Welcome to my fully renovated bungalow, which is nestled beside the dunes and overlooking the peaceful Irish Sea.
The property benefits from Wifi, satellite TV and a landline telephone. There is an automated gate, hedge and fences surrounding the beautiful 3/4 acre lot.
There is a large sheltered deck off the conservatory and the beach is accessible through the dunes, just across the road. The house is a ten minute drive to both Arklow and Wicklow towns, with all they have to offer; pubs, restaurants, some fine dining and all your shopping needs.
The European Golf Club is just down the road, with a dozen more courses within a 20 minute drive.
If you enjoy outdoor pursuits then you will love the area; there is hiking, hill walking, horseback riding, and of course beach-combing in the area. Access to the beach is just across the road.
County Wicklow, the Garden of Ireland, is nestled on the east coast. Covering an area of 782 square miles, Wicklow has a dramatic landscape of rugged hinterland mountains sweeping down to a golden coastline of cliffs and sandy beaches. The unspoiled countryside in Wicklow has several world class golf courses, the most famous of which is Druids Glen Golf and Country Club - host to the Irish Open Championship from (phone number hidden). The rivers and lakes in County Wicklow provide excellent coarse fishing and game angling. Sea angling is available off the coast.
As the description suggests, we are in a secluded area, but only 5 - 10 minutes by car to either Arklow or Wicklow towns.
There is a great butcher/victualler in the Bridgewater shopping centre - Arklow town.
Ask us about the 'Castletimon Mile' and the Dunganstown Heritage trail located close by.
The only rail service is the Iaronrod Eirann commuter train to Arklow town.
Bus service is provided by Bus Eirann and Wexford Bus, but the stops are not within walking distance of our place.
Sorry, no smoking is allowed in the house, of course you have 3/4 of an acre to walk about as you puff. Also, sorry, no pets. We love animals but are concerned about our own kid's and future guest's allergies.
Please feel free to wander and picnic in the dunes, but close all open gates behind you and kindly leave only footprints. It is a protected wildlife habitat area. And take all your garbage with you, there is a bin for it in the garage.
Please use the screen in front of the fireplace at all times to prevent sparks from flying.
If you wish to leave the French doors off the conservatory open please use the latches provided to prevent them from swinging in the wind.
Kindly keep the gates closed at all times to prevent wandering livestock from visiting, our grass and hedges appear very succulent to them. Sheep, cattle and horses are often moved from field to field using our road. Horse drawn carts are also a common occurrence.
Please, no sitting on or hanging from the railings on the deck, while they are safe and secure, they may not stand up to much rough-housing.
Very welcoming hosts. Lovely house. Wonderful location. Great with communication and very helpful in every aspect.
Marvellous house, exactly as pictures describe. Right by the sea, but also a great place just to stay in by the fireplace and relax. Communication was great - would highly recommend. Thanks Jane and Michael!
Thank you perfect as always.
Great. Perfect. Fantastic.
From the moment we saw this house on Airbnb, we knew we wanted to stay there! We are both from Dublin adn wanted to go away for the long weekend, but not too far a drive, as we have a baby. I contacted Michael through the site and he was very, very prompt with replies. I noticed that Michael was very flexible and friendly when it came to things like meeting to give us the keys, and this is overall the kind of host that he is! The house is a bungalow, very well appointed inside with recently modernised bathrooms and a particularly fantastic deck that manages to take in both the sunset and sunrise. The beach is literally across the road, a very short walk. We went there twice a day to walk and collect pebbles and shells, and just marvel at the scenery. It really is a magical spot, away from teh crowds of Brittas Bay but still a very similar landscape. The house has a great, fully equipped kitchen and cute toys for kids to share. We had brought so much stuff to cook with (spices etc) but actually Michael has it all there, a friendly policy were you take what you want, but probably should leave a few things behind too to add to the collection! Overall I would highlighly recommend this place and we definitely want to go again.
Michael and Jane are wonderful hosts. From the start their communication was fantastic and they went above my expectation to accommodate our stay.
The house was in clean and good condition. We wanted to have a secluded place with access to the sea and the Wicklow mountains. If you open the windows you can hear the sea and you are only a 50 minute drive away from the mountains.
We had a lovely time in Driftwood and I can only recommend it. We would be happy stay there again!
Thank you Michael and Jane!
We are a family of four, my son and I were born in Canada and my wife and daughter were born in Dublin. I am an airline captain, so travel extensively. My wife is a retired air hostess. Having lived and worked abroad, we cherish our getaway place by the sea. The kids attend school in Dublin, so the place is free much of the time. Since our lives are a mash-up of Canadian and Irish traditions and perspectives, we are respectfully irreverent. We delight in sharing the things to do and see in and around the county. While letting on a private basis, we had a little girl who celebrated her first 7 birthdays in our home as her family returned each summer for a fortnight! Alas, the family has since grown too big for our place.
