Ive been renting this apartment for 6 months now (since before the Olympics) and its important to point a few things out. The apartment is one massive open plan loft space. Its on the third floor of an old warehouse with no lift/elevator and its located in the heart one of London's coolest most buzzing neighbourhoods on fashionable Curtain Road, next to famous Hoxton Square.

My experience shows that if you are coming to London to work in PR, digital stuff, film, TV, music, fashion etc - and you're going to be out working, socialising with colleagues and friends, enjoying the city and want a central, cool, spacious base with everything for cosmopolitan living on your doorstep: you will LOVE this place.

If you are after somewhere with a five star hotel/Four Seasons/Hilton type vibe, in a quiet/residential location, white linnen etc - then you are better off looking for something else.

I live full time in the place, but I travel a lot - so this is my home you are staying in, its got my stuff in it. Im more than happy to clear a space for your stuff. Ill normally do this as a matter of course for anyone staying more than two weeks.

There is no lift/elevator, but it's only three flights (which i climb a few times a day). Im happy to arrange help for luggage for people who need it on check in/out (im flexible on times and dates)

Curtain Rd is one of the most buzzing locations in London offering the best night clubs, bars restaurants, galeries, boutique shops etc. Its' not quiet. Friday and Saturday nights are noisy, its a party place. If you want to be near the action, its the price you pay. 90% of my guests never mention this: probably because they are out there enjoying what the area has to offer. I provide ear plugs for those who want a quiet night ;-). But lets be frank, why stay in my apartment, if you are planning on a quiet Saturday night in. !!

The apartment is an old east end London warehouse, and as such its 100+ years old. The walls are exposed brick, the toilet is old School (but has since been replaced and is shiny new).

Converted warehouse apartment which is located in the heart of bustling Shoreditch, just minutes walk from trendy Hoxton Square, Great transport links and the Square Mile/City. Direct link to Soho/West End (door to door in 25 mins)

LOCAL AMENITIES:
There is every type of cuisine you can imagine from Sushi to Shanghai street food is right on your doorstep. The apartment is also in the heart of Shoreditch surrounded by some of the coolest bars and clubs in London. Private Members Club with roof top swimming pool: Shoreditch House is 5 mins walk. Cow Shed where ou can get a sweedish massage and bike wax (!!) only 5 mins walk and to keep fit or for a Spa visit Virgin Active Classic Broadgate only 5 mins walk.

TRANSPORT:
Just 3 minutes walk from Liverpool St and Old St Underground, five minutes walk to Overground, DLR and Olympic links, only two tube stops to KingsX and Euston and 20 minutes in a taxi to London City Airport, 45 mins to Gatwick and Standatsead and 1hour to Heathrow.

Exposed brick, original exposed double height beams, impeccable decoration, big flat screen TV, surround sound, good Wifi, Apple Airport system etc. King size bed and cotton sheets. One massive top floor, double height space. Ideal for single or couple. Not shared, all yours.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE:
House manual includes everything you need to know about house and local area (as well as tips on where to eat and where to go). Added to that there's Sky+ and you can even have your unlimited pick of over 100,000 movies, streamed live to the TV via LoveFilm (but who wants to stay in when you have one of the worlds best cities on your doorstep)

The flat even comes complete with its own disco ball and lighting rig.

  • Location fab, flat is great, host is a lovely guy - overall opinion: GREAT!

    Our overall experience at Andy's place was an incredibly pleasant one. After a steep but manageable climb to the third floor, you encounter a very warm and welcoming flat - arriving on a cold day in late November, the warmth of the flat was a big plus point - as was the warmth of Andy our host who met us at the flat to hand over the keys. Andy was great, it was a pleasure to meet him - he introduced us to the flat, chatted about the area and then left us to it which was perfect.

    The living areas were great, very spacious with good interior decor, furniture and crisp clean bedding. The kitchen is reasonably well equipped with a decent amount of fridge space for a weekend stay.

    The only real downside of this flat for us was the bathroom - the good points are that there was a good supply of clean towels and the shower was hot and worked well. The downside was that the bottom of the toilet bowl is very stained (n.b. the rest of the toilet was very clean). Andy did explain that the toilet has always had this staining which made us feel better about the fact that it was an old problem as opposed to a hygiene issue - but this doesn't make it easier to like it!

    I must point out that this would not put us off using this flat again....we would definitely stay here again...but we thought it was best to note it, in an ideal scenario the toilet could do with replacing.

    More good stuff...The flat is incredibly pleasing on the eye and is great to spend time in (comfy bed, big dining table, good sofas and Sky TV plus sound system for iPods etc)...we really did enjoy staying there an awful lot.

    The area - SHOREDITCH (Old Street tube in very easy reach - 5 to 10 minutes walk) - is a really interesting area of London, it's vibrant with shops, cafes and bars as well as some great old London pubs that are equally as lovely. We ate well, drank well and had an amazing time...dragging ourselves away from Shoreditch to other areas of London was hard to do! We love it and will be returning again very soon. Try 'Tramshed', 'Pitfield' and 'The Book Club' - all amazing for food and drinks. Pitfield is a great shop too!

    Would we stay at Andy's place again - definitely. No question. We loved it...it just needs a little bit more TLC to turn it from absolutely fab to AMAZING.

  • I had a colleague staying here for a business trip and Andy was extremely helpful, he was great with organising check in and out and really helped us out by allowing him to stay an extra night at very short notice, even cancelling his own plans to help! Here's what the colleague who was staying had to say:

    Andy's apartment is really great, lots of space and really well positioned. There was everything you'd need in the apartment.You can get to the tube in 5 mins walk and there's tons of bars and restaurants nearby. I had a great stay and would definitely stay here again next time I'm in London.

  • This is the second time I stay at Andy’s spacious and charming apartment. It has a truly magic atmosphere and I like the open plan, in particular being able to cook and stay connected with my guests. The kitchen is well equipped for serious cooking.

    It is not a five star luxury apartment, but I go for the charm, space and location any time. The neighbourhood is just full of bars and restaurants, and Liverpool street station is less than ten minutes walk away.

    Curtain Rd. is quite busy, and not surprisingly there is a fair amount of street noise, in particular in the early morning hours, so if you are not a heavy sleeper, you may want to bring some earplugs.

    All in all a satisfactory experience and I shall probably be back another time.

  • Although I'm a new Airbnb member, I've rented houses over the past 20 years all over the US, Caribbean islands, France, Italy, Spain, Greece and now for the first time in London. Unfortunately, this was my first unpleasant experience.

    I’m a busy executive who came to London for 3 weeks to pursue a personal passion and attend a summer Design Course at St Martin’s Arts College. I’ve decided to rent a “flat” not far from school and was recommended by a friend to use Airbnb. I came across Andy’s apartment and it looked very cool and decided to live in Shoreditch and explore this neighborhood.

    The good facts:
    - Shoreditch is a very vibrant neighborhood, with many galleries, bars and restaurants
    - Andy’s apartment is in a very central location with easy access
    - The apartment is well-equipped with a lot of light and spacious (but clearly much smaller than 170sqm)
    - I received the apt from the cleaner and it was clean
    - Andy put together an extensive and very helpful apt manual

    The not-so- good facts:
    - The apt is very noisy during the day (buses, street noise) and even worse during the night until 3am and even 4am from bar crowds. Andy recommends sleeping with earplugs, and you sure need them!
    - The shower is very small and very tight.
    - The toilet is very old and unpleasant to use.
    - Andy didn’t leave any available closet space, not even a hook, so used my suitcase on the floor.
    - Refrigerator was left full of old food, fruits and unclean.
    - No elevator, 3 steep floors; carrying my 3-week heavy luggage in 2 rounds wasn’t fun.

    The worst:
    - I noticed 2 mouse/rat traps around the apt and unfortunately we encountered a rodent inside the apartment on the 6th day – very unpleasant!
    - I immediately informed Andy and after extensive email communications and his very apologetic response we agreed to leave the apt the following day. Although my understanding was that Andy will refund me the 2 weeks that I would not use the apt, Andy has refused and didn’t even bother to respond to my final offer to split 50-50 the remaining 2-week fairly (yet posted his apt again immediately). I ended-up renting a studio in an apt hotel near my school (unfortunately paying again for the 2 weeks during the Olympics).

    Lastly, unexpected things happen in life including when you rent an apt from strangers. I was very disappointed by how this ended up with Andy. I’m writing this review 10 days after this incident took place, and it is important for me to be fair and factual.
    -- Make your own judgment, and enjoy London!!!

  • I stayed at Andy's flat for 8 nights in May and would highly reccommend it. Andy was a great host (he even carried my VERY heavy suitcase up the stairs) and his flat is just as it seems from the site, including a really helpful guide, loads of space and all amenities.

    The neighborhood is great - lots of stuff to do, see, eat, drink and easily accessible by tube and bus.

    I'd definitely stay here again.

  • At the last minute, I needed to find a great place to stay for one of the co-founders of Airbnb and I came across this amazing apartment. Andy very quickly stepped forward to make additional arrangements to vacate his place earlier than planned.

    The apartment is in a perfect location, Andy is a genuinely great guy to meet with and talk to and the feedback from one of the Airbnb founders was fantastic.

    I would absolutely book this place again and would absolutely encourage others to spend time here.

  • This flat is really great! Pros: Location-Shoreditch is as Andy says, very happening. Really cool loft that is well appointed. Cons: As Andy says, weekend party noise is loud, but the construction is much louder! During our stay there was construction on the unit underneath and a big building going up 50 feet down the street...coupled with the unseasonable heat wave requiring open windows and you've got a very loud sleeping situation. This being said, NONE of this is Andy's fault, sort of a perfect storm of hot and loud.

    Nearby restaurants are amazing, two tube stops within easy walking distance connect you to the whole city.

    If you're looking for a cool flat in a cool part of town, this is it.

  • I've stayed 15 days in Andrew's flat and I really enjoyed my stay. You have everything you need in the flat or in the close neighborhood , many nice restaurants & bars, nice atmosphere, easy access to public transportation (especially buses)...

    I would stay there again for sure

  • Andy's place and Andy himself were both fantastic and my partner and I would surely stay there again!

    Andy's place- is huge and awesome, plenty roomy for two people and a great place to chill out after a long day of exploring London (before hitting the nightlife). Yes being on the top floor meant a lot of stairs, we saw this as exercise! It can get noisy at night especially on weekends but that was to be expected given its area.

    The area- top notch. Bars, pubs, cafes, so many places to eat, short walk to Brick Lane... Great trendy area

    Andy- extremely accommodating and great guy, was always very responsive which made us feel at ease when checking in and out

    Overall a great experience which I would highly recommend

  • Andy was an incredible host. The apartment was amazing. It was clean, spacious, and in the best possible East London location. Lots of public transportation very close. I highly recommend this flat and I'll definitely be staying there again.
