BREEZE Treehouse, at The Appleton Retreat is located on 120 acres of private land, bordered by 1,300 acres of a protected nature conservancy. To the south is the Pettengill Stream a resource protected area and to the north a large secluded pond. BREEZE guests may reserve the wood fired cedar hot tub and the sauna, which are close by and private, at an additional charge. The Appleton Retreat is less than a 30 minute drive to Belfast, Rockport, Camden and Rockland, charming downeast seaside towns.

The space
Total privacy, alone in a tree, the ultimate getaway.
The 1st floor of BREEZE is over 20' high and the sleeping loft is approximately 40' off the ground. To gain access to BREEZE requires climbing three flights of stairs. Two are very easy and code compliant, the 3rd is a ships ladder - that is why dogs are Not Allowed. The sleeping loft is also accessed by a steep ships ladder.
BREEZE is NOT a safe environment for young children.
You will experience the uniqueness of being in a tree! Windowed walls overlook the treetops and a glimpse of the ridge to the south. There is a large deck for hanging out....
(CAUTION: In winds over 25 mph you may experience some movement and noise - not to worry!)
Although BREEZE appears to be a rustic structure, it has many amenities including: Air Conditioning, a full galley kitchen; a shower and traditional toilet, as well as good old electricity........ so you will not be roughing it.
Although there is no wi-fi at BREEZE you may tap into the wi-fi at Braeburn by getting in that proximity.
There is private parking at the treehouse.

Other things to note
PLEASE BEWARE: Due to safety concerns dogs are not allowed at Breeze - Dogs are welcomed at the other Retreats.

The pond.... OR IS IT A LAKE? There is a trail starting at Braeburn leading to Newbert Pond. It is approximately a 30 minute walk through a well defined forested trail on Nature Conservancy's 1,300 acre reserve.

To the East is the Pettengill Stream which The Appleton Retreat property borders. It is a huge 40 mile aquifer. The stream, albeit not very wide is navigable by kayak, which we provide. (In the draught of 2020 it was NOT navigable in the summer months.)

In wintertime cross country skiing is great.

The local towns of Hope, Union, Liberty, Freedom and Lincolnville are like taking a step back to the past. They are truly quaint with their little general stores and blink of the eye town centers. Of course you don't want to miss a visit to the coast and more well known towns of Belfast, Rockport, Camden and Rockland, with their rugged picturesque coastline and schooners plying the waters, just a 30-minute drive from The Appleton Retreat.

My wife Toby and I are retired. We relocated to Portland to be closer to our kids and live in a cool diversified City. Prior to "settling down", we sailed our boat WHIZZBANG to New Zealand and while there enjoyed a road trip staying with some great Airbnb hosts which ignited our interest in giving it a try ourselves. We were fortunate to luck into adopting an incredibly beautiful historic building at 141 Spring Street on the westside of Portland and became immersed in a challenging but rewarding renovation project. However it was not long after that we were itching for another project so, call it crazy, we divined a log cabin, requiring much tender love and care on 120 acres of pristine Maine land in a far away town called Appleton. The Portland Studio is a home away from home and offered to Airbnb guests. We hope fellow travellers will enjoy discovering Portland and love staying in our romantic Studio on the West Side, or venture out to The Appleton Retreat for the perfect Getaway.
