About this listing
Welcome to Anchorage! Located near the airport, our home is the perfect starting point for your Alaskan adventure. Whether you are exploring Anchorage or are launching your dream vacation around the state we offer a clean and comfy base of operations
The entire bottom floor of our home hosts private entrance, bedroom suite, and private bath. Our laundry facilities are downstairs, other than that, the downstairs is yours. Mini fridge, microwave and coffee/tea right outside your bedroom door. Snacks, waters and juices for you as well. You may choose to start your morning alone or you may want to join us for your coffee or tea. We are most often outside, in the garden.
The media room, also downstairs, is shared with host (primarily between 9:00AM and 10:30AM Mon. - Fri.) and has cable TV with HBO and Showtime, XBox, Blueray player and plenty of movies. Treadmill and small dumbbell's are available in this space.
High speed, wireless internet, desk and printer also make this quiet space ideal for business travelers.
Garden setting on lower deck, hot tub and screened chiminea. Family friendly with playset in yard for the little ones.
The bedroom suite features a Queen bed with space in the adjoining room with no door (why it is called a suite) for our luxury air mattress to accommodate 2 more for a total of 4 people. We will, and have, accommodated 4 adults in the suite but this is mostly in consideration of parents traveling with their children. The room is also very dark. It is built into the ground on the sleeping side so it is very helpful for travelers to catch a bit of darkness.
Shared laundry. Please do not start your laundry before 8:00AM or after 9:00PM. Folks are sleeping.
Smoking permitted outside and away from entry.
Be advised, the map sometimes shows our location as downtown but we are not located downtown, we are in Spenard. More specific is Spenard Road and Northwood Drive.
On most occasions we will be here to greet you. We live on site so we will definitely see you at some point. Jerry, Margit and son Jensen are excited to have the chance to make new friends.
Because we are so close to the airport we see a lot of over-night guests beginning or ending their Alaskan adventure. If you arrive late or leave early the private entrance makes slipping in and out quietly a breeze.
Private entrance and parking enough for Motor home if you are either starting or ending your Alaskan adventure.
Guests have access to our hot tub, outdoor grill, greenhouse, high-speed internet, cable television, exercise equipment, laundry and snacks!
Interaction with Guests
Due to the house set up, you may have as little or as much interaction with us as you like.
We are a small family who enjoy meeting new people. Stay here at the right time and you may get to meet our friends and family over a salmon or halibut dinner!
We love Spenard! There is so much history here. Spenard started as it's own town separate from Anchorage. The road from Anchorage to Spenard followed a moose trail originally and it was the place you traveled to be relieved of your hard earned money be it through gambling, drinking or spending quality time with a new friend, if you know what I mean. ;-) We are a five minute drive from the airport. A 15 minute walk to the Saturday neighborhood Farmer's Market. 3 minute walk to the bus stop. The Fancy Moose Bar and Grill is a ten minute walk and their patio is right on Lake Hood, the busiest small aircraft water airport in the country. There are great restaurants like the Spenard Roadhouse and Bear's Tooth Grill as well as live music venues like the Taproot nearby.
We are a 2 minute walk to the bus stop. We are a three minute walk to moped and motorcycle rentals at MotoQuest. We are a ten minute bike ride to the coastal trail. We are located near major thoroughfares (as major as you get up here, lol) to get you downtown, up the hill for hikes or out of town to the north and to the south.
We live here with our 4 year old so our desire is to have the noise under control by 10pm. If you spend time at a local watering hole we are not interested in receiving additional guests to keep the party going. Please limit your treadmill use and clothes washing and drying to the hours of 7:00am to 9:00pm.
MARGIT, JERRY, AND JENSEN WERE DELIGHTFUL. My husband, son, and I hit it off with them right from the start. FIRST, I would recommend them to ANYONE AND EVERYONE, but especially to those with children, looking for kind, down-to-earth people. Margit is very sweet and knowledgeable. My husband wasn't feeling well and she extended gracious hospitality. Jerry is super cool and easy to talk to! They are a power couple who are committed to making sure you have a great time in Alaska! STAY HERE IF YOU WANT EXPERT TIPS ON FISHING. Their son Jensen is a sweetheart and very loving. Their yard is beautiful and their space is IMMACULATELY CLEAN. We loved that we could block out the sun when we needed to sleep through long daylight hours. They are respectful, considerate, and go above and beyond to include you as if you are part of their family or close friends. If you are not into that, they are respectful and considerate of that too! As a crashpad or as a place to make new friends, this is the place to stay. We stayed for 5 days and never wanted to leave. Pick their place over any hotel and you won't be sorry.
We were made to feel very welcome! Margit greeted us and told us where to find everything we needed. Her suite is very nice, spacious and private from the rest of the house. In the morning we had a nice visit with Margit and her husband in her beautiful back yard.
My hosts Margit and Jerry ere terrific and made me feel welcome in my private suite and their beautiful backyard!
I am an alaska tour guide and had studying and paperwork to do, so having this spacious place was perfect!
Margit suggested walking to the newly-upgraded Lakefront Hotel (old "Millenium") and it was a highlight to have a drink and seafood tacos on the outside patio and watch the float planes take off and land right in front of me!
Jerry, your salmon was the "bomb"!!!
Thanks for a terrific stay!
Our flight was delayed and we ended up getting in at 3:30am. Margit was in contact with us the whole time, and left a key since we were so late to arrive. The suite downstairs is very cozy and comfortable. There is a bedroom, office area, bathroom, and den. They had coffee, tea, and cereal out for breakfast. This would be a great place to call home base to do day trips from while in anchorage. They have a beautiful backyard full of flowers and you can sit and have your coffee in the green house. It was a short stay for us, but we enjoyed it!
Margit and her family were wonderful. They treated us like old friends, even inviting us up for cookies and in the morning for pancakes! This was the perfect place to stay with our 15 month old. Our sons played outside with the many toys. They had a pack n play set up for us in the office. There is a curtain between the rooms which was vital in getting our son to sleep. The accommodations are very nice, so much nicer than a hotel. The gardens and decorations are straight out of pinterest and gave me some great ideas. Wonderful stay, we will be back. Thanks Margit!
Everything was just perfect. The house and the garden are so beautiful. The room is spacious, very clean and has a private bathroom. Margit and her family are so lovely. We stayed only one night but we wished to stay longer. I highly recommend this accomodation.
We were welcomed warmly and the accommodations were very comfortable, attractive, and private. It was a short taxi ride from the downtown Alaska railroad depot and within close walking distance to several car rental agencies, which worked out very well for us. Our stay was short but provided us with a quiet and relaxing place to unwind after long day. We felt we had a suite, rather than just a room, with access to a study/sitting room, as well as a large living room with a large screen TV. Use of the laundry facilities was also offered as well, an added bonus. Breakfast foods provided were very basic but adequate. All in all, a great experience and value in Anchorage.

About the Host, Margit
My husband, Jerry, and I have lived in Alaska for years. Together with our 4 year old, Jensen, we have loved Spenard for years. We enjoy travel and meeting new people. We like taking part in outdoor Alaska as well as events around town. My husband is an avid fisherman and my son and I are always happy to join. I consider myself a bit of a foodie and often plan trips around our next meal!
