My home is located in housing development within walking distance of the village of Hilltown and the impressive Mourne Mountains, County Down, Northern Ireland.
It has eight public houses on the main street, a legacy from 18th century smugglers who shared out their contraband here. The village has a livestock market on alternate Saturdays, the Boley sheep fair and festival is on 2nd weekend of July and a large sale of rams in September. There is good fishing in the River Bann. There are convenience stores in Hilltown as well as a restaurant, post office, ATM
I have 2 double rooms, both with double beds. A modern home owned by a young busy professional couple. You will have access to your own lounge, shower and toilet, spacious garden, parking, wi-fi access and continental breakfast will be on offer
Perfect access to Mourne Mountains. Ideal location for hikers or those looking to enjoy a countryside getaway.
Recently an international standard Mountain Biking centre has opened up in nearby Rostrevor.
American Western style horse riding tours of the mountains adjacent to Hilltown.
Free Gym sessions in Local Gym (3 miles)
Our local area is Newry and Mourne, a quick search should provide you with lots of useful information and events.
Interaction with Guests
We offer as much interaction (or non) as guests would like
Situated in the heart of the Mourne Mountains - fabulous walks & views - visit the site where a scene from Game of Thrones was shot
Public transport is accessible from the village. A bus and train station within 9 miles in the nearest city of Newry, popular for shopping. The seaside town of Newcastle is a short bus journey away where hikers would trek the Slieve Donard Mountain, the highest in N.Ireland.
Other Things to Note
I have 2 friendly dogs which are kept outside and a cat which has access to the house.
We expect guests to treat our home as they would their own, relax & feel at ease.
My wife and I were made very welcome by El and her partner. She communicated well before we even booked, and she was there to greet us with a smile and a hot beverage! Like the majority of the people in Hilltown and the surrounding area, El and her partner are friendly, helpful and easy to chat with.
Their house is in a nice and quiet neighbourhood, just a couple of minutes drive from the centre of Hilltown. The house itself is clean and tidy, and our room was great - simple, warm and spacious, with a nice bed and a big closet. To be able to see a couple of mountains from our bedroom window was a nice bonus!
The bathroom was great too - clean and spacious with a bath and a separate shower.
The private living room we were able to use was our favourite part about staying here. The weather wasn't great during our stay, so we loved relaxing in this room with their free wifi and big tv!
It was also really handy that we were free to use the kitchen. So we made use of this freedom by preparing a couple of meals during our stay. We also had breakfast (- a simple continental breakfast, which El laid out in advance for us) at their neat little breakfast bar in the kitchen.
They have a nice cat that lives indoors, and three friendly and quiet dogs outside.
Overall a lovely stay with great hosts!
El was an excellent host to myself and my travel group. She made sure we had everything we needed and was very accommodating. The house was beautiful and very clean.
Very nice house in a small town close to the Mourne mountains. El and her boyfriend was very nice. I enjoyed to relax with them and went for a walk in the mountains with the dog.
El and her husband were great hosts. They welcomed us on a very last-minute booking -- despite that, everything in their home was clean and tidy. We enjoyed chatting with them and they had some great advice on where to go and what to do in the area. We would definitely come back and stay with them again!
We spent three nights in this Bed & Breakfast. Even though we had no access to internet before arriving, and therefore let them know of our arrival on a very short notice, El and her partner gave us a lovely reception. The house is clean and tidy, the living room, bedrooms and bathroom are spacious indeed! They suggested us where to eat and what to see (Newcastle, Slieve Donard and Slieve Gullion). We all enjoyed our stay there.
The bedroom and the house in general were nice, clean and tidy. We loved El's dogs! Even if we arrived late in the afternoon El and her boyfriend were very hospitable and suggested us a good place where have dinner. A good experience!
