About this listing
Come enjoy country life in our post and beam guest barn. This unique barn was designed as a recreational summer space for relatives and friends. It comfortably accommodates four people. Open loft living space with private master alcove.
Soaring beams, the fresh smell of pine, and large screened doors to meadows front and back make this lodging unique. Generous open space below with basketball, swing, kitchenette and two cedar picnic tables. Cozy living and sleeping loft above to accommodate four guests. Private master alcove.
Our property is on a dirt road and includes 11 acres of woods and meadow. There are hundreds of acres of surrounding conservation lands with trails for walking, biking, and exploring. There is a spectacular waterfall which is a half an hour walk from the house with deep pools for soaking or cooling off. There are also several lakes and ponds within a short drive such as Greenfield State Park and Cunningham Pond. Numerous organic farms and restaurants provide fresh and delicious food for dining in or eating out.
Interaction with Guests
My husband and I live in an antique colonial on the same property (across the meadow from barn). We are friendly and like to chat but we have our own thing going on and tend to keep pretty busy.
The Monadnock region is much appreciated for its gentle beauty and cultural life. Clear fresh lakes and streams for boating or swimming are within a short drive from your door. You will love the remote location and quiet natural environment for hiking, biking, walking, swimming, kayaking, etc. You will also enjoy the small town feel of Wilton and Peterborough with an old movie theater, gourmet chocolate shop, general store, and eclectic pubs, restaurants, and art studios. There is a wealth of cultural activities nearby such as free summer concerts and theater groups throughout the summer.
Our property is a little over an hour from Boston and approximately 45 minutes from Manchester and Nashua.
Other Things to Note
This barn is loaded with fun toys for old and young such as Foosball, Basketball hoop, scooter, juggling clubs, and adult sized swing. This is an ideal listing for the outdoor enthusiast and especially bicyclists because of the many scenic rides on country roads.
Please no smoking or pets. No B Ball after 12am.
We had a great stay! It was absolutely peaceful and beautiful, I loved every second.
Julia met me at the property, showed me around, told me to just let her know if I needed anything that might be missing. Even left delicious and fresh granola and milk for us.
So many fun activities inside the barn to make you feel like a kid again (scooter, bball, dart board, swing!). Great books throughout as well. Just all the details were SO thoughtful from flowers, to antiques, to books. Julia has EXCELLENT taste and style.
The property and barn is gorgeous and quiet. The master bed was SO comfortable! The night sky is lovely here and you will hardly hear a sound (cars, ppl, etc).
Sleeping Tip: There is a beautiful skylight window over the master bed. If you're sensitive to sleeping through morning light, then bring a sleep mask and you'll be all good!
Kitchen Tip: I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere, but there is no oven. Probably makes sense not to have one in a barn anyways. But just bring food accordingly. Also, there is a Keurig for coffee and they supply a few cups, and no wine glasses (I'm sure if I asked her she would have leant them to me). Bring a bag of ice and just note the fridge is just a little guy.
Local Tip: Bring your running shoes. There are quiet roads and insane hills all around to explore by foot. I saw a massive snake while out, but no bears :) Definitely check out the Frye Mill, short walk away.
Julia was a fantastic host and very responsive to any question or request. The barn is fantastic. As we drove up, my wife and I both said "We are not going to want to leave this place". We were right. We will be back.
Julia was there to show us around her beautiful post & beam barn that was recently constructed near her historic homestead. Julia had fresh wild flowers in various places, local raw milk & granola in the fridge along with suggestions for outings waiting for us. Our teenager [and her dad] enjoyed playing hoops inside. The wide plank wooden floors felt wonderful under bare feet and the memory foam mattress assured a good night's rest. We prepared most of our meals in the kitchen. The oversize barn doors & screens on each end assure good cross ventilation when needed. There are skylights in the upstairs loft. The hot shower, after climbing Mt. Monadnock, felt luxurious. There are plenty of towels and extra blankets.
Very friendly and generous hosts that go above & beyond.
Everything was wonderful: the barn was lofty, beautiful, clean, unique. The beds were comfortable, there were loads of towels, the whole layout was fun and felt both new and rustic at the same time. We all felt at home, relaxed and adventurous staying here. Julia was warm and welcoming and met us when we arrived and checked in on us (by email) during our stay to make sure everything was OK. I would highly recommend this airbnb. Looking forward to a return visit.
We rented Julia's Post & Beam Barn while attending our granddaughter's high school graduation from High Mowing Waldorf School in Wilton. This is a great place for a family get together. Our grandsons had a ball playing basketball, swinging on the swing or playing ball outside. We also hosted a celebration brunch for the entire family who attended the graduation. Sleeping quarters upstairs were very comfortable with all the amenities.
Julia was a fantastic host who made us feel welcome from the moment we checked in. Just a great time was had by all. A very unique barn. We loved it!!!
Upon our arrival, Julia provided us a tour of the guest barn to get us oriented. She even provided us with some breakfast items in the fridge, which was much appreciated. The guest barn is well appointed with everything we needed in kitchen and bathroom. It was well located for our mission of hiking the northern section of the Wapack Trail. The neighborhood is lovely, quiet and although we didn't have an opportunity to explore the immediate area, seems great for biking and walking. Lots of historic properties as well. The listing was indeed accurate. I would just add for reference that the queen bed mattress is foam and that there are no curtains on the master alcove window and skylight, which (combined with the abundant bird song in early June) can make it difficult to sleep much past dawn.
Sorry to hear you were not comfortable on the high end memory foam mattress. I will consider your idea of window treatments but the space is really a rustic retreat and not suited for black out blinds which would be more appropriate for a hotel. I agree with you the birds are chirpy in NH!
Julia was a wonderful host and the Post and Beam Guest Barn was even better than we expected. Julia met us at the barn when we arrived and gave us all the information we needed. She even left menus and brochures of near by attractions to visit (I would definitely recommend the waterfall and Frye's Measure Mill). The barn was incredibly clean and Julia even left us milk and granola in the fridge! The barn was perfect as there were so many things to do inside (swing, basketball hoop, games etc.) that even though it rained while we were there, we had a great time! We will definitely be back soon and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun weekend getaway. We were truly impressed!
