We were quite surprised but also concerned when we read your review of your stay at our house. We are very sorry that you were disappointed when you found that there were other people living on the property and that there were dogs present. Out of this concern that there must have been some misunderstandings and/or we may not have made things as clear as perhaps we could have, I have reviewed the listing for Casa Colibri Zicatela and the following are my comments:
First, the listing does not use the word "exclusive" as far as I can see although it does state that you are renting an "entire home/apt." I can understand that perhaps you could have interpreted this to mean that you had exclusive use of the "property" but we interpret this to mean that our guests have exclusive use of the house. I can only add that this part of the listing is the Airbnb description which I cannot change. The listing also states: "Guests have full enjoyment of and unrestricted access to the entire home including the backyard garden, pool and "palapa" roof terrace." however I don't see the word "exclusive" in this either. But in the interests of accuracy, I will attempt to clarify this in another place in the description on the listing.
Further along in the listing, it states: "Owners are not present during guest's stay". When we wrote the description of the listing, we thought this referred to whether the owners were living in the same house as the renters and of course we are not living in the same house. But I concede this is somewhat ambiguous and I am going to alter this statement to clarify that we do live on the property but not in the same house.
In another part of the listing, under "The Space", we state: "Casa Colibri Zicatela is the larger of two self-contained, private houses inside a walled/gated compound with an electric security alarm around the perimeter. The compound provides total privacy and security for residents of both homes and has off street parking for up to three vehicles." I will amend this to state that the owners are the residents of the other house.
I was unable to find a "Pet Free clause", as you describe it, in the listing. But I did find the following:
1. Under the heading "The Space", it says "Pet Owner: Dog(s) and Cat(s)" I'm pretty sure this refers to the owners/hosts' pets are present and is pretty clear I think, so that people with allergies would not be advised to rent this home.
2. Under the heading "Amenities", the two words " Pets allowed" are clearly stroked out to indicate that pets - the guests' pets - are not allowed and of course this is because we already have pets on the property who would likely not be compatible with other animals.
3. Under the heading "House Rules", it states "Not suitable for pets". Again this is not a reference to our own pets but to pets belonging to guests.
Nevertheless, your point is valid that we need to state that the dogs and cats are off leash. I would also like you to know Stacey and Jon that we have now added a fence at each end of the house which means the two dogs no longer have access to the garden terrace, pool or back garden.
Finally, Stacey and Jon, we are proud of our home and the entire property. Since we listed this home on Airbnb, we have had nothing but positive (some would say "rave") reviews by previous renters. We are sorry that your stay did not live up to your expectations. Obviously, we want nothing more than that our guests have a thoroughly enjoyable vacation and that our home be a major part of that outcome. We apologize sincerely for any misunderstandings that may have occurred and will try to correct or clarify anything that may need it.
Let us wish you all the best for your future business endeavours and vacation trips.
Sofia and DeWayne
