About this listing
This is a cool little space smack dab in the middle of the Marigny Triangle, "the" neighborhood to be in the city these days. Only 2 blocks from the French Quarter but in a quiet neighborhood so you can actually sleep (when you want to, that is).
Compact but charming studio apartment 3 blocks from the French Quarter. One bedroom with queen size bed, full kitchen and small living/dining area.
Two televisions -- one in the bedroom and one in the living area.
My profile picture says it all -- me and the requisite glass of wine....
From our location you can walk almost anywhere -- the French Quarter is a few blocks away, and the Marigny itself is a fantastic place to explore. We have lots of breakfast cafes, restaurants, restaurants/bars and just plain bars. You'll find out where the locals go to eat, dance and enjoy our wonderful city.
I've loved being with airbnb, you airbnb guests are the best! The space is fantastically decorated if I do say so myself :) ....I have only rented by word-of-mouth up until joining airbnb, so the apartment is in excellent condition and everyone who has stayed with me has enjoyed it very much.
Although I have put the space as accommodating 2 people, in a pinch you could accommodate a third -- the loveseat in the living/dining/kitchen space opens into a twin bed. However, when the bed is open the living space is almost nonexistent....but it could work for a couple with a child or when every space is at a premium like it is during mardi gras.... but I DO require that you let me know if there is a third person.
Now as to the "pets allowed".....I have had people bring their pets....if they are well behaved, don't piddle on the floor or chew up everything they are welcome.....I have 2 English Bull Terriers on my side of the house, so you may hear a dog bark or two....
I reserve the right to approve your pet (dog) .no cats please..
Oh, and I have an automatic, natural gas-driven generator that kicks on in case of power failure....it runs the whole house..... :) Katrina be damned.... :)
For those looking for an extended stay, I am negotiable on price.
I provide things like water, coffee, cheese, crackers, granola bars --- in case you arrive in the middle of the night and are starving. I also have a hair dryer, iron and ironing board.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: although I list a 3-night minimum stay, I require a 4-NIGHT MINIMUM STAY FOR NEW YEAR'S, HALLOWEEN, CHRISTMAS, MARDI GRAS, FRENCH QUARTER FEST AND the two JAZZ FEST weekends. I am trying to figure out how to incorporate this into my airbnb info.
Note: although I have checkout by 11 am and checkin after 1 pm, I am flexible if no one is leaving on your arrival day, and vice versa. I am also happy to hold luggage should times overlap.
This is a 350 sq. ft. space designed as if it were a boat -- every square foot is used. But you still get a queen size bed and a nice size shower..... there is no back yard but you are welcome to sit on the stoop, as so many New Orleanians do.....
I provide a hair dryer, iron and ironing board. I have small single guest soaps and emergency shampoo.....
And, remember, I'm right next door should should you need anything else...we can work it out (thank you Beatles).
Interaction with Guests
I can interact as much or as little as you desire. I now have a keyless entry and will give you your personal code a day before you arrive.
This neighborhood is the Marigny Triangle -- the coolest neighborhood in the city. We have our music and food venues on Frenchmen Street, just 2 blocks from my apartment. If you want to go to the Quarter, it's just 3 blocks away.... you can walk or bicycle most everywhere.....or take a bus or trolley.
Buses on Rampart Street.....or walk to the river and take the trolley, and transfer to another trolley to go uptown.... or rent bicycles (my favorite way to get around)...
Other Things to Note
Take a cab at night. They are cheap and plentiful. The city has mandated that all cabs have GPS and accept credit cards.
Megabus now offers round trips from many cities to New Orleans - dirt cheap! Bus stop is 4 blocks from the apartment.
I am flexible as to check-in and check-out times. Except when I have a checkout/checkin on the same day. No smoking is allowed in the apartment but you are welcome to light up on the stoop :). I live in the other part of the house but you have your own separate entrance and the studio apartment is not accessible from my side. I do have dogs so sometimes they may bark; at least they sleep through the night :). Parking is on the street but not usually a problem. It is zoned parking but across the street is no zoning and you can park as long as you like.
I will have coffee, granola bars, etc. so that if you arrive starving you can have a quick snack before going out to enjoy our wonderful city. If you have certain preferences (e.g., decaf only) let me know and I'll try to accommodate. I also provide bottled water but the tap water is just as tasty.
Please do not fiddle with the television cables, I am not very good with trying to hook it back up.
Oh, and the strange doohickey plugged into the socket above the tv in the bedroom runs the cable for both your side and mine. So please do not unplug it! That way I won't miss the latest episode of Housewives :)
Making new friends is great, but don't bring 'em back to my place. NO guests other than booked guests are allowed, unless I pre-approve in advance.
Please do not apply nail polish or makeup anywhere near the bedspread or sheets.
I arranged accommodations for my parents at Connie's home in New Orleans. Although I was not staying there myself, Connie was very helpful and responsive when making arrangements, and very attentive to my parents' needs while they were there. They loved the place, and appreciated everything. There is no doubt that Connie is an excellent Airbnb host! Recommended.
We had a wonderful experience at Little Gem! Great location with wonderful amenities.
The description "little gem" is the PERFECT was to describe this space. It's intimate and felt like coming home the moment we walked in. The perfect amount of space for two (website hidden) was thoughtful enough to have coffee, tea, waters, yogurt and a staple for us - cheese and crackers! On a hot summer day, to walk into cold bottled water was a great option.
The location itself is just right! Only two blocks off of Bourbon St. and a 12 minute walk to the French Market. We did more walking then riding. The cab company suggested was there within 5 minutes when we wanted to go to the other side of the city.
The list of suggested restaurants and things to do in the city made it easy to navigate and to feel like a local. Every day we felt like coming home to our special place.
The place itself was well stocked with all of the bathroom necessities as well. I've already told at least 3 people about our stay there and hope they'll come have the NOLA experience that we did!
This apartment is in an excellent location in a quiet neighborhood adjacent to the French Quarter. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to (website hidden) was an attentive host and great about communicating with us, always quickly.
The apartment resembles the photographs and is nicely decorated in an old building.
The only downside to our stay were cockroaches in the apartment. We communicated with the host about this and she helped us as she could, but apparently this is common in New Orleans in July.
The neighborhood and location were fantastic, just minutes away from Frenchmen street with breakfast places, bars and restaurants with Live Music. The street is residential and super quiet. Top location.
It was very pleasant and the host was very responsive. Her place was very cute and looked identical to the pictures. The location was great and parking was never a problem. Will recommend to anyone.
We recently stayed in Connie's wonderful New Orleans 'gem' and it was such a pleasure. Nestled far enough away from the action but walking distance to the sights of the French Quarter - not to mention the quaint little eateries just around the corner. Connie was wonderful to deal with and the furnishings and decor are just lovely. A little home away from home!

OK, let's see.....hmmmm.....I like wine and my husband Paulo and I love New Orleans. We own two doubles and a triple in the Marigny area of the city, and are renovating another double in the Bywater. The Marigny is a cool place to live, you can walk to the French Quarter in 5 minutes, but our neighborhood is mainly residential -- no T-shirt shops with booming music -- just a pleasant mix of cafes, bars and restaurants interspersed among the historical creole cottages, singles and doubles. We live in one half of one of our doubles.
I've been with airbnb for a little while now.... and I must say that airbnb guests are the greatest!.... But I have also been renting my spaces out for years only through word of mouth. All of my guests have loved staying in our spaces. We have had the same people book for the same events year after year. I think that speaks for itself.
I have an iPhone, which means (once you book with me) you can email me or text me and I'll get it right away.
I try to keep my calendar updated....if airbnb shows it's available, it is....
