Interaction with Guests
Everything is in the Cottage for you to be completely private and self-contained, including information on finding local shops, services & cafes. Of course, we will be available if you need anything or have questions. We live in the main house.
Rockridge is one of Oakland's most desirable neighborhoods: Craftsman houses, leafy, tree-lined streets, peaceful, safe and private yet centrally located near public transit, freeways, and College Avenue, a hip and lively shopping and dining area featuring award-winning restaurants, cafes, independent bookstores, vintage & modern boutiques, a public library, Trader Joe's and Market Hall, a gourmet emporium which contains all that you need to put together a spectacular meal. On Sundays, walk along the creek to the farmer's market for fresh produce, music and a chance to be part of the neighborhood scene.
We are close to all major freeways: (phone number hidden). The Cottage is only 1 block from College Avenue and there is free on-street parking available. (We provide parking permits).
The metro (BART) is a 5-10 minute walk from the Cottage which means that reaching San Francisco is just a 20 minute ride from Rockridge Station. Also, walk only 1 block to find the bus stop for the 51 bus which goes directly to the UC Berkeley campus (2 miles).
CCA (California College of the Arts) is only a few blocks away and is an easy walk.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM AIRPORTS:
* From San Francisco Airport: take BART (Pittsburgh Bay Point Train) directly to Rockridge Station and walk 5-10 minutes to Cottage.
*From Oakland Airport: catch GOBART (local shuttle bus) for short ride from airport to Coliseum BART Station. Take Richmond Train & ride to MacArthur Station, there transfer to Pittsburgh Bay Point Train & go 1 stop to Rockridge Station. Walk 5-10 minutes to reach the Cottage.
Other Things to Note
There are many micro-climates in the Bay Area. The Rockridge neighborhood is very temperate and afternoons are usually sunny.
The main rule is to enjoy the relaxing surroundings and all the neighborhood has to offer. This location is not, however, suited for loud parties or large gatherings as one of the pluses of our setting is our quiet and considerate neighbors. Also, we live in the main house.
Only guests who have registered beforehand can stay overnight in the Cottage and the rental is for short term stay only.
There can be absolutely no smoking ( even outside the Cottage or on the deck), no pets and no candles. We strive to maintain a clean, fragrance-free space and to use natural and organic products when possible. Your security deposit is at risk if these rules are not followed.
This Rockridge cottage was a wonderful retreat, nicely appointed with attention to all the details travelers might need (including welcome snacks, milk, water, coffee/tea). The cottage itself is lovely, but equally lovely is the surrounding patio and entrance area, with private spot for guests. Host Anna was a great resource for local information. A perfect venue; we will definitely return.
Great location! Parking was easy if you have a car, but a short walk to the Bart makes public transit super easy too. Jim was extremely hospitable and the cottage was very clean. My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much. We would easily recommend the Rockridge Cottage to anyone.
Jim is a great host. The cottage is really peaceful and quiet. Location is perfect. :)
Jim's cottage was perfect in every way - location, size, amenities, comfort and more. He was a super gracious host who's created an amazing retreat in his backyard. I can't wait to go back!
This is a great spot for one or two people. The cottage is nicely renovated and cozy and the bed is very comfortable. The porch and garden area outside are beautiful and peaceful. The neighborhood is fabulous. Their street is tree-lined and full of beautiful homes, and they are a short walk from College Ave which is a pretty amazing stretch of great restaurants, a few good bars, a bookstore, two grocery stores, etc. All you could want on a visit to the East Bay. Jim and his wife Anna were wonderful hosts. All in all, a great spot.
What a delightful gem in Rockridge. Clean and homey. I wish my own home had such wonderful natural light! Nice neighborhood with variety of restaurants and stores all within walking distance from the house. Jim is a thoughtful, good host. Would definitely stay again.
We had a great time at Rockridge Cottage, we would recommend it to anyone visiting Oakland, CA. Barbara & Peter
