The Space

Set away from the hustle and bustle in a quiet rural setting. 5 kms from Kamo and 10kms from Whangarei CBD.

A studio unit with an extra bedroom, sleeps 4. A couple of extras can be accomodated on request.
Kitchenette provides easy cooking, and BBQ for outdoor dining.
Sky TV with loads of channels and WIFI is availabe.
Plenty of off street parking in an all level parking area.

Located just a 10 minute drive off State High way One, we are the perfect location for that relaxing getaway, or to use a base while you enjoy exploring the surrounding areas.

It is only a 45 minute drive to the popular Bay of islands, a 10 minute drive to Kamo small shopping centre and a 20 minute drive to Whangarei CBD.
Whangarei is a town of approximately 50,000 people and is set on a pretty harbour.

Beautiful sandy beaches are within a 40 minute drive, including Tutukaka, the access point to the famous Poor Knights. This is also a popular destination for deep sea fishing and diving.

This unit is 7 minute drive to a golf course and a 10 minute drive to a popular bush walk, across the Western Hills.

Enjoy a quiet night or two in the country and learn about the local rural community from friendly hosts. We can also offer assistance in booking tours or day time sight seeing.

  • Thanks Sandra and Max for your hospitality, muffins and fresh juice on arrival plus other food as well,it was a great break from city life and I would recommend this locale to anyone staying in the area. My first airBnB experience and it certainly lived up to all the previous reviews. Thanks again.

  • Fantastic. We stayed with our 4 month son. Sandra provided a cot and bedding. Very clean , comfy beds and great shower. Great views as well. Highly recommended.

  • Sandra and Max were warm and welcoming. The room was spacious and well equipped, with some lovely personal touches: fruit on the table, fresh flowers, and muffins too! Great breakfast provided. It is a lovely spot with great views. Highly recommend :-)

  • Sandra and Max have been great hosts and made us feel very at home. They kept the place in a very good condition and also recommended good places for us to visit/eat. We will definitely go back there to stay if we visit Whangarei again and would not hesitate recommending this to a friend visiting NZ.

  • Amazing little spot up on the hill about 10kms from Whangarei township (just a tip for not getting lost using GPS put in Going Road and there will be a sign with Hillview B&B at junction of Going Road, head up hill and Hill View Road continues on straight at the sharp left hand bend of Going Road - B&B on right about 100 mtrs). Beautiful unit that would suit a family of 4 or 2 x couples as has separate bedroom too. Arrived to a very friendly welcome from our hosts Sandra & Max and they quickly showed us how to get the cricket on Sky!! The unit has absolutely everything you need as well as fresh Welcome Muffins, as well as fresh fruit on the table and tray with all you need to eat for breakfast - fresh milk, yoghurt, stewed fruit & bread in fridge and home made muesli, other cereals, eggs and home made Strawberry Jam (which unfortunately we did not get a chance to try as we were too full for Toast and Jam). Absolutely recommend staying here and will certainly return if we are up that way again.
Thank you for your hospitality Sandra & Max. Regards Cheryl & Ray

  • We received a very warm welcome from Sandra and Max, including home made scones and jam. They were extremely helpful and even loaned us a Tom Tom sat nav. Sandra plied us with further treats like home made cookies and ice cream with coffee liqueur which was wonderful. The house was in a fabulous position with panoramic views over the plain below and of the hills beyond.
Our self contained unit was very clean, well equipped and comfortable.
This was the start of our holiday in New Zealand and it set the bar very high. We would love to go back again

  • Great and peaceful location. The accommodation itself was perfect with all the needed amenities and spotless. Very friendly and nice hosts. We enjoyed our stay and were pleased to meet Sandra and Max.

  • Our stay with Sandra couldn't have been better … unless we had chosen to stay longer. The setting is spectacular, with beautiful views from their hilltop across the valley. The accommodations were perfect for our family of four, we had everything we could want including homemade muesli, jam, cookies, and a couple of local "Tui" beers in the fridge. Additionally, Sandra and Max are wonderful people. In our short stay we were able to visit Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest and see a bit of the Bay of Islands. If you want to visit the Northland, I highly recommend Sandra's cozy place.

  • This was a lovely experience. We felt very welcome and enjoyed our stay very much. We are planning on going again in February, so that should show anyone planning to book this lovely place how nice it is. I definitely recommend it.

  • Such a wonderful place to stay - so quiet, clean... and Sandra has gone the extra mile with muffins, jams, fruit, juice... It was unfortunate that we were just passing through.

Hi, I'm Sandra. My husband, Max, and I live on the family farm where I spent my chidhood. We own one acre which is located in the middle of the farm in an elevated position with amazing rural views. We love it here because it is so quiet and peaceful and over the last 17 years we have developed our little peace of paradise. We enjoy meeting people from other countries and cultures sharing experiences with our guests and of course telling them about our wonderful lifestyle here in Northland. We are within easy commuting to the Bay of Islands which has some of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand. I am a retired Real Estate Company Director and Max is a retired from his painting and decorating business. I love cooking and being able to offer my guests some of my baking and home made produce. We both love gardening and eat from our vegetable garden all year round, We are also happy for our guests to sample fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden. We only use natural sprays on the garden so all our food is very healthy and fresh. We have four generations of the family living around us and our son Paul has a unique logging and timber museum that is well worth viewing for those interested. You will see one of the largest kauri tables in New Zealand. VIewing is by appointment and donation. Max and I welcome you to an overnight stay or more to experience a piece of rural lifestyle in NZ We look forward to hosting you.
