Interaction with Guests
I am local - so I can interact with guests as much as they want to
Location, location, location! This is probably the last "old" neighborhood this close to downtown. Lots of charming stores, restaurants and bars on South Congress with a dramatic view of the Capitol and Austin skyline in the foreground! Plus, access to parks and other green spaces, if you want to get away from the bustle. Finally, my house is on a street that connects directly to I-35, a major artery connecting parts of the city.
Walk to downtown (20-25 mins)
Bus to downtown (7 mins) - bus stops on S. Congress, 3 blocks away
Bike to downtown (5 mins) - rent bikes all over south Austin
Jay certainly made us feel at home. He did a great job communicating (via text and emails) with me from the time I booked throughout my stay. He place was very clean and as advertized in the listing. If there was something we needed, he provided it very quickly. For example, when I asked him about coffee and the ability to watch College Football Saturday morning, he brought by a coffee maker and installed an antenna for local TV channels that afternoon.
Finally, the location was very good for access to the heart of South Congress!
We enjoyed our stay...thank you very much Jay!
The house was immaculate and everything as advertised. Its location is perfect and quiet at the same time. I'd definitely stay here again. Jay also made great logistical arrangements for key pickup and had everything ready for us when we arrived.
Jay's home is immaculately-finished, very clean and extremely comfortable, and it's in an excellent location, close to SoCo's bars and shops (and in walking distance of Downtown) but far enough away from the road to be peaceful. Jay was a great host too - available if we needed anything, but respectful of our privacy. I would definitely stay here again.
Such a great experience! Austin is adorable, and Jay's apartment was a pleasant walk of about 25 minutes to downtown. He's just a couple blocks from the main street, Congress, with buses and taxis driving by, but I opted to walk -- you'll pass tons of cute food trucks and shops! :)
Jay was so welcoming, accommodating a late flight (and a slightly late checkout time). When I arrived, he showed me around the house, offered to answer any questions I had on the area over the course of the weekend, and even left me some snacks and a bottle of wine -- how nice is that? The apartment was clean, 2 bedrooms (only 1 used by me, the other has an air mattress available that wasn't setup due to my solo stay), adorable kitchen, and a clean little bathroom. He also has cable TV, which was nice at night before bed.
Overall, the house was exactly what I needed for my trip to SXSW. Must be willing to stay slightly outside of the city to be happy here, though, FYI -- which I was.
My wife, daughter and me had a fabulous weekend at Jay's home--other than the dismal play of our UT Longhorns. We walked each day thru his delightful neighborhood and took advantage of the great
spots on South Congress just 3 bocks away. Great little hideaway.
We had a very pleasant stay at Jay's home in South Congress. The location was perfect, allowing us to walk to many nearby restaurants and the classic Continental Club. The house was relaxing and Jay was the perfect host. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks!
Staying at Jay's cottage was the perfect way to experience Austin. It was a central location, easy to get to/from, but provide a welcome and relaxing respite from the craziness of downtown. SoCo is an awesome area from which to explore the city (and eat as many tacos as you can find). Jay was a fantastic host - from the little things he did to make us feel welcome (leaving us bagels and cream cheese, providing an empty closet full of hangers for our stuff) to the amenities his place provided (wifi, washer/dryer, amazing backyard), it felt like home and we didn't want to leave! I can't wait to go back and I would recommend Jay's place to anyone who is visiting Austin.
About the Host, Jay
I am a young professional that lives in the heart of Austin! I love cooking, which explains my updated kitchen. I love hosting parties. I have a large yard where I love to garden. I also love to travel - my last big trip was to Istanbul in 2013 (as evidenced by my profile picture!). Drop me a note and ask me anything - I love to talk!
