Public bus is the best option ( a great way to learn the local ways). We are a 30-minute bus ride to Perez Zeledon, and a 3 hour bus ride to the capital city of San Jose. The closest beach is 1 hour away on bus. A car is also a good option to get around the area faster. Rentals are available. Motorcycles are definitely encouraged. This is the best way to get around Costa Rica. Bikes are also a good option if you want to ride the surroundings. It is very cheap to get around.
