Interaction with Guests
We love to meet new guests!
We reside on the other side of the property should guests have any queries or questions, however we also like to give guests their privacy- we are very popular with honeymooners!
Peaceful and quiet, you will find yourself immersed with nature- birds, bats and deer are often seen on the property. We are away from the tourist hustle and bustle but are conveniently located just a few minutes drive from Makawao town as well as lots of Upcountry activities.
We find we are an excellent central base to explore the nearby hiking trails, farms and tourist activities.
Car is necessary.
Our stay in Makawao was so wonderful! The directions to the cottage were great and the place was adorable. It's perfect for a quieter, more private getaway and was exactly what we were looking for. The cottage was clean and cozy, and had everything we could have needed plus more - towels, basic toiletries, beach towels, a cooler, some condiments, cooking/kitchen supplies, even a Brita. It was also great to take advantage of the washer and dryer, the grill outside, and the jacuzzi tub! It's a little cooler in upcountry Maui (bring some warmer clothes), and the weather during out stay was particularly cold, but there were plenty of blankets on the insanely comfortable bed and even a little electric heater! We were really impressed by how well-equipped this place was. And the snack basket made us feel so welcome!
The location is conveniently close to Pa'ia and the north shore of Maui, so it's a great base for exploring that half of the island. There are some nice places to hike close by, as well. The views even from the cottage were gorgeous, and the surrounding land was very beautiful. We had fun saying hello to the goats too. :) Would definitely come back here if we came to Maui again!
The cottage was just as pictured, very clean, private, and, although we didn't spend a lot of time there, it felt very homey. A thoughtful gift basket of local products was much appreciated - especially since we didn't take enough food with us for our Road to Hana drive!
The bed was SUPER comfortable, and we enjoyed a good soak in the Jacuzzi tub.
The description, pictures, and reviews are all very accurate. We had a great stay and recommend it to anyone looking for a quieter, slightly-off-the-beaten-path home base while in Maui.
The house is under ten minutes driving from Makawao's very cute town center (plus another 2-3 minutes to make your way up the winding dirt driveway). Once there, the view is great, the air is fresh (and cooler--we recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater), the house is stocked (full kitchen, gift basket of goodies, large bathroom, comfortable bed, etc.), and the outdoor cats are plentiful--we saw five during our time there, though the unofficial hostess Nana was definitely the sweetest and most approachable.
This is a great spot if you're planning to head up Haleakala to watch the sunrise. The drive there is fairly short so you can sleep in a bit later! There's also very little light pollution around the house so if you have a clear night, the stargazing is incredible.
Our only minor complaint was that sounds traveled very easily through the ceiling. If anyone is in the second floor unit during your stay, expect to hear every step they take. This was a small annoyance, though, compared to all the things we very much enjoyed.
We only heard from Sharon immediately after making our reservation, but check-in/check-out was simple, and we had no need to get in touch with her during our stay.
We loved it! Sharon was a wonderful host. Her attention to detail was superb. Having a private retreat away from the hustle and bustle was just what the doctor ordered after arriving from Waikiki. In upcountry Maui, the temperature is a few degrees cooler than at sea level and there is nearly always a pleasant breeze. Truly paradise in paradise. We loved socializing with Nana the cat as we missed our kitties back home. Overall, there is nothing negative I can say about Sharon or this property. We only wish we could give more than 5 stars.
This was our first time to Maui and we couldn't have had a better experience!
The space was incredible; the view, the amenities and the quiet setting were exactly what we needed to recharge the batteries. Siobhan was very friendly throughout; before our arrival and during the one interaction we had in passing.
We used the home as a 'basecamp' to then explore all Maui had to offer. Easy to navigate and get around to all the sights and sounds of Paradise. Up at sunrise, quick breakfast/coffee, then off to destinations for the day. Back around sunset to grill out and decompress. Ahhhhh...! Would do it all over again without hesitation.
We loved the 'Upcountry' surroundings of Makawao. Komoda Bakery and The Ocean Organic Vodka Distillery Tour were awesome! Highly recommend both.
The gift basket and beach towels were much appreciated as was the washer/dryer set to do a quick load in the evening to have fresh gear for the next day's fun. The full kitchen and outdoor grill was nice to have the option of saving $$ by not eating out all the time.
Already planning for the next time we can make it over to get away from the Mainland for a bit, and would not hesitate to contact Siobhan and Geoff to see if their place is available again. Thank you so much for the kind hospitality.

P.S... Astronaut and Spaceship (the new goats) were totally cool, make sure to say 'Hello' to them! :-).
Thanks to the detailed directions and easy communication with Sharon, we found the cottage easily and were welcomed by Nana, the cat. We stayed downstairs in the Ginger Cottage. This apartment was furnished and equipped very well, lots of towels, dishes, silverware, etc. - all we needed. Also, some condiments, peanut butter and similar were left in the fridge from former guests. An electric chimney warmed the room up when it cooled down over night. The apartment and especially the bathroom is quite big, more than enough room for two. I really liked the bed, it was so soft! We have not seen our host the whole time, only the neighbours upstairs (unfortunately you hear them walk). The cottage is situated outside touristic areas, perfect when you want to have some peace and quiet. Altogether, we really enjoyed our stay there and would like to thank Sharon for her hospitality!
The apartment was wonderful. Very well kept and thoughtful. Everything we needed was right there for us - we especially found the dryer in the unit to be very helpful with towels, swimwear, etc.
The location was amazing. We loved being away from the beach scene and close to Makawao and Paia (where all the best restaurants are). Plus my fiancee fell in love with the goats next door.
Peaceful, private and beautiful surroundings. I would love to stay here every time I come back to Maui!
Mahalo Ben! It was wonderful to meet you. Happy to hear that you got to hang out with our little dwarf goats. We have two new babies arriving on Valentines Day and we're looking forward to sharing them with future guests. Hope to see you again in the future- aloha!
