The Cottage is a charming Cape Cod-style home on Martha's Vineyard and has two B&B rooms available for single or double occupancy for minimum 2-night stay. Located between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven it is right on the main bus route and bike path connecting you to the ferry or the two town centers. The quiet neighborhood and completely private beautiful cottage garden offer a chance to relax in the hammock after a day of sight-seeing and the large deck is perfect for a glass of wine before going off to dinner or just hanging out, whether for breakfast or during the day and evening. It is minutes away from Sengekontacket Pond where you can launch your kayaks! It is a 15 minute bike ride to State Beach and Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and the State Forest are easily reachable along the beautiful bike path between my house and the towns, The main bus line runs right past my street! By late June, the gardens are up and blooming -- in 2012, a new butterfly bed has been added! The garden is designed as a haven for a variety of birds (including hummingbirds!) which you can enjoy watching from the deck or hammock. Each year, new additions are made to enhance its tranquillity and beauty. Fresh herbs are grown and used in breakfast dishes. Breakfast with guests is always a treat as interesting conversation spontaneously arises!
Wifi throughout the Cottage is available. Parking is readily available at my home.
Accommodations include TWO SUNNY ROOMS, a ground floor bed/bath with a queen-size bed ($110.00/night). The downstairs bed/bath have been refurbished and updated for guests! Maximum number of guests downstairs is two. The UPSTAIRS TWIN ROOM will accommodate a third person. The spacious upstairs room/twin beds/shared bath ($95.00/night) has a sunny bathroom which is lightly shared with me. THE COTTAGE IS PERFECTLY MAINTAINED with daily cleaning and beds prepared at each change-over with freshly ironed sheets. A FULL BREAKFAST is included each morning which includes a variety of fruit, juice, homemade breads, specially prepared eggs if desired, and tea/coffee. WIRELESS INTERNET AND AMPLE PARKING ARE INCLUDED. And, don't forget to try the fully-enclosed hot/cold water outdoor shower, a Vineyard tradition! It features hot and cold water and is fully stocked for your convenience with body washes and shampoo.
A FEW NOTES
Check-in: from 2:00 p.m.
Check-out: 10.30 a.m.
Please note that the kitchen is not opened for cooking but certainly, you can leave drinks or snacks in the 'fridge!
Please note that you must be 22 years or older to book. Beginning in 2013, I'm unable to host children under 14 years of age. I'm sorry but I am unable to host guests' dogs. I have two already in my home. Two night stay is requested.
THE COTTAGE WILL REMAIN OPEN THROUGH SEPTEMBER 10, 2013. IT WILL CLOSE FOR THE SEASON AFTER THIS DATE.
AND, I HOST IN VENICE, ITALY AS WELL!
The Cottage will close September 10, 2014 this year but come to visit me in Venice, Italy. My beautiful apartment has a comfortable twin room and a lightly shared wonderful newly renovated bathroom available from October 1, 2012. It is centrally located in the heart of the city close to all services and on the beautiful Fondamenta San Felice, close to the spectacular areas of the Miseracordia, Rialto, Ghetto and public transportation -- all within comfortable walking distance. Breakfast is included as at the Cottage (allowing of course, for an Italian twist!). Please visit the listing, "Spectacular Affordable Venice!" for further details and reviews.
Guests are welcomed to use the deck, garden and sitting room during their visit.
Breakfast is usually a time for guests to visit together while I serve! Guests are welcomed to visit but I do try to leave you to as much privacy as possible.
Thanks to Nan, we had a great stay at Martha's Vineyward. The location was good, close to both Edgartown and Oak Bluffs on a bike, and the accommodations were clean and cozy. The breakfasts were a great way to start the morning, and we felt welcome and comfortable in the home.
Nancy was a wonderful hostess. She made us feel very welcome. Bedroom was very spacious and comfortable. We were able to enjoy drinking wine on the large terrace overlooking beautiful and tranquil garden in the back both nights. Great to meet an authentic MV resident and get to experience all of the beauty the island has to offer. Will definitely not wait another 15 years to visit again. This first experience on Airbnb was great! Thanks, Nancy!
My first experience with airbnb could not have been more pleasant! Nancy Rose was an amazing host- friendly, gracious, and extremely helpful. She went out of her way to accommodate me- referring me to a bike shop, calling me a taxi to the airport, she even ironed my clothes when I was running late! The cottage was very peaceful and relaxing. I especially enjoyed my time reading on the deck, and napping in the hammock. I have no immediate plans to revisit the Vineyard, but if I did I wouldn't hesitate to book again with Nancy Rose.
We both enjoyed our stay at Nancy Rose's during our week long stay this past August 2013.
During our week there we found all to be more convenient than would have thought; bicycling from the ferry was a nice and easy ride by the ocean, access to transit and town we also very easy.
The house was beautiful, clean and inviting. The backyard was a little paradise.
We have great memories from Nancy Rose's and would love to have the chance to visit again.

Wonderful host family! Our stay coincided with a visit by Nancy's daughter and they are both lovely and fun. Within a day, we felt more like friends than customers. Our room was very comfortable, the breakfasts were outstanding and we loved the outdoor shower. The setting is beautiful and tranquil, and the location is convenient to MV's bus service and the bike path, so commuting was easy. We look forward to returning!
Nancy is a very vivacious and engaging hostess! Her house/property is simply stunning with each clean sun-filled room welcoming you to relax. We were a bit apprehensive about the outdoor shower in the beginning but were immediate converts after our first experience! It was so refreshing; and relaxing in her beautiful garden as your hair dries afterwards is an experience that is second to none! We would love to come back and just spend the day reading/relaxing in her garden. Breakfast was always delicious (freshly cut in-season fruit, homemade banana bread, freshly baked blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs, freshly brewed coffee/tea, juice) and timely served at 8:30am.
We really loved our time at here and we are hoping to come back soon for a whole week, rather than just 2 nights! Nancy, you'll be hearing from us in the near future! Thanks again for everything!
Note 1: Other amenities to note include bath towels, beach towels, shampoo/conditioner/soap
Note 2: To ensure a pleasant stay you should revisit the reasonable house rules before your stay (i.e. no wet items or food inside the house, breakfast at 8:30am, etc).
Notes from our experience:
- Menemsha: Grab a lobster roll at The Galley, fried clams at The Bite, and watch a picturesque sunset on the beach (Note: Arrive an hour and 30 minutes before sunset to get a parking spot and find a spot down on the right side of the beach where it is less crowded)
- Acquinnah: AMAZING beach to take long strolls on (Note: Don't go too far to the right side of the beach unless sunbathing in the buff is your thing) and making sandcastles.
- Chapiquiddick: Unique experience to swim with non-stinging jellyfish (note: there are thousands!!) but beware of the biting flies on the beach
- Best casual dining experience: Go to the Net Result for a lobster bake which includes 1 1/4 lb lobster, 1lb clams, and 1lb of mussels. When we went (end of August 2012) it was $19.50 for all of that (Note: The fish and chips there are also the BEST!!) You can eat there at the outside picnic tables. You may want to go up the street to The Black Dog Bakery for some fresh rolls to go with the lobster bake and a dessert!
Nancy's lovely home is quiet, cozy, and conveniently located off the Vineyard Haven Road, making South Beach, the triangle, and Edgartown easily accessible. It is on a quiet (paved) road a short distance from a bus stop, so visitors arriving without a vehicle should seriously consider this affordable option.
Nancy's home is tidy and spotless, and it has a lovely deck and garden complete with an inviting hammock under the trees. My niece, Sarah, and I enjoyed her wonderful breakfasts. They are a culinary treat and offer a wonderful opportunity for lively, thought proviking conversation with the hostess and her other guests. It's a great way to begin each fun-filled day on the Vineyard.
Nancy's home is a great alternative for visitors who seek affordable, comfortable accommodations that offer a taste of Vineyard life that's simply not available in a hotel or other commercial establishment.
Waking up from a nice quiet sleep to a lovely breakfast of homemade breads, freshly sliced fruit (peaches, strawberries, mango, blueberries), warm imported teas, etc. is the epitome of Bed and Breakfast comfort. Nancy is petite, warm, down to earth and connected enough to speak on local issues, relationship harmonies, and global politics. The residence is even better than pictured. She has two pups and as a non-pet owner, they were sensible enough to respect this and go about their business. Not the type of dogs to hop on you or be unduly familiar. The bus line is great to use during the day, but we mostly cabbed it in the evening to get to all the attractions. We came and went as we pleased and Nancy was more than accomodating. I certainly reccomend!
I found Nancy's home to be a wonderful retreat on Martha's Vineyard. It is on a quiet street which is easily accessible. The room that my friend and I stayed in was exactly as described, very clean and comfortable.
Nancy is a vibrant and friendly hostess, she gave great advice to which beaches to visit and places to eat. We really enjoyed chatting over the big breakfast that she cooked each day.
I really look forward to visiting Martha's Vineyard and Nancy again!
