Beautiful location right on the shore of Kenmare Bay just 2 miles from Kenmare town. Watch the otters, sea birds and wild deer from your deck overlooking the beach. Relax in the outdoor Jacuzzi or by the wood stove. Spacious recently renovated home, originally built by my grandparents as a holiday home in the 1950s, successfully adapted for the 21st century!

The space

Originally built by my grandparents in the 1950s, on the farm featured in Harry Bewick's 1930s book 'A Wild Taste'. We have endeavored to bring this historical gem into the 21st century.

Guest access

Our private beach and slipway, so guests are welcome to bring their own kayaks and other watersport equipment (at their own risk).
Also enjoy our woodland and waterfall walks through acres of ancient Irish woodland

Interaction with guests

As little or as much as you want!

Other things to note

There is an additional charge for electricity. We read the meter at arrival and departure and work out usage as per current electricity prices
We will not be offering short stay holidays in summer 2015 so in July & August 2015 the minimum stay is 7 nights.
Also as the cabin is heated with a wood burning stove, on cold winter days you will need to get a good fire going to heat up the radiators. A big basket of fuel is included in the price.
Thank you!

What a lovely place to stay! The cabin is huge and comfy, with simple, pretty touches and very well equipped. The view from the decking is stunningly beautiful. A deer came along, one day, which was a special moment. I would have swum in the sea, at the private 'beach', if I hadn't been put off by the large amount of seaweed catching on to my sea sandals, but Cara and her family swim there. Without wifi or a reliable 3G/4G signal at the cabin, bringing an OS map would be a good idea if you want to explore a lot on foot. There are lots of leaflets for other activities, but planning in advance would also help. Having said that, you can get wifi in cafes etc in Kenmare. The Hot Tub was great, with skin-friendly mountain water. We had one clear-sky, memorable evening, in it, watching shooting stars and gazing at the Milky Way. Kenmare is a very nice little town, with some interesting places to visit. Free parking is a bonus. My daughters said the fish and chips at O Donnabhains was the best they'd ever had. There's so much to explore, further afield too. Shopping at SuperValu gives you local food. Try the Soda bread if you haven't had it before. An amusing delight, for us, was a CD of Irish Music someone else had left behind in the cabin. It gave us some dancing and singing. Cara was very calmly helpful. We also enjoyed talking to her horse and cats. A very recommended place to stay. I'd be back there, tomorrow, if I could.

Beautiful cabin and the location could not be beat. You can see the sea and mountains from your bedroom window and hear the waterfall from the woodlands right next door. One morning I was woke up by the gravel outside our cabin being disturbed, when I looked out the window two deer were walking past. Reading my book in the hammock over looking the private beach was so peaceful. We will miss watching movies by the fire, eating dinner by candle light on the covered portch and our chats under the stars in the hot tub. My 12 year old son said this was our best holiday ever, my husband said we will have to go a long way to find somewhere as beautiful as this next year.

The house was amazing and very private. I loved it from the minute we arrived. It is a lot bigger than it looks in the picture. And there was a lot more things available in the house than what is listed i.e. Travel cot, highchair etc, so definitely worth emailing before hand. We travelled with a 4year old and a baby and it was perfect for them too, From the adventures down to the water and the space around and in the house to play and of course the hot tub! We could have stayed here for our entire stay without leaving and it still would have been the perfect little holiday. Would highly recommend staying here and we will definitely be back. It was our best holiday in Ireland!! Thank you Cara

Cara's place was as described. Ideal for anyone wanting to get away from it all with beautiful scenery. Cara was very respectful of our privacy and we really enjoyed our secluded break away.

Great place and respectful hosts that live on the property but leave you be. They even went out of their way to arrange a forgotten item to be returned to us. We didn't expect to pay additionally for electricity but it was only 20 euros for 3 nights. A bit of a far walk from Kenmare town but nice to have a beautiful spot to ourselves on the water.
