This is my first time trying Airbnb, I'm so glad with my choice staying at Mat and Randy's lovely home and neighbourhood. We love how they renovated & designed their house - which is over one hundred years old. We loved how they made us feel comfortable and at home through every detail and thoughtfulness! Although the weather was not that great, we still had a good time. We love Chicago, the Andersonville community and Matt & Randy with their two cute cats. We'll try to come back another time when the weather is nice!
Now Mat & Randy set up the standard high, hopefully there're other Airbnb hosts like them to make everyone's experience as great as mine! ^_^
We met on something west and Winnemac. I, the Airbnb virgin. He, the slightly older and more experienced. As I walked closer, I gazed upon his welcoming stoop, clean shaven and tidy to the proverbial “t.”
“Welcome home,” I thought to myself. I then reached forward and knocked on the large wooden door with my innocent, shaking, virgin hands. My heart raced, as most virgin hearts do! My mind was like a tardy CTA Route 81, darting through \rush hour traffic. I saw someone inside, lurking in the living room. He made lingering eye contact, with a warm smile that melted my cool virgin energy. The door whooshed open to reveal a roaring file and jovial smile, “Welcome to Chicago!” he blurted out.
My airbnb virginity is lost, I could not have picked better host to lose it with. Mat and Randy are more welcoming than Queen Elizabeth II, herself. If you keep up with current affairs, they have no need to mark the bowl of nuts, bad etiquette we say to Queen Elizabeth!
We had a great time getting to know each other over a beer or three (woops), but this is what life is all about. Shared moments, common respect, and appreciation are turn-key to their house. As a now prior airbnb virgin, let me leave you with a profound message. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” Lao Tzu. Be a Honey Badger is cool, being a polite Honey Badger is Awesome.
What great hosts! Mat and Randy rock!!! Lovely house, fun company, and good conversation. I couldn't have been made to feel more at home and cared for. I, for one, will always choose their home first. If you are visiting Chicago and want a cool place to stay with hosts who are in the know and ready to make your visit the best ever, check out Mat and Randy. They won't disappoint. :-)
This was my first airbnb experience, and it was spectacular. Chicago was frigidly cold compared to what I'm used to as an Angeleno, but Mat & Randy's home was warm, welcoming and comfortable. The heated bathroom floor was quite a treat in the early morning. The neighborhood is quaint and filled with cute, independent shops and restaurants. I am definitely planning a returning trip to Andersonville, and there's no place I would recommend more than Mat & Randy's gorgeous home.
Mat and Randy were superb hosts who made my daughter and I feel right at home on our first airbnb experience! We traveled to Chicago for a college visit and found ourselves in wonderful hands with gracious and thoughtful people in a beautiful home. Our stay was pretty short -- 2 nights -- and we did not spend lots of time together since we had a full agenda in town, but we loved visiting by the fire the evening of our arrival and truly appreciated Mat and Randy's availability to help us figure out things like how to use the public transit system and where to eat breakfast.
Their home is super clean and very tastefully decorated, and there were little extras like a coffee/tea/tangelo tray in the mornings, little travel shampoo/conditioner (great since we forgot ours :), and space for our little bag of refrigerated food. We had a car, and were able to find (free) parking on the street just a block away. Most of all, though, our hosts were just so sweet and welcoming. They have created a lovely home and really like sharing it with others. My daughter and I both really loved being there and hope to see these wonderful guys again.
Mat and Randy were fabulous! They were so lovely to talk to, had so many wonderful suggestions for exploring Andersonville and Chicago, and were overall very sweet guys. Example: our car got stuck in the snow and they came outside in the snow and cold to help us push it out. How sweet is that?! Their home was gorgeous - so much so that we almost ditched our exploration plans out to curl up in front of their fireplace instead. I look forward to coming back here!
P.S. - If all these positive reviews didn't persuade you, this one will (especially if you're traveling during the winter): heated bathroom floor.
My second time with Mat and Randy. Great hosts as always.
Mat and Randy were FANTASTIC hosts. We just felt so welcome spending our time with Mat and Randy. The house and rooms were clean and very comfortable. Also, the location was in walking distance to good restaurants and bars. I think the only regret was not staying longer. I could write a novel about how great Mat and Randy so if you are thinking of staying here just do it, you won't regret it...unless I have a booking first :)
Look forward to seeing both of you soon or if not in China
Wonderful time! Great Hosts. Hope to come back.
Mat and Randy are great hosts- always attentive and available, even when they were traveling out of country. This is our favorite place to stay in Chicago.
