About This Listing
This is a great space for groups and families, with 2 adjacent bedrooms and access to all living spaces, kitchen and laundry. In 2015 I installed new solid hardwood and marmoluem floors.
Public transportation and freeway access are close by.
King bedroom with dresser and closet. (Will be replaced with a queen bed for more room in the near future.)
Both bedrooms have newer mattresses and bedding, and thick fluffy towels. I also have an additional child-sized mattress, and a queen-sized airbed if you have more people than the beds will fit.
Cook, hang out on the deck or in the living room, wake up and take an outdoor soak every morning. Enjoy morning coffee and tea at home, or walk to something close-by in the neighborhood.
One driveway space and plenty of free street parking
Outdoor Hot tub
Fenced back yard
Interaction with Guests
I work weekdays, and I'm often away part of the evening/weekend so you may have the place to yourself much of the time. I always enjoy getting to know my guests - and I also value your privacy.
My neighborhood is quiet and safe. It's very enjoyable to stroll around: a short walk takes you to great restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, bars, and our seasonal Sunday farmer’s market. Grocery stores are nearby including a large full-service Asian market with deli; Fred Meyer, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s are a short drive away. Mount Tabor Park is great for running and hiking, and has fantastic views of the city. Montavilla Park has a playground, huge play fields, and a pool in the summer.
15 minute drive to the airport or downtown, or about 35 minutes on our excellent public transportation system. Buses run from a few blocks away every 10-30 minutes, and it's a short connection to light rail (MAX).
Other Things to Note
I’m a Pacific Northwest native and I’ll happily give you advice/research on any local attractions or interests, sightseeing, restaurants (including Portland's 600+ food carts), hiking, rock climbing, skiing, and trips to the coast or mountains. I can also give recommendations for Seattle and Vancouver BC.

I've welcomed every kind of guests from around the USA and the world: families, students, seniors, traveling workers, conference attendees, road-trippers and people just here to check out the Portland scene!
If this is your first reservation on Airbnb:
• Please tell me a little bit about yourself when you make a reservation or inquiry - where you're coming from, if your group is family/friends, etc. If you have a blank or meager profile I may ask probing questions.
• I don't have access to your contact info, and I am blocked from passing you mine until you make your reservation. If you try to give me your phone number or e-mail before then Airbnb will blank it out from your message.
• Let me know if you have questions about anything at all - my neighborhood, home or Airbnb in general.
Quiet time 10 p.m. - 7 a.m. weeknights. Please whisper if you use the hot tub during this time, or enjoy the silence. Feel free to quietly leave/come home early or late, it's quite rare that it wakes me up.
No smoking in the house or deck.
Fragrance free: please no perfume/cologne, they linger in my small house long after you're gone!
Check in/out times are negotiable, depending on reservations adjacent to your stay.
Mailing back personal items: $20 + postage.
From Jun 1 - Aug 31, 2015 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
We never ended up meeting David since we arrived late and left early, but we were extremely comfortable in his home and it was clear that he is very comfortable and experienced with making others welcome in his home. Communication was excellent, entering and exiting was a breeze, and his place was immaculate.
We lived in David's house during this Christmas. The house is clean and comfortable. It's a very quiet nice community. I really like the hot tub of this house, it makes me feel relax after one day exploring in the city. David is very nice and patient to answer our questions about how to explore the city.
Our stay at David's was great! Everything was easy to find. We were a total of 4 guests and the house was spacious for all of us to be comfortable, make dinner and relax. The hot tub was a real treat too in the recent cold snap!
Located near enough to downtown Portland, there are two major bus routes that take you to the city center, that are simple to use $2.50 (2 hours) $5 for a day pass. David's place is great stay, a work in progress (unfinished floors), the two rooms are quiet and very comfortable. David is welcoming and a wealth of foody information, we asked him about places to eat in and around the downtown area, and he provided many suggestions. One thing about Portland that I don't understand: waiting in line for donuts (Blue Star or Voodoo). But damn, their beer is worth any wait. David has provided all the amenities I wanted plus more, wish I got a chance to use the hot tub.
I have stayed with about 10 different hosts over the last few years and Dave's place is always my favorite....and where I stay when its available. Everything I need....great bed, laid back atmosphere and a host that really gets how to host.....the little things, like space for your food, some coffee, and newly painted now! Plus, he actually seems to enjoy hosting, which is something i can't always say.
About the Host, David
I love to travel and I love meeting and hosting travelers. I've been an Airbnb host since mid-2010, when I started there were two dozen listings for the entire city of Portland!
My neighborhood is a very pleasant place to stay, whether it's getting coffee, sushi, trying the new Lebanese brunch at Ya Hala, or a drink nearby or walking/running around Mt. Tabor park.
A few of my favorite things are bike commuting year-round, hiking, yoga, cooking, and eating my way around Portland. Whenever possible I'm out the door to visit a farmer's market, mountain, the Columbia River Gorge, or the coast. I love to travel as well, in the last few years I've been spending time in Maui, Cozumel, Tulum, and Thailand. I also visit my family in Seattle, NYC, Maine, and San Diego as much as possible!
Really good food, very close by. Great soups. They have a lot more than Pho (which is better at one of the Pho Hung restaurants or Pho Oregon anyway).
Closest pharmacy, just up Burnside to 82nd.
Sleepy little Thai restaurant, very friendly. Good for takeout too.
Large Asian grocery store with a deli and bubble-tea stand inside. Everything you need for Asian cooking, including an amazing produce/fruit section. Also carries a limited amount of American/Mexican.
Local fast food chain, some local ingredients - better food quality than the mega-chains, also higher prices. Right by Montavilla Park if you're taking the kids.
Large open park with a playground and several playing fields, pool open in summer.
Truly old school pizza. Salad bar. Video games in the back and an event room. Sometimes has long waits when it's busy, but it's good when you don't want something fancy or to feed a crowd.
Everything a coffee house should be. Funky interior/decor, old couches, sandwiches, pastries, and some of the best fruit & cream pies you'll ever have for great prices. A 10-minute walk away.
Southern-inspired farm to table. 'nuff said. Chef-side seating available. Good cocktails & great food including the fried chicken, amazing brunch. Slightly pricier.
Upscale, made-from-scratch bar food and drinks.
Happy hour 4-6, 10-close.
$4 second-run movies, art deco interior, pizza, beer, California Rolls (from Miyamoto): what more could you ask for?
Under 21 not allowed after 8:00 p.m.
Nice inside with a neighborhood feel. Drink menu has a mix of traditional and new cocktails. Be warned that their Oaxacan margaritas are *especially* lethal.
Great place, good for families and couples too. My parents always like to come here when they're in town. Extensive menu, good solid service.
Local simple brewpub, great place to hang out in the summer. Some unusual selections.
This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Portland. Not traditional but they have fresh fish and very good prices. They also supply California Rolls for the Academy Theater down the street.
Roscoe's is a bar's bar - younger crowd(website hidden)ables, etc. Bar food or you can order from Miyamoto Sushi, they're connected.
Good food, drinks, 2 happy hours. Nice laid-back restaurant (without being weird). As of 2012 you can walk through to their bar "Over and Out" in the back, good burgers and drinks and open late.
Northwest one-stop-shopping chain. The closest decent grocery store.
This is a FANTASTIC little neighborhood place for dinner/breakfast/lunch/coffee, great menu! Up near the top of Mt. Tabor close to the park, a short drive or 30 minute walk from my house.
One of my regular long-term guests uses this gym/pool and he loves it, says it's also quite affordable and blessedly attitude free.
Very nice clean little coffeehouse. Amazing pastries from Nuvrei Patisserie & Café in the Pearl.
Awesome Asian mall, more Vietnamese. Big grocery store with a meat/seafood counter and deli, and a few other shops & restaurants. More restaurants are tucked back next door just past the Starbucks.
Several food carts.
The biggest, newest Whole Foods in town. There's a smaller one at 28th & East Burnside.
Because it's there.
Local Portland Chain, similar to Whole Foods but more neighborhood-based. Closest branch and also smaller than most, check out their locations at 26th & SE Division or 33rd & NE Killingsworth.
Slightly funky district with restaurants/boutiques/shops/bookstores focused between 30th & 39th Avenues and stretches all the way up to 50th. A very Portland place.
A true Portland Icon: an AMAZING, enormous five-story independent bookstore the size of a city block. Also see their nearby technical bookstore, and their cooks and gardening bookstores on Hawthorne.
This is the largest concentration of food carts in Portland. They wrap around a city block and continue up Alder across SW 10th ave. Bordered by 9th & 10th Avenues, and Alder and Washington Streets.
Best local place I've found for bike rentals. Quality local bike chain with excellent mechanics.
(I get my bikes tuned up here every year during their winter special.)
