Stay in a country Doctor's century home in rural Ontario, as one of our guests said, “Walking in the door to the Doctor's House is like entering the portal to another era. The décor and attention to detail sweep you back to the feeling and charm of a younger Canada in it's beginnings. The Doctor's House is really a home with a welcome in every room.”

We serve home cooked local organic, where possible, food and cater to special diets such as gluten free, vegetarian, diabetic, etc.

Our specialty is Bavarian Pancake made with locally grown and milled flour and served with local maple syrup and a fresh fruit and yogurt cup. We use fresh roasted free trade coffee and a special Earl Grey tea.

We are near the best beaches and sunsets in the world, take a walk on trails through the Niagara Escarpment a UNESCO World Biosphere reserve, or if you are more energetic, you can hike the Bruce Trail, which runs along the edge of the escarpment and gives spectacular views of Georgian Bay one of the largest fresh water bays in the world. It is so large most people think of it is a separate lake but it is really part of Lake Huron.

If you like waterfalls then we have many that are just a short walk from your car or some that you have to hike to through some very scenic countryside.

If wine is your choice, then it might surprise you that we have a number of excellent wineries in our area, but if beer is more to your taste we also have some excellent craft breweries.

We are located between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay in the Famous Great Lakes recreation and tourist area.

Dive or take a glass-bottom boat cruise in the Fathom Five National Park at Tobermory.
Boat cruise to Flower Pot Island where you can tour the lighthouse and hike the island.
Hike to the Grotto in the Bruce Peninsula National Park (this is a beautiful cave).

We are also near 15 distinctive lighthouses and marine heritage sites, many local markets, great fishing, canoeing, and kayaking in the many rivers and lakes, excellent cycling, museums and several golf courses.

In the winter we have some of the best snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and ice fishing. We also have dog sledding in the area.

Great place to celebrate special events such as, weddings, family reunions, women's or wellness retreats, special birthdays and anniversaries, etc.

For an excellent family activity, we have the EXPLORE THE BRUCE ADVENTURE PASSPORT that sends you to very interesting places in our area. When you find 7 out of the 12 listed, you will receive a tee shirt. All of this is FREE.

If you are looking for beaches, adventure, exploring or peace and quiet, this area has it all.

  • My best friend Laura and I stayed with Miriam only for one night - we wish we could have stayed longer! This beautiful home is centrally located between the major outdoor activities of the region. We felt fortunate to have found a perfect location for our trip. Miriam was extrtemely helpful in recommending places to canoe, hike, swim, eat etc. The house and property are really beautiful and we woke up to a delicious breakfast in the morning - thanks for the great weekend!

    Response from John And Miriam:

Thanks Amrit. Did you get to go canoeing okay and did you enjoy it. We hope you can make it back soon to enjoy more adventures. Miriam

  • As other reviews here have mentioned, the Doctor's House is a very charming, inviting and comfortable place to stay. Miriam was a very warm and friendly host, and spared no time or effort in helping us figure out an itinerary and giving us a low-down on organic farming in the area.

Speaking of food, Miriam is a GREAT cook and the Bavarian pancake was amazing :) Our room was very cosy and we definitely had no problem getting (several) good nights (and afternoons, and mornings) rests ;)

  • John and Miriam are awesome hosts. They were able to accommodate my boyfriend and I with minimal notice and they were incredibly prompt responding to our inquiry. Their B&B is an amazing old actual doctor's house located within easy driving distance of Sauble Beach, Tobermory, Owen Sound and a bunch of other interesting areas. Each room has a theme and the beds are fantastic. John and Miriam gave us several resources for the surrounding areas, they were knowledgeable about all of the places we were thinking of going to and they gave us a lot of good advice. Miriam made delicious, locally-sourced breakfasts each morning and they both entertained us with stories. i would highly recommend staying with them.

  • John and Miriam were very warm and hospitable. My wife & I stayed at their B&B for a couple nights and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them. They have a treasure of knowledge of the Bruce Peninsula and the surrounding area and shared with us hidden gems in terms of places to see and things to do that few people would know. And then, the icing on the cake was Miriam's delicious Bavarian pancake! She was so kind to accommodate our gluten-free diet request. The long breakfast discussions with both John & Miriam on a myriad subjects were delightful. Our heartfelt thanks to both for making our stay so comfortable and welcoming. Would we recommend the place to others? Absolutely!
