Our visit was beautiful! The house had plenty of room and outdoor living space, only a short walk to the beach. Athina was so welcoming and helpful, especially getting familiar with the town and situated with groceries since we came when it wasn't high tourist season. Thank you so much! highly recommended
Stay here! We rented the villa for two weeks. The first week we were 2 adults and 2 children. The second week, we were 4 adults and two children. We had plenty of room to spread out. There are three big dining tables, two outside, for sitting and enjoying each others' company. We cooked many meals at home and the kitchen had enough pots and pans and utensils. The location is excellent. It is away from busy Chora (Naxos town), but accessible by rental car or bus. Plaka beach, a 5 minute walk down the road, is gorgeous. There are an array of family-run Greek tavernas, mini-marts, an ice-cream parlour, and other bars are restaurants in walking distance. Athina and her boyfriend, Takki, are wonderful people. They were so generous with their suggestions and so sweet to our boys. They helped us communicate with the hospital when our son got an earache, took us to the best butcher, and brought us fresh towels regularly. We had a memorable experience on Naxos and it was largely due to this home away from home.
I have to review Naxos itself, not just Athena. But let's start with the easy one, Athena. She is remarkably warm and friendly, caring for her guests as if you are her family. From eggs and tomatos and coffee in the kitchen, to the fact that she set up our rental car for us and met us at the ferry - along with the rental car - to get us settled in. She had plenty of insight and was always available to help us or guide us in any way. By the time we left Naxos, we actually missed Athena as much as we missed the island.
The house is perfect. It was not yet beach season, so we missed that part of it, but the location is spectacular if you want to take in the beach culture. Truly a very short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Which runs the course along a lovely - and long - stretch of tavernas, cafes and restaurants and shops. If part of your party wanted to take a car and explore the island, whoever stayed behind would be in a great place to relax. Actually, you don't even need to leave the house for it to be perfect.
Having been to other Greek Islands - at varying ages - my family and I agree that Naxos is by far our favorite. Especially if you are on a family vacation (we were with my 80 year-old father and our 15 year-old daughter) Naxos has a perfect mix of ancient history, charming villages, hopping town and fantastic beaches. 5 days was not enough - and it was not even beach season when we were there.
You DO need a car, absolutely. And you really must explore the island, it is like none other. All in all, this was an absolutely perfect visit.
