The space
[UPDATED ON April 19, 2021]
This room is private with a queen bed, locking doors, wireless internet, an independent thermostat, a dresser, a closet, and fresh clean sheets and towels. The room is attached to a shared hallway. There is a bathroom across the hall you will share with one other guest room if it is occupied. There are two upstairs bathrooms also available to use.
The llama and sheep pasture is connected to the room window, so you can feed them by hand through the window if you like! We will provide their special food.
We have an outdoor hot tub, several ponds, a cedar sauna, decks, a fire pit, outdoor tables, and gorgeous views. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the spaces at all hours, with respect at night for those who may be sleeping. Quiet hours between 10 pm and 8 am. Smoking is permitted in outside areas. Hot tub use will be coordinated with other guests to allow for sanitation in between uses.
The kitchen is shared, we are a vegetarian house hold and while you are free to eat meat I ask that you don’t cook it in our kitchen.
We have a vegetable garden, pond, orchard and ornamental gardens to enjoy. The home and grounds are shared with dogs ranging in size from 8 to 140 pounds. Our dogs aren't allowed in guest rooms, and we do have dog free common space, but an appreciation of canines is necessary.
We have 7 dogs, 14 Shetland sheep, Nigerian dwarf goats, 2 llamas, 3 barn cats and a mixed flock of chickens, ducks, a turkey and a peacock. The animals can be viewed from the main yard. We can give you a quick tour of the barn and animals if time permits. It is not unusual to see coyotes, deer, eagles, snow geese and herons from the house. In the spring, there is a symphony of birds during the day, and thousands of frogs croaking at night!
Guest access
Before booking, please read house rules to make sure it will be a good fit for your stay. If you’d like to bring a pet, please read our pet policy below.
Any pet must be cleared in advance. Basic criteria is: spayed/neutered, older than 9 months, flea free, sociable and well behaved. Your dog can be in your room and have access to be off leash in our very large, fully fenced yard. My dogs like making new friends, but we can also keep them separate if necessary. Please do not plan to leave your dog alone in your room. If he/she is very comfortable here and we are home you may be able to leave your dog with us when you go out.
During your stay
I will be present to greet you and give you a quick tour of the house and grounds. I am here 90% of the time, but its a big place... If you don't see me, just text any questions or concerns. I love to visit with guests if there is time, but also, your privacy is respected.
Other things to note
Please drive all the way to the end of Blackbird lane to our parking area, choose spot one or two, then come in through the holding gate to your left, this helps make sure our dogs don’t spill out into the neighbor hood. If we are unable to greet you, I can give you specific details on how to find your way to your room. If you are bringing a pet, please let us know in advance. I will try to have your dog meet ours one by one so your dog won’t be overwhelmed meeting the whole pack at once! If you have young children who are very excitable, or have trouble minding, may not be a good fit for this farm. There are hazards for small children with multiple ponds and many animals, you will need to stay with your children at all times. Many 3 and 4 year olds love the farm and animals so much they refuse to leave when it’s time! I enjoy guest of all ages, if people love animals, they usually love being here as much as I do.
