THE JEWEL'S NEW ADDRESS: 9680 OSBORNE TURNPIKE RICHMOND VA 23231. In this country setting you will find FRESH CLEAN AIR and a SAFE and SANITIZED PLACE TO RELAX with GREAT RIVER VIEWS. And like the Jewel, the GiaMaria and the Cookie B, my other boats, are also listed in a safe country marina setting only two miles down the road. Yet we are only a 15 minute country drive to the center of the city. And the LILY PAD CAFE, a favorite riverside outdoor eatery (tented/heated) is virtually next door.

The space
You will have a ringside seat on the rivah to witness wildlife such as herons, ospreys, cormorants, kingfishers, bald eagles, Canadian geese, and a bevy of song birds. You will also see fishermen and pleasure boaters in every sort of craft, or tugboats with huge barges and mammoth ships especially during the spring and fall. In the months of August and September 500 lb sturgeons throw themselves slam out of the water when spawning, while turkeys gobble and owls hoot from across the channel. And as the last of the old rivermen who worked the James when tugs and barges were still made of wood, I enjoy recounting stories of my 75 years on the waterways to almost anyone who will listen. This is a beautiful setting where Gen. Layfette was supposed to have disembarked from his ship to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American Revolution, but because the roads were too muddy for his coach to travel, he continued on up river to the City of Richmond. It is a classy city with great museums, botanical gardens, world class medical centers, universities and beautiful antebellum homes on the one hand, and a fun down to earth city on the other with fifty craft breweries, craft that appear to have popped up in every little nook and cranny. There is so much history in this area that it would be impossible to take it all in even in one year. And therefore, boats, the Jewel, the GiaMaria and the Cookie B are not just clean and safe places to lay your head, but a place where unique experiences begin and where wonderful life-long memories are made.

You will be close to some of the best nightlife and restaurants, theaters and breweries to be found in Richmond. But what is really a plus; virtually in your front door you will find the Lilly Pad, a one of a kind eclectic restaurant which is right on the river with music, fantastic food and it is all at a very reasonable price.

I am a retired tug boat company owner/captain and the last of the old world skippers who made his living on the James River. In fact, I got my training when tugs, barges and even some ships were made of wood. And at the "young" age of 77, I am blessed to have enjoyed wonderful health and vigor. I have a degree from the Richard Bland College of the College of William and Mary, and I write different genres of books such as children's stories and historical fiction (some published).
I am well traveled and enjoy people no matter who they are or where they come from. As you will see, I enjoy shooting all sorts of pictures and hope one day to offer them to the public in order to show life as it is on and around the "Chosen River, James and I am happy to share them with you.
