This is a really light, sunny attic flat right in heart of Madrid in the popular Anton Martin/Lavapiés area. The area is very lively and multicultural so it's great for eating out and has loads of interesting bars and pavement cafes. The flat is close to two metro stops (Lavapiés and Antón Martín), several bus routes and not far from Atocha train station. It's also within really easy walking distance of:
- the Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen-Bornemisza art museums;
- Plaza Mayor, Gran Vía and la Puerta de Sol (for shopping and site seeing)
- La Casa Encendida and the Circo Price (just down the road)
- the Retiro (a park well worth visiting)
- the Rastro (Madrid's lively Sunday flea market)
- Plaza Santa Ana and Calle Huertas (nightlife and tapas)
The flat has lots of charm (sloping ceilings, wooden beams, traditional tiled floor, rooftop views) but (unlike lots of attic flats in Madrid!) the ceilings are high so you have lots of headroom. It's very quiet (despite the central location) and though it's not huge (50m2), it feels spacious and is very comfortable. The bedroom is large and there is loads of storage. There's a double bed in the bedroom, a big sofa bed in the lounge and the possibility of an extra single (fold out) bed if needed. It has a fully equipped kitchen, TV and WIFI. AND HAS AIR CON! The only thing it doesn't have is a lift (like lots of buildings in the centre of Madrid) but we can give a hand with bags if necessary (it's 4 floors).
Families are welcome - let us know if you need any lego!
The flat was our first home together so it is much loved! Most people who see it fall in love with it, so we're confident you will too! We'll also do our best to make you feel at home.
[Late check-in (after 10pm) 25€ surcharge.]
Be considerate of the neighbours (no parties)
Turn off the heating/air con when you're not in
Take rubbish down after 8pm and leave in the bin outside the front door
No smoking please
No animals allowed
Our weekend in Madrid was wonderful, and Anna's apartment is located in amazing neighbourhood! We enjoyed the bars and restaurants just around the corner, and it was extremely easy reaching it from Atocha. We have been warmly welcomed with a tasty cake and a lot of useful information on the activities for the weekend. Highly recommended!
We had a great time at Anna & Pablo's flat. Pablo met us outside and showed us in. Our 3 girls slept in the large room- with more than enough room to spare. They were happy, too, to have the TV in their room (so they could watch their shows in the morning before we woke up). My husband and I slept on one of the most comfortable sofa beds I can remember (and we've slept on many, many sofa beds).
The apartment was, as promised, light filled- which is a wonderful commodity in any city. It was also very quiet and yet central to a majority of the things we did- Prado, Reina Sofia, Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor, etc. we walked everywhere from our apartment.
We were very near to 2 different metro lines, Lavapiés and Anton Martin, as well as numerous cafes, restaurants and markets (there is a good-sized Carrefour next to the Lavapiés stop).
This was one of the first true Spring-like weekends of the year so the Lavapiés was hopping-- Indian, Mexican, Spanish and other different restaurants were filled with sunglasses, tank tops and people happy to shed their winter layers.
We also had a cake which was so good that I asked for (and received) the recipe from Anna. My girls woke up just for that cake--another note- the tap water is amazingly delicious. Bring bottles to fill!
The kitchen had everything we needed for breakfast and snacks ( we ate late lunches out and didn't need much at night to tide us through). We appreciated that there were supplies in the kitchen (some coffee, sugar, jam, etc.) as well as supplies in the bathroom.
Although we didn't think we'd need the washing machine, we were grateful since we had an accident and needed to use it and the hanging rack (which i wish i had in my home).
Anna's husband met us at the flat as promised (and brought us a delicious cake Anna made). The flat is super cute (exposed ceiling beams!) and has a lot of natural light- photos online are definitely very accurate. It was the perfect location for our visit to Madrid: 10 min. walk from Atocha main train station (25 min. direct train from airport T4), 10 min. walk to Puerta del Sol/ Plaza Mayor, bars in Chueca, tapas on Cava Baja, etc. Lively neighborhood! Subway station and grocery stores were close by. Gym was also close by for 8-9 euros a day. As Anna said on the site, the flat is on the 4th floor- but we didn't mind the stairs at all.
The location is perfect. Everything is within walking distance. There are a
lot of cafe, restaurant and grocery stores in this area. The room is cosy and clean. Could not ask for more.
The host Pablo was very friendly and helpful in showing me around the flat. They left a cake for us on our arrival. It is situated in a lively area not too far from the centre with many places to eat out or go for drinks nearby. The flat itself was in very good condition and had all amenities you would require during your stay. The interior is beautiful and there are nice rooftop views on a clear day. I had a great stay and would advice potential bookers to not let this one pass you by unnoticed.
We're Pablo and Anna. Pablo is a graphic designer who runs his own studio in Madrid and Anna... well, at the moment, she looks after our three kids, but she used to work in film & TV. She was born in the UK but has lived in Spain for 20 years. Pablo is a 'Madrileño' but has lived all over Spain.
We love old houses, mountains, peace & quiet and rural living (until recently, we lived in the mountains near Granada in the south of Spain) but now, we're firmly back in the hustle and bustle of Madrid.
Anna loves theatre and spends the summer running workshops for the kids in the village where we used to live (Pablo usually gets roped in as an actor!). She also loves cooking (she bakes LOTS of cakes), walking and curling up with a good book. Pablo likes painting, drawing & all things design-related. (He's also really good at stuff like paper folding). When he's not being creative he likes watching the world go by from a terraza.
The flat we are renting out was our first home together (where we had our first baby and where we were really happy). Most people think the flat has a great vibe about it (and we couldn't agree more!) - we hope you enjoy your stay.
