About this listing
Two bedroom house at edge of Powerscourt estate in beautiful Enniskerry; a short walk from the waterfall. Own entrance and garden, stunning countryside location featured in PS I Love You and Vikings. Heaven for walkers; on the 80 mile Wicklow Way
Beautiful countryside on the famous Wicklow Way walking trail - 80 miles of mountain walks right on our doorstep. Perfect for hikers, runners, cyclists, equestrian or wildlife enthusiasts. Favoured Irish location for international wildlife and Irish culture photographers, filmakers and journalists. Beside the picturesque Enniskerry village and 45 minutes from Dublin city. Here is a little video of the area we live in - some of these shots done within 200 metres of our house.
In the self-contained flat there your own entrance door and hallway, a large sitting room/living area, three steps down to the kitchen and dining area. Upstairs on the mezzanine level is a double bedroom with a stunning valley view from your pillow.
Down the hall there is a separate double bedroom, and large bathroom with bath and shower.
Guests have the complete flat/mews building with their own entrance. There is also a garden and small terrace for guests. Parking is shared with the main house and there is space for one car or sometimes two. This location is best served with a car - although you can walk to the waterfall and Wicklow Way directly from the house on our quiet local road. Enniskerry is 3 miles away along a busy rural road and is better driven.
Interaction with Guests
However much guests want. We are on hand for advice but let people do their own thing and check themselves in and out alone if they want - especially couples who want quiet time away. On the other hand if you want to meet the horses, ponies and dogs we do lots of chatting around the stable with guests and children adore the chance for a pony cuddle! We have plenty of tips for local attractions, hiking trails and restaurants if people wish to get local advice. Transport times, international travel recomendations or anything you request we have an answer!
Our neighbourhood is one of the most celebrated places in Ireland and appears constantly in television series, movies and advertisements both Irish, UK and American. We have had three television programmes shoot segments at our house and garden, stables and in the fields adjoining us. You will understand its appeal once you get here.
It is a rural location but 35 minutes from Dublin so hard to beat in terms of convenience to both worlds. It's a quiet, natural environment with farmland bordering onto our property. If you want to experience rural Ireland close to Dublin this is it. See (website hidden) for more information on our nearby village (5 minutes drive from the property)
We are 7 minutes drive from the motorway to Dublin (M11) at Kilmacanogue. 5 minutes drive to Enniskerry village by car and 15 minutes to Bray - a large seaside town with plenty of restaurants and entertainment. A bus service connects Dublin to Enniskerry and another service runs every ten minutes to Dublin. Dart and Luas rail services to Dublin and towns countrywide are also within 15 minutes drive of the property. We recommend you have a car to come here as its the easiest way to see the Wicklow county and move between Dublin, Wicklow and other Irish cities if you have time
Other Things to Note
You may see some cancellations in our review section where we had to take the flat off rental in Autumn 2014 for family reasons. Happily we are back up and running again and some of those cancelled bookings (automatically posted by AirBnB) are still coming to stay with us.
Check in is 2pm, check out is 12pm. This is a strict rule. Please don't arrive earlier as you will disturb other guests in situ.
We've no house rules other than behave generally you would expect us to if we were in your home. Children welcome and they tend to love the ponies! Smoking outside!
Amazing location among the rolling hills of Enniskerry, outside of Dublin city limits. Huge space to unwind, and relax. The Midcentury modern feel of the accommodation was also a huge draw. Would love to stay there again the next time we find ourselves in Ireland.
we arrived very late as we visited family in Dublin on arrival in Ireland but this was not a problem as Suzanne had told us where to find the keys. The flat was spotlessly clean and in a lovely country setting. We were going to a family wedding in Bray but it was very much out in the countryside and Suzanne gave us very detailed instructions on how to find the venue which was very helpful. Suzanne also gave us a great recommendation for a pub serving a very large Irish breakfast. Would happily stay here again.
We had a wonderful mid week break in the Wicklow mountains. Suzanne and her family were very welcoming, the house/flat was perfect for our family of 4 and the children were delighted to have other children to play with in the evening. The layout of the house is perfect for a short break and situated in a great location. We thoroughly enjoyed our few days in Wicklow.
Great place when you need a little escape from city life. The apartment was just as described and Suzanne was very accomadating with our late arrival. This was a perfect place to end our Ireland trip in a nice, cozy place in the mountains to explore nature. You will definitely need a car if staying in this location.
Welcoming, friendly and accommodating!
Philip and his family made us feel wonderfully welcome and my eldest boy was thrilled to find someone near his age to play with. The grounds are beautiful and a horse on site was a big win for the kids. The apartment is well equipped and comfortable for a family of four, and probably plenty more! Our hosts were great in advance of arrival with excellent communication, provision of a baby cot and help with planning the trip when we needed it.
The location is ideal, pretty much 30 minutes from Dublin, Wicklow, Greystones, Laragh etc. and close enough to Enniskerry for food and a quick pint. You'll need a car - it is remote but benefits from this.
If you are looking for a taste of rural Ireland, close enough to the city for the odd day trip and a base for exploring the mountains you can't go wrong with this.
Our stay at Suzanne and Phillips property was lovely. A nice isolated area outside of Dublin which was just what we wanted on this trip.
The near by town of Enniskerry is quaint and beautiful with all the necessities. There is a glorious waterfall close by to the property which we enjoyed a morning at laying in the sun and capturing some amazing photos.
The property itself is well equipped and quite large. We only stayed one night however it was lovely. It reminded me a lot of growing up around farms where you would have a cottage next door and have many sleepovers as a young kid. Having said this this would be also great for a family. The bed we used was a little on the hard side but fine for one night. The property is dated however this didn't bother us. All facilities were adequate for atlas tour short stay :) thanks Suzanne! Cheers, Pria and Blake
What a beautiful space and gorgeous surroundings! The cottage was very clean and comfortable with plenty of amenities. Philip was a delightful host and helped us with anything we needed. We met Suzanne briefly when we arrived, but sadly we never got a chance to really talk. The beds were extremely comfortable and provided a great nights rest for both myself and my son. I woke early and sat at the kitchen table watching the birds in the back yard and the pony graze outside. Just what I needed! The countryside is beautiful with sheep farms on either side and with beautiful views of the surrounding land. The Powerscourt Waterfall was so close you could walk to it and the Powerscourt Gardens were a short drive. We went to Glendalough, the monastic ruins inside of Wicklow National Park, which was free and very close-by. The history is fascinating and the ruins were very intact and surrounded by incredible scenery! On the way back to the house we ate at the Wicklow Heather, which had excellent food. The little town of Enniskerry is a short drive from the house and we had a wonderful meal at the little Italian restaurant, Emilio's. Our stay was perfect here and we would definitely come back to stay again!
About the Host, Suzanne
The area we live in is beautiful beyond belief and we hope you will find it as restful and unique as we do. Our 2.5 acres includes our main house, your mews flat and stables for horses and ponies. The mews has a double bedroom and a double mezzanine bedroom, a kitchen, livingroom and large bathroom.
Our house is on the Wicklow Way; an 80 mile series of hiking trails where you can hike uninterrupted over the mountains for 6-9 days (depending on fitness!). I'm a food and farming journalist so know the best of Irish food and countryside locations. I love travelling and travellers, and will give you any help you need on exploring Ireland and Dublin city. I've lived in Paris, Nice, Tokyo and London but my best travel experience was spent 20 years ago on the Laos/Myanmar border and perhaps on the best beach ever in Sumatra, Indonesia. Zanzibar and Syria (before the war) are also game changers for me as regards travel experiences.
As a TV producer and journalist I've also filmed and travelled pretty much worldwide. I've still not come home with a shamrock tatoo. #win
