The Donkey House is situated only 12 minutes drive from the centre of Leonidio.
Inside are twin beds, storage, fully fitted kitchen with oven and hob, bathroom with walk-in shower, washing machine, coffee machine and lots more!
Please note that there is no parking space at The Donkey House, however the nearest car park is only a 2 minute walk away. There is also a larger car park at the entrance to the village.

The space
This modernised village house is in a wonderful spot, within the Natura 2000 conservation area, and nestled on a spur overlooking the mountains and the sea. The house is in a very peaceful setting, where you can unwind and relax, but also it's a short drive to Leonidio with its shops, tavernas and bars. The studio is very comfortable with everything you need for a short or longer stay. Step out onto the patio area to eat your breakfast or evening meal. Just lovely!
We have WiFi access at The Donkey House and almost all the Bars and Tavernas in the locality have Free WiFi. However the mobile phone signal at the house is poor.

Pragmatefti
The Donkey House is located in Pragmatefti village in the eastern Peloponnese region of Greece, and within the Natura 2000 conservation area. This small traditional village can be found one kilometre off the main coastal road between Athens and Leonidio. It stands on a rocky spur, 450m above sea level which runs down from a craggy hillside to the west and offers superb views eastwards across the Myrtoan Sea towards the Argolis peninsula and the islands of Hydra and Spetses. Not surprisingly, Pragmatefti is a ‘protected’ village.
The landscape of the Leonidio area is coastal mountains and is quite dramatic with colourful red rock cliff faces along the rims of many steep faces. The lower slopes are largely covered in quite dense Mediterannean woodland with small stands of pine trees. Inland, pine forest predominates with altitude, with more open countryside on the higher peaks and plateau. In complete contrast, the plain between Leonidio and the sea is covered by very productive intensive farming with market garden produce (tomatoes, aubergines etc) and citrus fruits being produced.
Shops: There is a small shop in the village, immediately uphill from the church. This sells some basic needs (household basics, beer, some tinned and packeted foodstuffs) as well as serving Greek coffee and frappe. Otherwise, a good selection of shops can be found in Leonidio (15 minutes drive). Here there are two supermartkets, the first being on the left as you enter the town. There are two fuel stations actually within the town (one has bike and motorcycle hire). Two other bigger fuel staions are found on the road between Leonidio and Plaka.
The main car park in Leonidio is on the south side of the town, near the river. As the streets of the town itself are narrow and sometimes busy in summer, some drivers (especially of larger vehicles) use a short cut to reach the main car park; about 0.5km before reaching Leonidio from Pragmatefti, take a turn off on the left signposted Plakka… this leads through the river bed (it’s dry!) to reach the Plakka-Leonidio road and then turn right to get to the town’s main car park.
Tavernas: There are many, reasonably-priced tavernas throughout the region. The nearest are at Sampatiki (5 mins drive/25mins walk) and Manoleas Taverna at Livadi (7 minutes drive)
Beaches: Most of the beaches in this area have beautiful clean water and the beach material is usually small pebbles. Try Tyros, a small friendly resort 15 minutes drive to the north, Sampatiki harbour (the nearest beach), Lakkos, Plakka and Plakka harbour as well as Poulithra. All these have small beach bars and/or tavernas. For special occasions, try the tavern at Sampounakaiika (near Tyros).
Walks: A pleasant short walk starts at the Donkey House itself and follows the track around the hillside through the olive groves (return is by the same path). Also starting from the village is the ancient donkey track (or kalderimi) leading out of the top edge of the village up the church on the skyline (15 minutes). The walk can be extended along another ancient trail to the neighbouring village of Melana with a circular return via country lanes though Livadi.

Hello. Both me and my husband, Carl, are rock climbers and mountain walkers. We live in the UK but visit our house in Greece as often as possible. We’ve travelled around Europe for many many years. But Greece is where our heart is. We’ve lived on the island of Kalymnos in the past but moved to Pragmateftis in 2018 after visiting the Leonidio area for climbing and walking.
We feel very lucky to have found our little house in the beautiful village of Pragmateftis and especially the ‘old stable’ which we converted into what you now see as “The Donkey House”.
We have loved working on the house and garden and hope that you enjoy your time in the peaceful surroundings of the house, garden and village. The sea view is spectacular.
