The Space

Enter through the arched stone stairwell up into this sensorial “studio” room with two diminutive French doored balconies and a grand bank of North and West windows overlooking the garden ~ great light all day long! It is completely separate from the downstairs casita studio apartment. It has it's own private entrance and is basically a one room studio apartment with it's own bathroom.
It boasts of having “THE Most Comfortable Chair I Ever Sat In” chair and a VERY COMFORTABLE Trundle bed (twin beds - one pulls out from under the other). Free WiFi, a DVD player and Purified Water are included.
The space is perfectly suited for reading, relaxing, writing, painting, collage work and other creativity. Setting in front of the wall of windows is a six-foot long work table, stools, an easel (easel not shown in photos). There is an adequate hanging closet, a four drawer dresser and lots of shelf space. The very small kitchen area includes a compact refrigerator, sink, a stainless steel electric skillet, electric tea kettle, a crockpot, Cuisinart Toaster Oven, dishes and other necessary items to allow the preparation of small scale meals.
A sweet retreat.
I am located a block south of Parque Juarez. One of the photos shows a lady with a bucket of flowers on her head - she is headed down Prolongacion de Aldama (my street) toward the Parque. It is an easy level (as level as San Miguel gets) 4 1/2 block walk to the Parroquia/Jardin/Center of town. It is very close walk to shops/markets/great restaurants and taxi's are readily available (and unbelievably inexpensive).

For location, nearby attractions/tiendas (shops/markets), more photos of the garden and other details, see my other listing on same property -" El Jardin del Ciervo Vigilante". There are two maps below which you should be able to zoom in and out to get a good idea of where you would be located. The two spaces (upstairs and downstairs) can be rented together depending on availability - contact me for working out those logistics.

  • Oh how I enjoyed my time in the light-filled art nest high over Barbara's courtyard. It was so delightful. This spot is great place to base your adventures in San Miguel out of. I stayed for a month and could have easily stayed for a year. Perhaps I'll be back! I would definitely stay in this studio again. Great water pressure, lovely courtyard, comfortable bed and even more comfortable chair - the indefatigable Joey to greet you often - and to top it off Barbara led the way to take in some lovely live music. Sublime. Highly recommended all around.

  • Super-pleasant light-filled apartment in a great location. Close to town, the Instituto Allende, and the Saturday organic market. Lovely garden. Barbara is a nice person and pleasant hostess. I really enjoyed my nine-day stay!

  • I want to come back!

Barbara's place is as magical as SMA. Located in a safe, beautiful and very well located neighborhood, I had pleasure to spend time in the patio to write, share a glace of wine and rest.

I staid downstairs, where the design is beautiful, I felt at home. Everything was perfect and Barbara did her best to be sure everything was fine (it is more than pleasant to found a basket of fresh fruits at your arrival).

Aldama is one of the best streets in the town, and I had no issue in walking in the middle of the night after a dinner or party.

I hope I will have soon the opportunity to come back, share more times with Barbara and more than everything, feel the energy of SMA and its magic.

Many thanks, et à bientôt !

  • As soon as Barbara opens the door and welcomes you into her home a feeling of peace and tranquility immediately descends upon you. It is evident that her home, garden and casitas are a labour of love. The studio apartment that I stayed in was an absolutely amazing space, like wow - what a gift! Barbara's home reflects who she is and she is as amazing as the space she has created. I highly recommend staying at Jardin Ciervo Vigilant.

  • The property is lovely as shown &described.
I had high hopes and expectations which were exceeded.
For three months this sweet casita was my cozy, comfy nest. A place where I could safely settle and unfurl. Extra points for the art
table and Joey the Wonder Dog.
Barbara is a generous and caring host and very responsive to
requests or glitches. I feel so fortunate to have found her and her
place. A thunderous applause all around.

  • Barbara, her garden, and her casita are absolute gems! Barbara was a wonderful and accomodating host whose personal touch and artistic sense are felt throughout her property. The home is in a safe area and just a short walk to el centro. The casita itself has all the ammenities one could ask for and is warm, with a artist's loft feel. Barbara leaves great instructions and is generous in her recommendations of restraunts and things to do around SMA. She was also kind enough to provide some fresh local fruits. I highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a feel of the the beauty and oasis that is behind the high walls and large wooden doors of the streets of San Miguel de Allende!

  • Jardin Ciervo Vigilante--Upstairs is a gem. The moment I entered the front door, I was greeted by beauty: a garden filled with beautiful plantings, a whimsical sculpture and a small stand of bamboo, the sounds of a fountain running along a tiny sculptured stream. Turning to the left and walking through an arch, I climbed the stairs to to enter a spacious studio to be my home for the next month. A wall of windows allowed the light of San Miguel to fill my workspace. I looked out upon the windows upon a large mural of the landscape surrounding the massive Gothic church on the hill. At night the mural was lit so its simple beauty was always in view. Doors to tiny balconies provided fresh air. What attracted me most to her place was the 6 foot work table in front of this wall of windows. It was a fabulous work space with a shelf beneath it, perfect for my writing process. .Anyone doing art would love it.

The trundle bed was simply fabulous. I loved the shower, spacious, ready hot water and a great spray. The kitchen is tiny, but serviceable and I was able to cook breakfast and a light supper. I found excellent restaurants nearby for my main meals.

Barbara is a superb owner. She was always helpful and made me feel right at home. She makes great breakfasts. Her aesthetic is creative and comfortable. The location of her place is so convenient to the main plaza and all the shopping I needed was 5-10 minutes away. I will definitely stay with her again.
