Beautifully decorated 3 room flat with a romantic view over the river full of refreshing breeze. Spacious living room with comfortable sofas and TV set. Welcome to use the kitchen. Barry, the chef can give you advice on the best local cuisine.
The flat is located on the riverbank and nicely decorated with traditional ornaments. You can enjoy the touch of Sarawak as you spend time here. Please note that the price is for each room and you may have to share the common space with other guests if there are any during your stay.
You can go anywhere in town on foot. A few mins walk to the bus stop to Bako National Park and to the boat pier for a Malay Kampung on the other side of the river (the boat costs just 1MYR) . Within 10-15 mins walk, you will get the best baozi in town at 52 Jln. Padungan. 10-15 mins walk to the owner’s restaurant. There are also some good restaurants nearby for vegetarian Chinese and Indian food etc. If you are visiting in July or August, you will have a chance to visit the Kuching food festival in this neighborhood.
Interaction with Guests
Depends on guests' request. The owner lives upstairs and will always be happy to initiate you into the real Sarawak culture.
A river view, constantly blowing brisk wind and quiet neighborhood are the best things about this flat.
There is a public bus stop around the corner but you can easily access anywhere in town on foot. Just for your info: taxi normally costs 26 MYR to/from the airport and 33 MYR to/from the bus terminal.
Other Things to Note
Barry, the owner is a well-rounded hospitable Hakka Chinese descendant who really enjoys meeting people and looking after them. He is a Sarawakian chef, culinary instructor and a manager of the restaurant.
No drugs, smoking is allowed only in the limited area and please keep the place clean.
My knees aren't too good, and I hadn't realised Barry's place is two floors above the ground (no lift). Also, it isn't in the main town centre.
Barry is a lovely host, and I had many terrific experiences in Kuching I couldn't have had without him. He took me to some wonderful places to eat, and to a marvellous wooden Buddhist temple.
Barry is a very helpful host... he picked us up from the airport and organised a taxi back for us after check out... the rooms are value for money. Its clean and comfortable.
Barry is a friendly and helpful host, if you like and he has time he will pick you up from the airport or the bus Terminal for around 20 RM. The apt is a little away from the center but anyway very close to the most Hot spots in Kuching. You can explore the city center easy by walking if the rain is not disturbing you too much. I could stay alone in the apt and I felt at home and had a good time. I would go there again if I go back to Kuching.
The room we stayed in was not the one described by the pictures and it was not the full appartment, as mentionned in the description. But Barry is a good host.
Barry is a Very good host, has good knowledge of local places to eat and even bought me breakfast one morning. Flat is nice with decent internet and is fairly close to the town centre
Barry is an excellent host. He picked us up from the airport and took us for dinner the first night, he also was kind enough to take the time and show us around.
The house is very spacious and well decorated and the room has very nice view to the river. Kitchen and toilet are simple but comfortable and internet is working quite fine.
We really like the area and finally decided to stay one month.
This place is value for money, Barry is a friendly and accommodation guy. We would have stayed longer had the internet connection been consistent.
