About this listing
This is a perfect room for residents, students, and parents who are working or visiting the local hospitals or universities.
This large room is part of a five bedroom house in the desirable Oakland area of Pittsburgh. Whether you are in town for a conference, residency or an international exchange program at the university, this is the perfect choice. Guests share the kitchen and laundry facilities. Guests share a newly renovated bathroom with two other rooms on our second floor. Meet other interesting guests and get to know Pittsburgh.
We are urban beekeepers and our two hives are located on a balcony outside the Library Room. Fresh local honey to available with breakfast for your tea.
Oakland is the "brains" of Pittsburgh. It houses Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, Carlow University as well as the world-famous UPMC Medical Center. Our house is located within easy distance to all of these institutions. If that wasn't enough, we are also a stones throw from the Phipps Conservatory, Carnegie Museums and historic Carnegie Library. Stroll down to Oakland's main business district where you will find a vibrant mix of coffee shops, restaurants and bars.
Pittsburgh has seen a "green revolution" over the past ten years. Make sure to get out on the river for a kayak paddle, hike one of our beautiful city parks (Schenley Park is just two blocks our house) or ride one of our riverfront bike trails. Our house has easy access for bus, bike or car to downtown. Many direct busline stops are at the end of the street, taking you within minutes to Duquesne University and blocks from the convention center. My husband bikes to work on the Southside and loves to show visitors how to get around the city on two wheels. We have an extra hybrid bike that you are more than welcome to use while you are here to take a tour.
All guests will have access to the kitchen and laundry facilities.
We check in at the house every afternoon and provide daily cleaning service for the common areas. Coffee and tea is provided as well as basic breakfast goodies. We live in the neighborhood and are always available for questions about the house or fun places to visit in Pittsburgh. We love to host and play ambassador for our lovely city!
The Pitt/CMU shuttle stop is almost right outside our front door. Also there are buses at the end of the street that go directly downtown and to Duquesne University.
The room was great and Amy and Michael were very quick to respond to my questions, very flexible with checkin and checkout. Highly recommended!
Great place; very clean, and very easy to get to. The basic food provisions were welcome as well. Thanks for a great stay!
Conveniently located apartment that is not too long a walk from the university area. I very much enjoyed my stay there and Michael was very helpful and clear upfront about the apartment, the check-in etc.
Amy and Michael's house was warm, cozy, and homey. I found everything I needed, and had a wonderful and pleasant stay.
They were clear about how to contact them should I need them and sent me all the appropriate information beforehand.
They had city guides in the room, and it was a very cozy bed.
Michael was very helpful in telling me about how to get around Pittsburgh and what to do and see. The house was very clean and my room was homey and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. Very clean bathroom with a nice shower. My experience was good.
Amy and Michael could not have provided me with a better first time experience using this service. I was a bit skeptical about renting a room in someone's residence, but can now appreciate how this service provides more of a home feel in a hospitality setting. It was a very clean and well kept space, scattered with many little trinkets, artwork, and books that gave the house a very eclectic feel. Michael was very amicable, helpful, and informative (which eased my trip a great deal). He was also very attentive to my overall comfort and was more than willing and able to accommodate me with parking (not an easy thing in Pittsburgh) and a short extension to my stay due to a late departure. Dale, a grad student and long term bookee currently living in the house, was also very nice and a tremendous conversationalist. I would recommend their beautiful home to anyone thinking of making a trip up to Pittsburgh and I hope to count on them when I bring family up to visit me after I make my move here. Thank you Michael and Amy.
Michael and Amy are wonderful. They waited for us on the day of check-in and showed us around the area. They were extremely helpful. The house is very nice and is nicely updated. The room we booked, the library room, is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is nice and makes family travel more convenient. We loved it and will definitely stay at the house again.
