Kathy, and her husband, were so kind and professional who enjoyed my teasing and gave me a history of the Island. The bungalow was very nice and exceptionally clean. The kitchen was well stocked and the linens very clean. The setting is incredible with views of both the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. Walking in the beach was refreshing. I was stay was very relaxing and peaceful. I can't wait to return for another stay.
"Fantastic Northwest experience" at a "beachside bungalow" is overselling this property a bit. The cottage is a well-worn double-wide trailer, modestly furnished - and is the third building back on a long narrow beachfront property (the very friendly Kathy and her husband live in front, and their other rental cottage in the middle). That said, it is clean and comfortable, with access to a nice pebbly beach with stunning views of Mount Rainier and the local ferry to-ing and fro-ing.
Andrea and her boy were very pleasant during the two, very brief, visits I had with them on their second day as they were 6 hours late for check-in. It was very dark when they arrived after 8:00 pm. I was unable to greet these guests, upon arrival, as I have done with my guests for over 25 years. After trying often, as I usually do, to make contact with Andrea, the day before and day of check-in, having received "no response" I thought something awful must have happened. We were ready for bed when I received a text message late 7:00 pm that they were still coming. After chatting on the phone, as I said I would, I reopened the house, left it unlocked, heat turned up, fire place on, and the lights on for their arrival as she did not have an ETA for the ferry. The next day I offered apple picking for her boy and was going to bake them an apple treat. I offered a boat ride and an Island tour all of which were not accepted. I was disappointed that Andrea and her boy were not able to enjoy the natural beauty of Anderson Island because as she stated, "I am really tired because I flew in late from Chicago Thursday night." They were gone the next morning by 8:00 am and left the "cottage" clean and in very good order. This unit not a double-wide trailer. This "cottage bungalow" is 1/3 manufactured and 2/3 stick built. The 300 foot path to the beach is lined with rhododendrons on one side; and our fruit orchard on the other side, for the first 150 feet, and opens on to an amazing view of Puget Sound, including Chambers Bay Golf Links host to the 2015 US Open. The weather was stormy that weekend and perhaps these wonderful vistas were not visible. After 25 years hosting this property, I am disappointed Andrea was not satisfied as are my many returning guests. Andrea's profile reviews did not include that she was, also, an Airbnb host with an extremely posh house on an Island in Canada. I would have appreciated Andrea's input face to face.

For 25 years I have been pleased to watch my guests at The Dell, short for Rhododendron Dell, enjoy both the beauty of the Northwest, as well as, all the fun of being on an island in the southern part of Puget Sound.
My guests participate in the same outdoor seasonal activities that my family and I enjoy while on the island: golfing, all forms of fishing, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, sailing, paddle and motor boating, hiking, biking, and swimming in fresh water lakes, beach combing, bonfires and more.
I have been blessed with many returning quests year after year; and, I always look forward to meeting new guests because I know what a wonderful experience they will have on Anderson Island in the Evergreen State of Washington, especially at The Dell.
