunflowers and seeds from the garden, and even cook up eggs that were laid from the chickens in the back yard! On my last day Sara and Steve took me on a bike ride around the city, and we capped it off with a stop by a local brewery that offered free samples. They truly take pride in their city and in their home, and it shows. If all my experiences are like this, I'm NEVER going back to hotels. Thanks guys for the wonderful hospitality!

  • I didn't really see Sara and Steve when I was there, but their place is clean, modern, lovely and comfortable. An excellent value in Syracuse.

  • Had such a wonderful stay with Sara, Steve, and their adorable pets. They were so friendly and hospitable (pets included). They made us feel right at home. They were even kind enough to lend us their bikes to get around town, complete with helmets, locks, and recommended routes. We also enjoyed some netflix in their cool and cozy basement. They were even nice enough to offer my sister and I a ride to get some food on a rainy night, and a ride back to the University on our last day. Not to mention that they live in such a beautiful, unique home. They made our stay one of a kind. I would definitely recommend them to anyone staying in the area, and would gladly come back on future trips. These guys are great.
