In the Kona Coffee Belt, this is an 8-acre working coffee farm with several dwellings. This one is a newly renovated stand-alone tatami room with private lanai, fridge, microwave, toaster and sink. We are tucked up a windy road above Kealakekua Bay and the Captain Cook Monument, near the best snorkeling/kayaking.

Covid-19 Notice: Due to the pandemic, guests will be requested to follow CDC and local guidelines. Self-service continental breakfast items are included.

The space
This is a place for nature lovers and people who are interested in getting to see the life of a tropical farm. Accommodations are simple and comfortable. Depending on what's being harvested, breakfast may include fresh farm fruits (e.g. papayas, oranges, avocados, jaboticaba), free-range farm eggs, and our own farm coffee. There are roosters crowing from all the hillsides in the early hours, noisy frogs, a talkative parrot, and in the wet season a fair number of (mostly avoidable) bugs. We love to sit around the imu (fire pit) at night and share stories. In short, it is a place full of life which appeals to more adventurous travelers who are accustomed to (or want to experience) country living and wilder places.

Where you’ll be

Captain Cook, Hawaii, United States

We are short drive or a nice 20-min walk from the center of Captain Cook, which has a great super market and restaurants (Local food, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, wrap sandwiches, pizza, a coffee shop), as well as a nice farmers' market on Sundays.

I'm a forestry researcher, based in Captain Cook, Hawaii.

Love Airbnb because it's more ecological and friendlier than hotels, and because it keeps some income in the grassroots economy.

I like to travel, but also like to be at home. Have lived in China, Burundi, Indonesia, France, and Peru and my home base is Captain Cook, Hawaii.

Like Asian foods more than Western (Mediterranean is great though!).

During your stay

We are around most of the time (probably working on the farm during the day) and happy to help with advice on what to do and how to do it. We want you to enjoy your stay and love the Big Island of Hawai'i as much as we do.
