Atcot Cottage has been our own special sanctuary for years but is now available for holidays and short breaks. A Grade II Listed, 18th Century smugglers cottage retaining lots of original features, it has been lovingly restored to provide luxury accommodation for 4 people. Compact and cosy, tucked away down a little alleyway, it is a perfect holiday location for getting away from it all. Only 200 yards to the harbour and beach and well placed for exploring the lovely North Yorkshire Coast.

The space
Atcot has had a colourful history, the remnants of which can still be seen today. From where fishermen sharpened their knives on the stone windowsill and the old fish smoking sheds (now stocked with the all essential nets and crabbing buckets!), to the smugglers who fitted a door upstairs to quickly escape to the neighbours if the dreaded knock came at the door (today it's our ironing cupboard - only ever so slightly less exciting!).

Although relatively small, Atcot has been beautifully renovated to provide flexible accommodation over 3 floors. On the first floor is a characterful room with original beams and flooring with a small double bed and a second, smaller room with bunk beds.
There is a further double bedroom in the attic with lovely old beams - therefore please feel free to use which ever rooms you prefer.

Whilst it has 3 bedrooms, however, we still suggest it best accommodates 4 guests, due to the smaller living space downstairs.

On the ground floor is an open plan living area and well equipped but compact kitchen. A microwave and other additional cooking utensils are stored in the cupboard under the stairs.

Atcot also has a lovely old fireplace with multi-fuel stove to ensure your stay is cosy and warm. Firelighters / kindling and some wood or coal will be provided for your first fire. More fuel can be purchased at Betsy and Bo or at Lindisfarne Cottage on Church Street
who also sell all of your fire lighting essentials.

Wifi is provided throughout the house and a Samsung Smart TV to access all the usual streaming apps - Netflix / Amazon etc.

The compact bathroom is also accessed from the ground floor and includes shower, bath and heated towel rail.

Electric storage heaters charge up twice a day to heat the cottage. The controls for the input and output are under the flap on the top right of each heater. The attic room heater is controlled separately and can be switched on (and off) at the wall if required as this room heats up very quickly!

Guest access
The whole house and ourside yard is available for guests.

Other things to note
Covid19 Update

As we start to think about easing out of lockdown we are seeing more and more enquiries coming in around future bookings.

As such we just wanted to reassure our guests that we provide a flexible cancellation policy should you need to amend or cancel your dates in these uncertain times. Please refer to the cancellation policy section for full details.

Whilst we have always taken pride in the cleanliness of our cottage, we are taking additional steps to ensure all hard surfaces are cleaned with disinfectant and all mattress and pillow protectors will be removed and cleaned after each stay.

As we are asking more of our team during this time, as a temporary measure we kindly request that check in is from 5pm and checkout at 9am. This is simply to allow the extra time needed to properly clean and sanitise the cottage and to adhere to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) guidelines, which suggest waiting 3 hours before entering the cottage.

In addition we are blocking out days in our calendar for regular deep cleans, and our team have all undertaken a Preventing COVID-19 course and can provide certification if required.

If anyone has any queries around the above, please feel free do contact us.

Location

Staithes, England, United Kingdom

Staithes is such a unique, special place, just ask the locals who genuinely refer to ‘Staithes Time’. Walk down the hill into Staithes and you will find that you completely lose track of all time, worries and most likely your phone signal - which let’s admit is no bad thing!

It is the simple pleasures we love most when in Staithes, from long cliff top dog walks, to rock-pooling and fossil hunting along Yorkshire’s Dinosaur Coast. Or grab yourself a line and bucket (we have supplies in the shed) for crabbing off the harbour walls, and finish off the day with a fish and chip supper or a cosy night in with a glass of wine in front of a roaring fire!
