So. New Zealand is a beautiful country. Anyone who's seen Lord of the Rings knows this.
Farming has been the economic backbone of New Zealand since its inception. Anyone who's been a student of history knows this.
Farmers - kiwis - have a unique and wonderfully warm sense of hospitality. Anyone who's met a kiwi knows this, too.
Now, imagine a pretty two bedroom cottage with a great bed (always important) looking over a few thousand acres of the sort of green pasture that Ireland wants you to think they have.
Now imagine that your hosts pick tomatoes and avocados out of their garden when they hear you like those fruits.
Max and Sandra's home is a few miles outside of Whangarei -- but you would be missing out on a wonderful slice of Kiwi Hospitality and a great place to stay if you chose anywhere else near there. Accept no substitutes.
Trust me, the anonymous man on the internet, who writes this stuff. Because, you know, the internet's safe, right?
But here's the thing: I'm from Whangarei, originally. And I'd stay with Max and Sandra before *anywhere* else in that part of the world. I'm looking forward to seeing them again, probably later this year.
This was by far the best BNB we have stayed. It's a beautiful country setting
and the unit you stay in is immaculate and totally self contained . You could not find more amiable helpful fun and generous hosts than Sandra and Max
Very warm welcome, very nice area, house was very clean, you have all items for breakfast, for me it was very well to stay there!. And two very lovely cats!.
Great self-contained unit with lovely hosts and friendly cats Pepper and Cocoa. Accommodation is airy, comfortable and spacious, en-suite, with well equipped kitchenette, separate from the main house. Peaceful setting and great views of surrounding meadows and hills. Sandra spoils you with wonderful home baking. We had a very pleasant 3 nights here, thank you Sandra and Max.
When we approached the farm and homestay I thought "Wow this is amazing ! ". Sandra and Max made us feel very welcome and looked after us very well with little things like a beautiful bunch of freshly picked flowers and home baking. We felt like we were personal guests.
Sandra was very welcoming and friendly. She left us some lovely treats. She was helpful about places to go. The unit was very well equipped and very comfortable and even better than described.
Sandra & Max were very patient with us in our arrival, which was a bit late. Upon our arrival we were amazed by their lovely home and accommodation. Sandra left us fresh fruit cake of which we devoured immediately. We even got to pet their two beautiful friendly cats.

Hi, I'm Sandra.
My husband, Max, and I live on the family farm where I spent my chidhood.
We own one acre which is located in the middle of the farm in an elevated position with amazing rural views.
We love it here because it is so quiet and peaceful and over the last 18 years we have developed our little peace of paradise.
We enjoy meeting people from other countries and cultures sharing experiences with our guests and of course telling them about our wonderful lifestyle here in Northland.
We are within easy commuting to the Bay of Islands which has some of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand.
I am a retired Real Estate Company Director and Max is a retired from his painting and decorating business.
I love cooking and being able to offer my guests some of my baking and home made produce.
We both love gardening and eat from our vegetable garden all year round, We are also happy for our guests to sample fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden.
We have four generations of the family living around us and our son Paul has a unique logging and timber museum that is well worth viewing for those interested.
You will see one of the largest kauri tables in New Zealand.
VIewing is by appointment and donation.
Max and I welcome you to an overnight stay or more to experience a piece of rural lifestyle in NZ
