About This Listing

The Cottage is a charming Cape Cod-style home on Martha's Vineyard and has two B&B rooms available for single or double occupancy for minimum 2-night stay. Located between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven it is right on the main bus route and bike path connecting you to the ferry or the two town centers. The quiet neighborhood and completely private beautiful cottage garden offer a chance to relax in the hammock after a day of sight-seeing and the large deck is perfect for a glass of wine before going off to dinner or just hanging out, whether for breakfast or during the day and evening. It is minutes away from Sengekontacket Pond where you can launch your kayaks! It is a 15 minute bike ride to State Beach and Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and the State Forest are easily reachable along the beautiful bike path between my house and the towns, The main bus line runs right past my street! By late June, the gardens are up and blooming -- in 2012, a new butterfly bed has been added! The garden is designed as a haven for a variety of birds (including hummingbirds!) which you can enjoy watching from the deck or hammock. Each year, new additions are made to enhance its tranquillity and beauty. Fresh herbs are grown and used in breakfast dishes. Breakfast with guests is always a treat as interesting conversation spontaneously arises!
Wifi throughout the Cottage is available. Parking is readily available at my home.

Interaction with Guests
Breakfast is usually a time for guests to visit together while I serve! Guests are welcomed to visit but I do try to leave you to as much privacy as possible.
Public transportation is an excellent way to get all over the island. From the end of my street, you can grab Line #1 to Edgartown or to Vineyard Haven and from either place, transfer to buses to other destinations. There are numerous bike shops where you can rent by the day or longer and of course, you can also do a car rental or bring your car if you prefer. I am about 15 minutes from the airport via taxi; public transportation is available with a transfer in Edgartown to Line #1.
Guests must be 22 or older. No excessive drinking is allowed and no smoking.
Please note the following:
We do try to practice environmentally positive habits. We hope it will not inconvenience you if we ask you to limit your showers to 10 minutes. We understand that it might be necessary to take even two showers a day after beach and outdoor activities and want you to be as comfortable as possible. Thanks for helping us in this endeavor! And please! try the outdoor shower -- fully enclosed with hot/cold water.
No food or drinks (except of course, water!) are allowed in the bedrooms. Please feel free to snack outside on the deck or at the kitchen table.
We ask that you put personal things away when you are out and to please hang wet towels and clothing in the bathrooms or downstairs in the dehumidified basement -- great for quick drying of wet clothes and towels! -- to reduce mold and mildew during the summer season.

Nancy was an excellent host. Her home accurately described, she was warm and welcoming, the outside shower was perfect and the grounds are lovely. The house was always quite and being one to sleep early this was a nice bonus.
We stayed with Nancy Rose for a wedding in Edgartown and it couldn't have been more perfect! From the picturesque garden to the delicious Italian coffee - Nancy definitely makes you feel welcome and comfortable in her lovely home. This was my first experience with airbnb when the owner was present, and Nancy was a delight to stay with!
The upstairs bedroom was roomy and very clean with two single beds. The home in general was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was provided by Nancy which was good. Nancy had suggested that we use the outside shower which may suit some however, as it was cool and the shower was clearly visible from the upstairs rooms, this did not suit us particularly. The area was quiet as it is out of town with no restaurants etc within walking distance but the bus was only a hundred or so metres away. Nancy keeps very early hours so,as a group of four,we felt a little restricted in the evening..
Hi Margaret. I'm so sorry that you all did not enjoy your stay at the Cottage. Certainly, people are welcomed to shower indoors and most hosts, because these are home stays and not professional settings, do ask the courtesy of quiet conversation and perhaps, not showering in a shared bath which is close to other folks (in this case me!). People are free to come and go as they please at all hours and certainly, people have enjoyed the deck until late in the evening, visiting and having a glass of wine or beer as other groups have done. With the great apps available today, prospective guests can see exactly where my location is and certainly with the availability of hosts on the island (this year 326!) there are many choices, some closer to town. As you noted, restaurants are within 10 minutes by bus in Edgartown and a few minutes longer to Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven. For some folks, taking an entire house, also an option, might work better for them. Again, my apologies for your unease and hope that you have more positive experiences with other airbnb stays! All best wishes.
Nancy Rose has a lovely home. We felt welcome and enjoyed our stay very much. Especially loved showering in the outdoors! Wish we had more time to enjoy the outdoor living space. The location was perfect for our needs - we explored all corners of the vineyard.
Nancy is very knowledgeable of the island and had plenty of recommendations, and was also very accommodating and helpful.
