The Space

Casa Papalote is the Kite House. Please, Non Smokers Only. (Do to solar power and no grid power we do not use this home in the summer months from Mid June to Mid September) It's a wonderful little one bedroom one bath house with a loft above the bed and bath rooms. You can even slide down a fire pole to get down from the loft fast if you prefer. *** Please bring your own sheets (2 queen beds) and towels. *** Nearest laundry is about 25 minutes away so we no longer offer sheet and towels in this home. If you can not bring yours we will have to add 10 per night to the total. We are very sorry about this but our house keeper Carmen has to take a taxi or find a ride to go out to the house from town and then all they way back with the clean linens and towels. It turns into an all day event to clean the house.
The house is two homes off the beach or about 200 feet with a clean open beach access. There is a great spot to launch kites and the kite surfing in this area is great from March through November and some days in December right through Christmas. We have off street parking on the North side of the house and here is the kicker "It's a Solar Powered house" No electric from utility companies in this house. The refrigerator, cook top and water heater are LP gas but the lighting and some outlets are all powered by the sun. That is a feature we really love. Sunsets here are unreal as are the black sky nights with stars that just jump out at your and make you fall into a starry bliss. It gets a bit to hot to stay in July and August but spring and fall are fantastic. Fall being my favorite with cool air and warm ocean water. The water starts to cool off just before christmas most years and warms up again in March. We like April to July and October to Christmas. The house is really laid back and comfy with two couches and a 7' LoveSac (bean bag chair) The kitchen get new things every year. Cabinets, 4 burner cook top and maybe this year we will try out an oven or ? A small TV with DVD/VCR and a queen size bed make for a small cozy sleeping and a LP gas fireplace Heater for those extra cold nights in the winter. No AC but most of the windows have been replaced and have screens.
Clean sandy beaches with almost the entire beach to yourself is not uncommon. If you are looking for an un-crowed place to vacation with quite starry nights, you have found it. Come see why this is called Playa Encanto ( Enchanted Beach)

If you would like to have us bring out linens and towels, please let us know so we can adjust the price.

  • All I can say is WOW! What an incredible weekend we had at the Kite House!! It is a stones throw away from the beach and so inviting it felt like we've owned the place for a lifetime. Tommy and Rita were so kind to go out of their way to place an AC unit in the bedroom for our stay which was above and beyond and allowed for a wonderful sleeping experience on one of The most comfortable beds! The house was stocked with many beach essentials (umbrella, skim board, sea kayaks, frisbees) and the grill provided produced some of the best seafood I have had in a long time. The oyster bar near the house is KEY if you want the best fresh oysters and the most amazing crab tostada you have ever tasted. Be friendly and speak a little Spanish and maybe they will let you walk the inlet with them in the morning catching the crab and scrubbing oyster crates like they did for my husband and I. Can't wait to come back in the cooler months, this house makes you feel so safe, secure and welcome all at the same time it's amazing! Highly highly recommended!

  • An amazing get-away in the most beautiful part of the area. The estuary is teeming with life and the beach is so stellar. We had so much fun with the kayaks and other toys from the house. Great location to get away from it all and truly focus on relazation!

  • Casa Papalote was exactly what we were looking for and just as it is described. The two of us just wanted some privacy and beach access, and we are pretty conservative with water and electricity usage in our own home, so it was perfect. We only ventured into town once to stock up on groceries and contact family from Max's Cafe (free wi-fi and calls to the US). Being December, we mostly had the beach to ourselves. The water was too cold for swimming, but perfect for collecting shells at low tide and some kayaking in the afternoon. We were glad we gave ourselves plenty of time to find the house, as part of the route described in the directions was blocked by construction. Our little Honda Fit had to go pretty slowly on the dirt road which also added time to the trip. The neighbor, Rhonda, was indeed very sweet and helpful. We plan to return!

  • Casa Papalote is located on a beautiful private beach away from it all, yet close enough to head back to the city for anything you may need.
Things we loved(!): fresh seafood, fruits and veggies from the markets; kayaking with a pod of playful dolphins; beautiful, colorful sunsets; warm clear water; clean beaches; collecting sea shells; hardly anyone in sight; watching the sunrise from the deck of the house, the fire pole!
The house is simple, but very accommodating to all your needs at the beach. We would love to come back to relax again sometime!

  • Casa Papalote is in a great location, very close to the beach. Unfortunately it was quite a challenge to find, and we would recommend giving yourself an extra hour of travel time to accommodate for getting lost. We also were not able to to utilize the kitchen due to the refrigerator and stove being out of propane. We definitely enjoyed easy access to an uncrowded beach, and even used to sea kayaks for a while. Definitely much more peceful than hitting up the big resorts!

  • Our stay at Casa Papalote was great! Playa Encanto's waters were warm and turquoise and the beach was nice and sandy with lots of fun shells and little creatures. The house was just what we needed, a place to cook, sleep, and relax when we got too much sun. Our dog loved the cool tile floors and we enjoyed taking the kayaks over the hill to the estuary. When we arrived the refrigerator wasn't turned on and the neighbor Rhonda was over in a flash to get it working. She and her family also had us over for shrimp tacos one night! It was nice to meet Tommy who came by to restock some items, and it was fun watching him kite surf. This was our first trip to Rocky Point and it definitely won't be our last!

  • Great rustic spot "off the grid"! We loved it. The beach was awesome and the weather was spectacular.

Tommy and Rita were so nice, made us crepes and omelettes on Easter when we voyaged into town for supplies. Their friend Carmen also kept us deep in homemade tortillas, burritos and tamales...YUM!

  • Friendly people, safe place, close to the beach - very private!
Beautiful place to rest and relax. Very close to beach access, we brought our mountain bikes to bike along the beach.
The Casa was spacious for two people, loved the upper deck area where we felt safe enough to sleep outside and enjoy the stars at night.
The hosts are friendly and know the area well.
Stay here - more private than the resorts on the other side of town!

  • What an amazing 4 days! This place is perfect for the beach getaway. Removed from town, we loved kayaking and taking in the sun.

Rita and I are very outgoing out door people who love the beach and water. We spend as much time as possible at the beach kitesurfing, riding our horses and motorcycles or flying around the beach in our ultralight airplane. We love dogs and meeting new people. We like to travel and explore new places and try new things.
