Relax in your private room with shared bath in our renovated 1897 house situated in Andy Warhol's childhood neighborhood. We are the closest airbnb to CMU/ Pitt's campus and UPMC, a quick 10-15 minute walk. WiFi available throughout the house.
This large room is part of a five bedroom house in the desirable Oakland area of Pittsburgh. Whether you are in town for a conference, residency or an international exchange program at the university, this is the perfect choice. Guests share the kitchen and laundry facilities. Guests share a newly renovated bathroom with two other rooms on our second floor. Meet other interesting guests and get to know Pittsburgh.
We are urban beekeepers and our two hives are located on a balcony outside the Library Room. Fresh local honey to available with breakfast for your tea.
Oakland is the "brains" of Pittsburgh. It houses Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, Carlow University as well as the world-famous UPMC Medical Center. Our house is located within easy distance to all of these institutions. If that wasn't enough, we are also a stones throw from the Phipps Conservatory, Carnegie Museums and historic Carnegie Library. Stroll down to Oakland's main business district where you will find a vibrant mix of coffee shops, restaurants and bars.
Pittsburgh has seen a "green revolution" over the past ten years. Make sure to get out on the river for a kayak paddle, hike one of our beautiful city parks (Schenley Park is just two blocks our house) or ride one of our riverfront bike trails. Our house has easy access for bus, bike or car to downtown. Many direct busline stops are at the end of the street, taking you within minutes to Duquesne University and blocks from the convention center. My husband bikes to work on the Southside and loves to show visitors how to get around the city on two wheels. We have an extra hybrid bike that you are more than welcome to use while you are here to take a tour.
All guests will have access to the kitchen and laundry facilities.
We check in at the house every afternoon and provide daily cleaning service for the common areas. Coffee and tea is provided as well as basic breakfast goodies. We live in the neighborhood and are always available for questions about the house or fun places to visit in Pittsburgh. We love to host and play ambassador for our lovely city!
The Pitt/CMU shuttle stop is almost right outside our front door. Also there are buses at the end of the street that go directly downtown and to Duquesne University.
Amy and Michael were perfect hosts along with their 2 daughters. The neighborhood is quiet and their home is beautiful. The room was very spacious and welcoming. My room wasn't available until later in the day but I was able to drop off my luggage into a front room while I went out to do some other things. The University and hospitals are easy walks (well, until you need to "climb" the hill up to UPMC - Montefiore) with lots of restaurants in the Forbes Street area. I was also very comfortable with walking after dark in the entire area which I did both nights I stayed. Perfect location for my needs for the couple of days I was in Pittsburgh.
Amy and Michael were the most amazing hosts! This was our first time using airbnb and we can only hope all places are a good as there's. The room was clean and comfortable and just as pictured. The neighbourhood felt safe even walking around at night. Amy and Michael really went above and beyond, offering us a lift too and from the bus station, giving us lots of tips for what to see and do around town and even offering us apples they picked themselves for our ride home. Thank you so much for the lovely stay, we really enjoyed Pittsburgh thanks to you guys!
Amy and Michael were once again wonderful hosts. Even though we arrived mid-day on a Friday, Michael was able to meet us and help us carry in our things. The room was ready and was just as comfortable as the other room we stayed in the last time we were here. We are already looking forward to staying with Amy and Michael again when we come back in December to bring our daughter home for Christmas.
Amy and Michael are the best host you can imagine. They are nice, warm, and extremely helpful. The room is very clean. Everything is at least as good as described, sometimes better. They made my stay at Pittsburgh much better, and it feels like living with my own family.
Our host Michael was extremely helpful. He was very accommodating to allow us in in an odd hour. The place is very well maintained. He gave us full freedom and we felt homely. We could also borrow his bicycles...he also gave full access to his kitchen...in short it was a really wonderful experience staying with Michael...Thanks a lot for being such a good host...
I was familiar with the neighborhood and selected Amy and Michael's place based on their location as well as the amenities they offered.
Everything was as expected and I had a very quiet and comfortable stay. My hosts weren't at home, but they made me feel very welcomed with their notes, instructions, tea, coffee, bagels, toast, fruit, etc. I'd highly recommend this property to those seeking a relaxing, quiet, comfortable, and affordable stay close to the major universities (CMU and Pitt) in town.
I had a very nice stay at Amy & Michael's home. I was in town for a conference and as it turned out, all of the other house-guests--including Michael!--were also attending the conference. Amy was out of town, but Michael was a great host on his own. Though my room was not ready upon check-in, Michael was quick to change it as soon as he was home and was very accommodating. I even got to enjoy breakfast in the morning with him and his two -very polite- daughters. The neighborhood was walkable, not far from Schenley Park and restaurants, and very near to some of the city's bike trails.
