Quiet room on the first floor of a 100 year-old farmhouse on 7 acres south of Salem. Beautiful park-like setting close to town. Fully furnished, fridge and microwave, private bath, access to laundry room.
Large front window looks out over the front lawn with tall firs. Very quiet; own bathroom. Easy to use propane fireplace with thermostat. Also, the room has a microwave and small fridge, if you want to cook simple meals. There are 2 bowls, 2 coffee mugs, paper plates and plastic cutlery. Also see our listing "Studio Retreat in the Country"; same house and property, but good for longer stays.
Access to front porch, circular drive and grounds, shared laundry room.
Interaction with Guests
Jay is available for questions about the area and apartment; Cynthia teaches but would love to meet you if she is here. Cynthia will include an art or writing lesson for $35 per hour if interested. Jay is available if you have questions.
A rural setting on the edge of Salem. Because of the tall trees and surrounding acreage, civilization seems far away. Easy access from I-5, plenty of restaurants nearby, as well as larger stores and food markets. We are one hour south of Portland, one hour east of the coast, one hour west of Cascades, one hour north of Eugene.
5 miles south of downtown Salem. City bus stop 1/4 mile away.
Other Things to Note
Gravel driveway, no covered parking. Lucy is a lab-mix, and friendly; Milo is a grey Manx cat, friendly and curious.
No smoking. Cynthia is asthmatic.
Small pets may be allowed; please ask first.
Check-in after 2pm; check-out by noon, although we can be flexible.
Drive slowly on property; animals present.
I was met by Jay and his great pets, all of whom accompanied me on a tour of the attractive country acreage. Jay then showed me to the Fireplace Room, which was comfortable on a couple cool nights thanks to the fireplace and its thermostat.
I was disappointed in never meeting Cynthia, who was either teaching school or unwell. Lucy the dog and Milo the cat did their best to make up for her absence.
Jay also greeted me on my return for my second night, as did Lucy.
At first exposure, the close but not adjoining bath seemed on the cool side and might have benefited from a heater of some kind. However, the shower was excellent, the water was nice and hot, and I was no longer cold!
Overall, a pleasant stay in the countryside just outside Salem.
I was looking for a last minute stay and was warmly greeted by Jay and was able to meet Cynthia upon my departure in the morning. Both were very friendly hosts and made me feel welcome. The room and private bath were clean and the the bed was very comfortable. The fridge and microwave were an added bonus and the gas stove made the room very cozy. There was a TV but no cable but that was not a problem since their wifi worked wonderfully. I would highly recommend this rustic accommodation.
Cynthia and Jay were kind, welcoming and friendly folks. When we arrived they showed us around their property, introduced their animals and shared their personal and professional work with us. The bed was very cozy, the shower was hot and the pressure was nice and the fireplace was lovely. We really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended for nature lovers, friends of animals and appreciators of a rural and rustic setting.
Cynthia and Jay were very warm and welcoming hosts. Their fireplace was Sooo warm - it was awesome!
Loved everything about this place! Warm welcome, cozy room and secluded location, but still with easy access to the city. Strong recommend. I'll be back!
When we travel, the most important thing to us is to feel comfortable and safe. This is a very safe neighborhood and the accommodations are warm and quiet. We felt very much at home with the Herrons, and they were welcoming hosts to their home. We both got some much needed good nights of sleep. The family dog, Lucy, was a sweetie too!
Cynthia was out of town, but Jay took excellent care of us. He was super nice, and the dog was a sweetheart. The bathroom was huge, and the room had everything we needed for our short stay. The location was great for us.
