It is minutes away from Sengekontacket Pond where you can launch your kayaks! It is a 15 minute bike ride to State Beach and Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and the State Forest are easily reachable along the beautiful bike path between my house and the towns, The main bus line runs right past my street! By late June, the gardens are up and blooming -- in 2012, a new butterfly bed has been added! The garden is designed as a haven for a variety of birds (including hummingbirds!) which you can enjoy watching from the deck or hammock. Each year, new additions are made to enhance its tranquillity and beauty. Fresh herbs are grown and used in breakfast dishes. Breakfast with guests is always a treat as interesting conversation spontaneously arises!

Interaction with Guests
Breakfast is usually a time for guests to visit together while I serve! Guests are welcomed to visit but I do try to leave you to as much privacy as possible.
Public transportation is an excellent way to get all over the island. From the end of my street, you can grab Line #1 to Edgartown or to Vineyard Haven and from either place, transfer to buses to other destinations. There are numerous bike shops where you can rent by the day or longer and of course, you can also do a car rental or bring your car if you prefer. I am about 15 minutes from the airport via taxi; public transportation is available with a transfer in Edgartown to Line #1.
Guests must be 22 or older. No excessive drinking is allowed and no smoking.
Please note the following:
We do try to practice environmentally positive habits. We hope it will not inconvenience you if we ask you to limit your showers to 10 minutes. We understand that it might be necessary to take even two showers a day after beach and outdoor activities and want you to be as comfortable as possible. Thanks for helping us in this endeavor! And please! try the outdoor shower -- fully enclosed with hot/cold water.
No food or drinks (except of course, water!) are allowed in the bedrooms. Please feel free to snack outside on the deck or at the kitchen table.
We ask that you put personal things away when you are out and to please hang wet towels and clothing in the bathrooms or downstairs in the dehumidified basement -- great for quick drying of wet clothes and towels! -- to reduce mold and mildew during the summer season.
Strict cancellation policy
Nancy was a very cordial and welcoming host. Her house rules are designed to ensure clean living conditions. The beds were comfortable and the sheets fresh. If you don't mind not having AC, the fans do a pretty nice job, since the nights are cooler. Nancy prefers that guests use the outdoor shower. If you're taken aback by the thought, be prepared for an enjoyable experience. Breakfast was cheerful and provided an opportunity to comingle with other guests. The garden is a delight - (website hidden) on her plants. The cottage is charming and very conveniently access the transport system. Is it worth your money? You bet!
I was quite ill during my stay, so was not able to enjoy the experience as usual. The space was clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable. Nancy was an attentive host.
My teenaged daughter and I had a truly wonderful experience at Nancy's home. She made us feel immediately welcome and the house is just as it is described and pictured online. She made sure we had everything we needed. She also set a beautiful breakfast table each morning - totally unexpected - with yummy treats to start the day. The garden is peaceful and relaxing. The outdoor shower room is quite large and a warm, outdoor splash is a super way to freshen up after a day at the beach. The house is located right near the island bus stop as well as the walking/cycling paths which everyone uses. There were no unpleasant surprises. Our stay was a perfect, casual Martha's Vineyard experience. Just super.
Nancy made us feel welcomed with a nice tour of her home and allowing us to use all amenities, our personal favorite being the outdoor shower! She made breakfast each morning which kept us full for exploring the island. The place was just as described and the neighborhood was right on the bus line which made exploring without a car convenient. She even provided us beach towels. We would happily stay again!
Nancy is a welcoming host and her listing is definitely as described. The room was clean and bright with plenty of room to unpack. Her large garden deck and outdoor shower are both a bonus (something that you definitely won't get at a hotel). Additionally, it was nice to start the day with fresh fruit, coffee, homemade muffins, and interesting/fun conversations with Nancy and the other guests.
Vacation turns to nightmare
I planned to have a dream vacation in Martha's Vineyard, it however turns into a nightmare. I reserved 3 nights stay at Nancy's little house. Then my plan changed. I requested to cancel the third night a week earlier. Nancy did not want to give me the refund. To avoid the bad feeling even before the vacation, I said I can still pay her 3 days even I only stay 2. The description says the room sleeps 3. However, she asks me to pay more, an additional fee suddenly appears. Room is clean, however too much trouble.
Fei, you posted this review after a series of messages, clarifying your stay and because you are unhappy with the fact that you were in error with your dates, with the fact that you did not wish to comply with cancellation policies and terms of the contractual agreement set up between host/guest, you have taken the unfortunate route of attempting to deride what in fact, was a pleasant, friendly and warm visit at my home with me and with other guests. I'm sure your lovely son and daughter would agree. The morning of the second day, at breakfast, we discussed whether you had decided to stay or not as you were uncertain. Because the weather was not optimum, you elected to leave and go on to New Hampshire. Indeed, my room does, at special request in advance, hold a third guest but as clearly stipulated on my page, to cover set-up of the third bed, linens, towels, utilities and breakfast, there is an additional reasonable charge. I am as generous as I can be with my pricing and my availability to my guests. As an experienced host, I am aware that some guests wish to have resolutions that go against contractual agreements. Therefore, I am absolutely transparent on my webpage and in my communication before a guest's arrival. This is well documented on our message page. Certainly, as a professional engineer working for a large corporation, Ford, you should understand that this visit was not a nightmare; you just have determined that you should be able to the financial arrangement which you want, but which is not contracted. All best wishes to you and your lovely children.
My first stay at an Airbnb was incredibly welcoming thanks to Nancy Rose. Her home is charming and easy to navigate from along the bus roue. I would recommend this spot to anyone who is looking for a little relaxation and slice of home on the island.

Our home on the Vineyard is a special place for guests who wish to enjoy the beauty and vitality of this incredible island. Instead of just 'the playground for the rich and famous," the Vineyard is a microcosm of America -- its strengths and weaknesses. Come and be a part of it! Until 2011, I hosted international students through my project.
