A hidden gem, the houseboat "Harmony" in Puteaux, is a delightfully magical place to stay. Our intention - two couples in our mid 70's, was to visit Paris "old" and "new" - and the location could not have been better. Sheltered and embraced on the shoreside by beautiful maple, willow and alder tees, and beyond them, a marvelously maintained and well designed 'sports complex'... and on the other side of the boat, the serene Seine, to watch roll by the windows, and below the generous deck where we could sit, with crew-style row boats practicing their skills and rowing up and down the river. Fabulous, and so unique.
We loved the reflection of the lights on the surface of the river at night - like contrasting gold VanGogh brush strokes against the dark blue water.. amazing.
We loved how the cafes and bakeries in Puteaux were so friendly- the expected disdain for non-french fluent persons, was quite the opposite..we felt really welcomed.
The park/sports complex with strolling avenue under lovely Chestnut trees, river walk access, a formal rose garden with labels on each plant, athletes practicing soccer, rugby, on a first class field,..a bus load of young kids being coached in 'track'..
no evidence of gangs, no fears, lovely people, beautiful parks, and respect for nature and its' beauty.
With free parking, we could drive one day to Versailles, and another to Giverny. Another day we walked all the way from the boat, through the park to the Louvre, enjoying the sights along Champs Ellysee's ,and the tourists, and some of the wonderful gardens along the way, ah but the peace to be able to return to "our" lovely boat "Harmony." So much to see, and such a good location.
Though the boat deck was a feature that attracted us, and we loved sitting up there, the interior design of the boat is an architectural masterpiece - dark wood ceilings, contrasting with smooth white walls, excellent generous spaces and quite comfortable.
We absolutely hated to leave. Franck's boat has everything. All four of us would love to come back.
Very nice stay, Harmony is as good as describe and a perfect place to stay ...!
Living on a houseboat so close to the Paris city centre is a fabulous experience. The boat is wast, very well equipped and beautifully decorated. We loved our stay!
We spent 3 nights on the houseboat Sept. 11-14 while attending a meeting at La Defense and all had, thanks to Franck and his boat, the most enjoyable meeting ever.
The boat is homely, spacious and superbly equipped. Access is easy and the location idyllic. For a family or similar group visiting Paris, I cannot think of a more lovely base for one's stay.
The only bad thing was having to leave!
Frank’s boat, Harmonie, is one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. The “houseboat” is a large and completely stable barge, beautifully restored with every modern convenience. The huge deck above is a great place to watch the Seine stream by, with the occasional family of ducks along for the ride. The common living area is even nicer than it appears in the photos, with a large open plan kitchen, dining, and living area – with tons of light. The beds and bedrooms are excellent, and the bathrooms are top notch, with great shower heads -- the ipod hook up with speakers in the main shower was a hit with some. (Franck warns that the toilets need care – but that only means you can’t put anything other than waste and paper in them – they are completely normal to every other appearance). We kept thinking “this can’t be this great, there must be a catch.” But again, and again, it turned out better than even our high hopes.
The boat is a short walk to the pleasant town of Puteaux, with a supermarket, patisserie, butcher, pharmacy, etc. The boat is right next to a major sports facility, with pools, gyms, and an exceptional set of free outdoor exercise stations. We found it easiest to walk through the park/island up to the Pont de Neuilly Metro – about a 15 minute walk – and then a quick metro ride for museums and attractions. There are busses as well.
This would be a beautiful place for any number of visits. We were three teenagers, two 20 somethings, and two 55 year olds. In hotels in downtown, we’d have been three rooms, crammed on top of one another, and spending too much on every meal rather than just special ones. On the Seine in Puteaux, we had a sense of home and beauty, lots of room for each to have his or her own space, the ability to both save on food, and a daily break from the tourist hordes. Franck left great instructions and tips – the local bakery with the lines filled with locals does create a memorable warm baguette – and was completely easy to deal with. His daughter met us at the boat.
Downsides? It is a bit of a trek to get places, but that has its upsides as well. Franck’s cat may be one of the nicest cats in history, but if you are allergic to cats, even she would be a problem. It is a little tricky to find the first time; we had cab arrangement issues leaving because of poor communications with G1 Taxi (a site to be avoided), so extra care is needed on that front.
But this is a really wonderful home and extraordinary place to stay in Paris.
Our stay on the barge was wonderful! The boat provided plenty of space for my mother, two friends, and me. With 3 spacious bedrooms, 2 baths, and plenty of kitchen and living space, we were very comfortable. There was ample free parking in a secure lot next to the boat, and although the lot is locked from 11pm to 8am, the guard provided us with free parking outside the gate so we could leave early for the airport on the day of our departure. The barge is conveniently located, reasonably priced, clean, and with modern conveniences. Franck is charming and very accommodating. I hope to return soon!
The boat was the perfect accommodation for 7 young australians staying in paris for a few days. We loved exploring the city and having such a central base was crucial to accomplishing our objective
We (group of 5) were looking for a flat to stay in Paris and stumbled across this fantastic houseboat. Stay here for a unique living experience away from home. Everything you need is here – including a BBQ and speakers for you to plug in your ipod and chill to music in the evening.
This is a very spacious houseboat, with 3 double bedrooms (a TV in each), two toilets, two showers, and a large living room connected to a very cool bar area. If you don’t mind sleeping with a cat in the living room, you could comfortable fit eight people.
Upon arrival we sent Franck a text and he met us at Puteaux bridge. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and every amenity you would need for a comfortable stay. Leaving was easy too – just sent a text with the time you are leaving.
Great boat - Love what you have done with an 18th century barge. Hope to stay in it again– merci Franck
My friend and I were looking for a place to stay for a night in Paris and we found Franck's beautiful boat on airbnb. We had expected to only be able to get a small room since we were booking at such short notice. Instead we were so lucky to find Franck's airbnb page and he was very quick to respond. Franck was so gentle, helpful and kind, he even offered to pick us up in his car. We were delighted to arrive at the boat which is 180 m2, with a large deck, nicely furnished, fully equipped kitchen, large living space. For the day we even had the pleasant opportunity to stay with Franck's dog and cat who were very friendly and cuddly. Originally we had planned to go shopping around Paris since my friend was only staying for the weekend, but in the end we ended up staying on the boat most of the time, sun bathing on the deck with some rose wine that Franck had offered. Franck is a great person and an exceptional host. He has my highest recommendations and I thank him for a great experience this weekend.
