Welcome to Castle Tam Hostel. We're in the heart of lively, upscale San Pedro, only 400 meters from the University of Costa Rica and the student nightlife of Calle de la Amargura. Our newly renovated hostel is 10 minutes by bus from downtown San Jose and walking distance from San Pedro Mall, three supermarkets and many restaurants at affordable prices!
Our 15 rooms are a mix of dormitories and private rooms with WiFi and all of our bathrooms have hot water. We have two full kitchens, plenty of fridge space for your food and free coffee! If you don't like to cook there is also front door delivery service from nearby restaurants You can hang out with fellow travelers in the interior courtyard, or watch students pass by on the outside terrace. If you feel like staying indoors enjoy one of our two TV rooms. No laptop? No problem. We also have three Internet connected PCs so you can upload all of your photos from the beach.
San Pedro is a safe, upscale neighborhood in San Jose, so we enjoy taking our guests out for movie nights, skating, city walks and pub crawls on Calle de la Amargura. So if you are looking for a quiet place to lay your head before heading to the beach look no further then Castle Tam Hostel.
Friendly staff and guests - everybody very helpful and forthcoming. Jonathan even helped us with getting onward travel tickets at a reasonable price. Even though the neighbourhood looked a bit dodgy, we felt safe there. Not exactly a family place but we knew what we're going for when choosing a hostel. A nice surprise was the complimentary breakfast at a place just around the corner. We will definitely stay there again when visiting San Jose.
This hostel rules it. Where to start? I guess the barrio, San Pedro is a good start. I love it. Its right by the university and the students i've met are so patient and fun. I've seen some awesome graffiti around the hood (which is safe), some street preformance artists, and even a huge protest the other day. I got to learn a little about the country's politics thru these happenings from Ticas and not the newspaper. So I am stoked for that. Now for the actual hostel. Its rad, super cheap, clean, tvs, group outtings, a good kitchen, really awesome and attentive staff, the other guests are of good people/company, and the free breakfast is i think the best food I've had in Costa Rica!!! They helped me get to Puerto Viejo easily and recomended a great hostel there (shout out to Rockin J's). I've come back, well this is my third time here. I'v been traveling throughout the country and had to stop in San Pedro, SJ a couple of times to rest while onn my way to the coasts. THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE while in San Jose!
