Our host, Kiran, along with his sisters, family friend, Depo, and niece, Natasha, were very helpful and welcoming hosts. They were friendly, welcoming and helped us to feel some what at home in the busy city of Mumbai. We had no hassles in the neighborhood and felt safe. There is a sense of local community in the neighborhood and gives you a real taste of life in Mumbai.
I stayed at "The Pantheon" for four nights. Everything is exactly as described. Kirans colleagues, Natasha and Depo, are truly kind, and provided much comfort. You're just a ten minute taxi ride away from the majority of attractions. For the price, I don't think you'll find a better accommodation. I will be back.
Kiran, his niece Natasha and their friends did not spare any efforts to make us feel at home. From the booking to the check out, not only where they super helpful with advice and tips but they also took out a lot of time introducing us to the city.
The maps and explanations we received from Kiran before our arrival were very detailed and we were very happy with the places he recommended. During our stay Natasha and her friends checked in with us almost daily and took us to places we never would have been otherwise.
If you want the luxury hotel experience, you need to book one, if you want to experience the city as if you really lived there with an instant community of great friends, this is the place to be!
Staying at "the Pantheon" was a fantastic experience. From the moment I began email correspondence with Kiran, he was prompt, professional, and very courteous. He even went out of his way to accommodate special requests that I had.
Upon arrival at the private room, I was met by his niece, Natasha, and her friend Depo. In some way, both of them made my experience in Mumbai. Both are extremely friendly, kind, and generous. From restaurant suggestions to just making a connection, my first experience in Mumbai will forever be linked to my chance opportunity to meet two kind souls. In fact, I so enjoyed myself, I ended up extending my stay just to spend some more time at the Pantheon in the company of Depo and Natasha (well that and my research work at the Maharashtra State Archives). I look forward to visiting the city again and staying in touch with some new friends.
On some of the basics: the bed is perfect (an American Queen-size), the bathroom has a shower and is well-maintained, the internet is extremely fast (vids can be streamed with no issues of extended buffering time), and the place is always tidy and maintained. Natasha maintained contact with me to make sure I was having a great experience - far above and beyond what she needed to do and can't thank her enough.
Highly encourage and recommend the Pantheon to all AirBnB-ers. Don't have enough kind words to express!
Communicating with Kiran was top notch and quick. I didn't meet Kiran in person, but his niece, Natasha and friend Depo were excellent hosts. Both made me feel welcome right away and provided plenty of support throughout my stay. The location is key in terms of easily getting to the most touristic spots in Mumbai. The Grant Rd station is within walking distance and can easily take you to Bandra West in the north of Mumbai or Churchgate in the south of Mumbai to explore all that Mumbai has to offer. The neighborhood is a genuine Indian neighborhood. I always felt safe and it was easy to catch a cab all the time. Overall a positive experience! Thanks for the tasty food and experience you guys!!!
Overall a good place to stay.
The room was very nice with air conditioning and almost perfect wifi. The bathroom is clean with hot water. Decent location. The bed was terrible as there is no real mattress - don't stay here if you have back problems. Nice kitchen.
Kiran was not home but his sister Natasha and her friend Depo were very welcoming and helpful during our stay. They definitely added to the stay and were readily available.
Kiran provided a map of the major attractions, good restaurants and markets. This was extremely useful which helped us plan our days.
Let's take this in two parts:
The room is nice as pictured and our hosts (Kiran's sister and friend, in Kiran's absence), are lovely people to chat with. The shower worked beautifully, particularly for Indian accommodations, and overall the apartment was kept clean. It's easy to catch a cab when there are 20 parked outside and the intersection has some street vendors and a pharmacy/chemist for quick errands.
I don't know if I can emphasize enough that the building where this flat is located is disgusting. The entryway and stairs the flat were, on all days of our stay, covered in some kind of animal feces/vomit. The stench of urine is oppressive. Paint and upkeep of the building is typical of the area, which is a less-than-ideal part of South Bombay only a few blocks from a notorious red light district. The flat had absolutely no windows or open area and thus it was very hard to even predict the time. Beyond day 1 it also felt claustrophobic. The wifi connectivity is below expectation and works on its own whim. A old TV sits at the entrance which does not work and has no area to sit an view either as the living room is covered with huge unliftable blinders.
All in all our experience was uncomfortable, the TV did not work at all, the access to the living room is complicated. There is passage on the other side of the living room windows that leads to someone else's flat and thus they can hear you and know what you are doing at any time.
This unit is extremely overpriced.
Thanks Colin for the review. I think you should've done more research before coming to Mumbai. About the premises in South Mumbai, there are mostly old buildings but they are good except that you may not find the Lavish entrances or receptions. South Mumbai has all kinds of places like in the the other parts of the world, and it is strange and unfortunate that only you ended up in a red light district. I have hosted hundreds of guests especially single women and none have faced this problem. Refer to my more than a hundred reviews.
About the Flat it does have a Window but it is kept closed as the guests use Air conditioning. Internet is high speed and is exclusively for the guests.
My offer is a budget accommodation and the amenities does not include a Television.( Only if you had read the description about the Apartment)
Most importantly you booked a Private Room not the Entire Apartment, But still you were given the access to the Whole Apartment! I don't know what are you complaining about? I am sorry that I couldn't renovate the whole building for $39 per night you paid. My Apartment is a beautiful place and the priced lowest in South Mumbai. I think you were looking for comforts of a 5 star resort in a budget accommodation. Please check the Hotels and other accommodations in South Mumbai and I am sure you'll appreciate the the Price, Cleanliness, Comfort and location of my apartment. In short I think you should book hotels or resorts not bed and breakfast on Airbnb.

Fortunately we live in South Mumbai, the best part of Mumbai. My flat is always ready for visitors. I like to keep it clean and uncluttered, such as you would expect in a good hotel space. Me and my Ali take good care of our apartment and our guests. So be our guest and enjoy Mumbai !
