Comfortable queen bed, nice people to host you, and a terrific location just above the scenic village of Cowichan Bay. Enjoy a nice morning walk to the artisan bakery below us, or a trip to the gym, or just linger and listen to the birdsong. Welcome!
Come and stay with us in our home overlooking Cowichan Bay, just south of Duncan, about 45 minutes north of Victoria and 50 minutes south of Nanaimo. We get you out of the city and into a small village on the waterfront with many interesting things to explore. Our home features terrific views over the bay, facing Mount Tzouhalem on the other side. The delightful village of Cowichan Bay is just below us but out of sight.
The room is very private, overlooking the side garden, with a comfortable queen bed, desk and closet. The room is cozy, but happily suits two people. If you need more space we sometimes can arrange that by separate inquiry. There is cable internet plus wireless into the room. You will have your own bathroom, just down the hall with soap, towels & basic shampoo provided. There is parking out front.
Our guests are welcome to share the kitchen, dining room, and comfortable living room where there is a piano, harp, cable TV and of course, a wonderful view. Sit outside on either the top or ground level deck to enjoy your morning coffee which Tom is happy to make, or an evening glass of wine.
We will provide a simple breakfast, or guests can go down to the cafes in the bay for something more substantial.
If you are visiting a child in one of the private schools in the area, we are 10-15 minutes from Brentwood college, Shawnigan Lake school and St. Margaret's in Duncan.
Activities: While you are here you can enjoy hiking on Mt. Tzouhalem, Cobble Hill mountain, or the lovely provincial park at Bright Angel, just across the highway. Shawnigan Lake is just 15 minutes away by car for a dip in clear lake water. The ocean beach is just a short walk away on the street below us where you can find live crabs, and a bird viewing platform. We have two bicycles to share. We are just steps from the hotel down the street where you can go for a swim, jacuzzi bath and a full workout in the gym for just $5 a visit.
Restaurants: If you enjoy the finer things of life, we are just above great food at the Masthead restaurant and Oceanfront hotel. For more casual dining, on the waterfront there are the Rock Cod Cafe, the Bay Pub and a few other little coffee shops right on the ocean front. Our little village at Cowichan Bay also boasts the best artisan bread, cheese and ice cream, bar none. You can also find whale watching, art galleries, gift shops and kayak lessons and rentals. There is a little shuttle boat to take you over to Genoa Bay to visit the marina and restaurant there if you want a boating experience.
We are happy hosts, willing to share information, maps, local knowledge and smiles. We welcome international visitors in our home as we are travelers ourselves. You'll come as a stranger and leave as a friend.
Guests have their own bathroom, down the hall from the bedroom, and are welcome to share the kitchen for light cooking, and use the living room.
We will share bicycles and helmets.
We don't smoke, so would appreciate guests to smoke outside only if necessary.
Guests have their own key so they can come and go.
Interaction with Guests
We'll see guests in the morning and evening. Usually we're home while guests are staying with us, certainly the first night. Sometimes we are away for part of the stay. Connie works in Victoria so often has to stay overnight there. Tom works at home out of his downstairs office so is often around during the daytime.
Cowichan Bay is semi-rural, meaning that it's a village not a city. If you go a kilometer (half a mile) in any direction, you can be at the beach, overlooking farmland, or climbing up a mountain trail. The village below us is really cute and has a lot of interesting things to explore. There is a small boat museum and our own community Nature Centre which highlights the biology of the estuary.
Public transport isn't great, most guests have a vehicle of their own. There is an hourly bus service to Duncan town just a short walk down the street. We having a parking spot for guests. Getting from the Victoria or Nanaimo airports by public transport would be difficult, but we could pick you up from the Duncan bus depot if needed.
This is a non-smoking and no pets house.
Our hosts Tom and Connie were most welcoming in every way, and the description of the room fit the bill. The neighbourhood was a gem, and it was wonderful for us to sit on their deck overlooking Cowichan Bay. Excellent coffee in the morning and Tom's home made bread, as well as a mixture of different cereals were more than enough to start our day.
Connie and Tom were great hosts to our family and went out of their way to make Theo (our toddler) feel welcomed too. Their house and garden was lovely, and their apple trees spectacular.
Connie was at work, but ensured that her husband Tom, would be home to welcome us. Tom was very welcoming and helpful. Both Tom and Connie were very engaging and made us feel comfortable in their home. Home is not as advertised, it is even better than that! Breakfast was delicious, thanks Tom for your home baked bread. Cowichan Bay itself is an attraction with great little restaurants, and we can personally recommend the Cow Cafe. Connie's home is one block from the water where the shops are located. Perfect location.
Thanks to you both for making our island stay such a great experience!

Tom was at the house when I arrived and gave me a quick tour. The room was exactly like portrayed and the bed was very comfortable. I got a bathroom all to myself and after a shower went out and ate at the pub. A very pleasant experience.
Our stay at Connie and Tom's made our night in Cowichan Bay comfortable and relaxing. They shared their knowledge of the area and provided great recommendations... The room was clean and comfortable and we were well taken care of! They are just a short walk away from the charming village of Cowichan Bay and we enjoyed walking down for dinner and looking out over the wharf. Would definitely recommend a stay here to travelers!
Our experience with Tom and Connie couldn't have been nicer. While we were both busy, we were warmly welcomed into their lovely, peaceful, beautiful home. It was a perfect provision for our journey: comfortable room, soft quality sheets on a very comfortable bed, quiet neighborhood, and view of the bay from breakfast on the deck. I will remember the treat of delectable strawberries from the garden. Even had the pleasure of playing a few tunes on piano. So fabulous to be in a home rather than a hotel. So nice to be able to walk a few blocks and be at the bay and shops. I would absolutely stay here again and look forward to getting to know Connie and Tom better. Thank you!!!

We like travelling, talking, reading, sports. Both of us enjoy meeting new people and exploring new cultures. At home we enjoy gardening, wine tasting, music and dancing. We grow flowers and vegetables and like to entertain friends and family, especially when the weather is warm and we can barbeque on the back deck. Tom's interested in politics and follows trends in many countries. We are connected to our home community here in Cowichan Bay, but consider ourselves citizens of the world. Tom's motto in life is "He scathed on thin ice". Connie's motto is "Do unto others.."
