About this listing
This is a really light, sunny attic flat right in heart of Madrid in the popular Anton Martin/Lavapiés area. The area is very lively and multicultural so it's great for eating out and has loads of interesting bars and pavement cafes. The flat is close to two metro stops (Lavapiés and Antón Martín), several bus routes and not far from Atocha train station. It's also within really easy walking distance of:
- the Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen-Bornemisza art museums;
- Plaza Mayor, Gran Vía and la Puerta de Sol (for shopping and site seeing)
- La Casa Encendida and the Circo Price (just down the road)
- the Retiro (a park well worth visiting)
- the Rastro (Madrid's lively Sunday flea market)
- Plaza Santa Ana and Calle Huertas (nightlife and tapas)
The flat has lots of charm (sloping ceilings, wooden beams, traditional tiled floor, rooftop views) but (unlike lots of attic flats in Madrid!) the ceilings are high so you have lots of headroom. It's very quiet (despite the central location) and though it's not huge (50m2), it feels spacious and is very comfortable. The bedroom is large and there is loads of storage. There's a double bed in the bedroom, a big sofa bed in the lounge and the possibility of an extra single (fold out) bed if needed. It has a fully equipped kitchen, TV and WIFI. AND HAS AIR CON! The only thing it doesn't have is a lift (like lots of buildings in the centre of Madrid) but we can give a hand with bags if necessary (it's 4 floors).
Families are welcome - let us know if you need any lego!
The flat was our first home together so it is much loved! Most people who see it fall in love with it, so we're confident you will too! We'll also do our best to make you feel at home.
[Late check-in (after 10pm) 25€ surcharge.]
Be considerate of the neighbours (no parties)
Turn off the heating/air con when you're not in
Take rubbish down after 8pm and leave in the bin outside the front door
No smoking please
No animals allowed
It was my first visit to Madrid - I came with my daughter (age 17) to explore the city and meet up with my other daughter who was working as an au pair.
Anna replied very quickly to the booking and sent us clear information about getting to the apartment from the airport.
We were welcomed by Anna's friend Sara, who showed us around the apartment and gave us a 'welcome' book of how things worked and where to visit, eat, shop...everything we needed!
The apartment is lovely and looks just like the photos. The beds are really comfy ( including the sofa bed ) and the kitchen has everything you'll need. The air conditioning was a saviour...Madrid was hot!
Lavapies and it's cafes, bars and shops was just down the road and it was easy to buy snacks or stuff for a picnic lunch/supper when we wanted to.
Eating out in Madrid - and in this area- is easy ( except for having to actually choose somewhere!) Our Spanish is pretty rubbish, but it was never a problem and everyone we met was so friendly.
The apartment is near two metro stops ( Anton Martin and Lavapies) so it was simple to get around, but actually, we walked loads too.
Anna put up an extra bed for my au pairing daughter so that she could stay one of the nights with us - we went to Malasaña ( on the metro ) and people watched, ate delicious food, practiced our Spanish and got back late...lovely!
And when I foolishly lost a key and couldn't get back into the apartment, Anna sorted that out too...with the help of her friend Sara.
Although the apartment is in a busy area, it wasn't noisy - we heard a little 'background' noise, but nothing that disturbed us or stopped us sleeping. It's a really interesting area...full of people from different places which means that shops, bars, restaurants and cafes offer just about everything! It's vibrant, friendly and safe....we walked around late at night and never felt uncomfortable in the slightest.
All three of us loved the apartment - we had plenty of room and it was easy to feel properly at home there. All of us decided that we could definitely live there...and I'd be super fit because of the stairs!
Thank you Anna...we loved it and hope to come back ( and we've told all our friends how fab it is too).

My wife and myself went to Madrid with our two babies to attend a wedding. We arrived a couple of days before the wedding to be able to visit Madrid. As from our experience we believe that Anna's apartment is a very good option to visit the town. It is located in the city center, at walking distance from the main places of touristic interest and from the paths where walking is nicest in the evening. The apartment is cute and there is really everything you may need. We were there in July and air conditioning was perfectly working.
We did not unfortunately have a chance to meet Anna in person because she was out of Madrid due to work reasons, but she arranged everything perfectly - a friend of hers was in the apartment waiting for us when we got there and she explained us everything. Anna has always been very responsive and we are grateful to her as she helped us with information about where to find gluten-free food - my second baby suffers from celiac disease.
Thank you Anna& Pablo
Central and bright in a very vibrant cosmopolitan part of Madrid. We enjoyed our stay and were made to feel welcome by our hosts.
We enjoyed our stay in Anna's apartment. The arrival and departure worked very well. The apartment has lots of charm, and is in a great area - very central and with good restaurants and a great little market nearby. The air-conditioning was a real plus, as it was very hot in Madrid when we were there. Questions I asked Anna via text message were answered immediately and helpfully. Her recommendation of an English-speaking hairdresser was very useful, as I really needed a haircut! So a great place to stay!
We just spent one fantastic month in this lovely apartment and felt so lucky! Lavapíes is such a fun and vibrant area to stay (&play!) and there are so many really great spots to grab drinks and tapas at every turn. We loved being so close to both the Reina Sophia(10min) and Prado(15min) and walking distance to all areas of town. Madrid is so amazing and Anna's place is the perfect home base. The apartment was bright, clean and spacious with everything you might need. Anna and was so helpful pre and post arrival and our check in/out went seamlessly. Can't wait to return!
We had a very nice experience at Anna's. Perfect for a trip with friends : we were four, each one of us had a bed, the place was clean and pleasant and the location in Madrid is just perfect. Anna had the kindness to make a cake for us (awesome !) and to leave some tips to visit Madrid. She was very accommodating with everything. People who have trouble to sleep may find the street slightly noisy on week end nights (as for me, I guess that for central Madrid it is quiet enough) and the single beds are definitely reserved to heavy sleepers like us :-)
About the Host, Anna
We're Pablo and Anna. Pablo is a graphic designer who runs his own studio in Madrid and Anna... well, at the moment, she looks after our three kids, but she used to work in film & TV. She was born in the UK but has lived in Spain for 20 years. Pablo is a 'Madrileño' but has lived all over Spain.
We love old houses, mountains, peace & quiet and rural living (until recently, we lived in the mountains near Granada in the south of Spain) but now, we're firmly back in the hustle and bustle of Madrid.
Anna loves theatre and spends the summer running workshops for the kids in the village where we used to live (Pablo usually gets roped in as an actor!). She also loves cooking (she bakes LOTS of cakes), walking and curling up with a good book. Pablo likes painting, drawing & all things design-related. (He's also really good at stuff like paper folding). When he's not being creative he likes watching the world go by from a terraza.
The flat we are renting out was our first home together (where we had our first baby and where we were really happy). Most people think the flat has a great vibe about it (and we couldn't agree more!) - we hope you enjoy your stay.
