Interaction with Guests
There are many things to do in the Amazons, if you plan to come with not a lot in mind or need advice, please let me know ahead of time... Glad to help you make the most out of your trip.
The House is located in the beautiful City of Iquitos. We are not in Downtown as transportation is very noisy due to the constant MOTOCARS running 24/7. Yet we are just minutes away from all that noise but in a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by the jungle, Within 8 min to Downtown and Iquitos Airport. You may find a lot of authentic Peruvian cuisine restaurants and bars within walking distance.
Iquitos is one of the few cities in the world that runs 99% on MOTOCARS (motorcycles transformed into a tricycle for carrying passengers). And the other 1% on local colectivos (bus). No need to rent a car as you will find it difficult to navigate with all the MOTOCARS.
Other Things to Note
Full bath room, with ample shower, always with hot water and a relaxing and excellent water pressure.
The house rules are general sense and therefore would be difficult to enumerate, respect for what is contracted and not wanting to abuse our good faith and that is what we take for nature, guests may not be accompanied by any do not be in the same condition (guest) otherwise only say that the rules would be logical coexistence.
Air conditioning is extra $ 5 USD per day
Xavier made us feel at home since we stepped in the house : "This is your house" he kept reminding us. It was great! BEAUTIFUL, huge house with an animal refuge center inside of it! There is always someone there 24/7. The walls have 6 meters high and he has a security system installed in the house. However, it is a safe neighborhood. My boyfriend and I were walking late at night at around 11 pm and we never felt unsafe. The wild rescued animals in his house are A PLUS and he will love to take you downstairs to meet his animals and pet the oscelote (tigrillo) while she's still a baby. It was such a pleasant stay. We had ham and cheese sandwich with juice , coffee and tea for breakfast served at whatever time you needed.
Now this place is if you don't mind taking moto car to go to plaza mayor and all or if you want to stay away from the noises from the city. The road in front of the house is not completely paved but it IS walkable. ( I walked on it with my flip flops with no problems). The area u have to walk from the door to the main road is 3 small blocks away (180 meters) . So it is doable. There is a plaza 1 block away from the main road which we went to on Mother days for community events. So there are things going on around the area just not as much as Plaza Mayor. The moto car from his house to plaza mayor ranged from 5 - 9 soles (cheap). The moto cars can get in the road in front of his house if you don't want to walk it.
It's quite 15 - 25 min motorcar drive to the plaza mayor so if you want to walk to all the stores, clubs around the plaza mayor maybe this place is not for your convenience. But you can still make it happen with motocars if you want to visit downtown yet also enjoy Xavier's beautiful and pleasant house with all the amazing animals and the beautiful infrastructure he built. That place is a sanctuary! TOTALLY recommend it. Plus Xavier is very pleasant to talk to and accommodating. He drove us to the airport on our departure date because it had been raining all night and morning. He was very attentive and helpful. We loved our stay!
Oh I almost forgot. We left our luggage for 3 days with him and it contained valuables (money) . Xavier put it in his closet and I was more than sure that my luggage and valuables were EXTREMELY safe jaja and they were! :)
My boyfriend loved the little tiger (oscillate) . I wish we could post pictures!
Wonderful stay with Xavier. He has an exquisitely designed home (be sure to take pictures for inspiration) that also serves as an animal sanctuary (there were 2 ocelots and 2 monkeys in residence when we visited, but these change depending on what animals need rehabilitating). Xavier made all aspects of the trip easy--he picked us up from the airport, helped us get settled in (providing fresh towels and toiletries), and had a laminated instruction sheet with very specific details about WiFi/TV usage/AC--which costs extra given high energy cost, but we did not need. If I were to return to Iquitos, I would gladly stay with Xavier!
(review by David, who occupied the other room that I booked)
It is seldom that I come across any place or anywhere that makes me stumble with great surprise and admiration; I was very fortunate to have just such an experience when I reached Xavier's "jungle oasis!" Xavier's home is a gem hidden in a back road a few minutes by moto taxi from the airport. Winding down a field path to arrive at Xavier's, I had my doubts, but then I was introduced to a gorgeous, architecturally equisite and spacious estate! On Xavier's property, there is a combination of natural habitat and modern features of convenience. Xavier's home serves both as a refuge for endangered wild life - at the time I stayed there, he had 2 jungle "Tigrillos" (leopards) a monkey and a type of jungle sloth - it was unbelievable - and a sanctuary for the master of the house and guests who are fortunate enough to find and stay in this slice of paradise. Beyond the incredible decor that the property show cases (hand made wooden pieces, tables, art, sculptures, pictures, etc), what was almost more impressive was the amazing hospitality that Xavier and his staff exhibited; this kind and humanitarian group were always present, gave me great suggestions and advice and spoiled me on tasty breakfasts in the morning; I felt "at home" if not better than at home and always safe and comfortable. As an Airbnb property owner and host myself, I have nothing but tremendous reverence, respect and admiration for Xavier and what he has done to share the good energy that he possesses for the benefit of others and the environment.
Xavier and Carina went out of their way to make us feel at home and comfortable, I cannot say enough good things about them, their home and accommodations. Xavier is very warm hearted and tender and will do everything he can to help. He has a beautiful home and it's nice to see he has an animal refuge too and lives in accordance with nature. Thank you for everything, Xavier! We really appreciate it.
We had a great stay with Xavier, the house is big, and the room is nice with tv, fridge and aircon. Xavier was very friendly and a good host who made us feel very welcome. The animals he takes care of are amazing!
The room is a 5 soles ride from the center, a little bit far but no problem really. And worth to mention that aircon is extra, and you probably want it. I would highly recommend to stay here.
