  • Amazing stay at Ka awa Loa Plantation. Michael and Greg are natural hosts and were extremely accommodating and friendly during our stay. The view, the breakfast and the rooms were wonderful. We stayed in three BnBs during our time in the Hawaiian islands and this by far was our favorite.

  • A friend and I stayed one night and were so sad to have not had more time at this wonderful place! Michael and Greg were so warm and welcoming, and the fresh mango juice when we arrived was amazing! Everything from the gorgeous porch to the breakfast with fresh fruit and taro bread to the outdoor lava rock showers felt like a true Hawaiian experience. Highly highly recommended!
We will be back for sure!

  • The plantation is very well situated, with a magnificent view on the coast.
The welcome is very nice and warm.
Rooms are spacious and very well equipped.
The breakfast is a delight, and I do not find words to qualify the fresh juice of mango and these divine pancakes ......who are now at 13000 km from me !!!!.... sniff !

  • Beautiful!! After a few nights roughing it at Volcanoes National Park, my friend and I arrived at the Plantation Guesthouse and felt we had found heaven! Seriously - we raved about how much we loved it all night. So comfortable and charming…nice hot tub…and Michael was a great host. He gave us great advice about the area and made killer breakfast. Hopefully we'll return one day!

  • Michael, Greg and Hannah are great hosts who run a fantastic, unique bed and breakfast. They went out of their way to provide information and help us find and book local activities. The building and room facilities were beautiful, historic, maintained to perfection while still having character. Mangos and local fruit, nuts and coffee are grown on the property and served for breakfast. The experience was far better than any hotel. Don't be shy about driving up the 25% grade from Napoopoo Rd. – it's well worth it!

  • Absolute paradise! This was the last stay of our trip and the most enjoyable. Everything about this place was perfect. The house is a massive plantation style house with six rental units. The first floor has a spacious kitchen and sitting area. The back porch is enormous; I estimated it might be 150' including the wrap around to the side of the house. The view looks down from the hillside to a bay, across old lava flows, and over lush tropical growth. Each morning we were served a beautiful breakfast that included local fruits and other hot and cold items. Michael was a great host, and Hanna, who greeted us when we first arrived, made us feel instantly at home. I give this BnB highest marks, and recommend it to anyone without hesitation!

  • I wish we would have stayed at Ka'awa Loa Plantation guesthouse our entire trip! We stayed in the Suite and we were instantly comfortable and relaxed. The grounds are stunning and Michael, Greg, and Hannah are the best hosts you could ask for. The house has the most spectacular view (the only drawback to the view is the very steep driveway - well worth it though!). The breakfasts each morning were delicious and it was great to try new tropical fruits.

We will definitely stay at the Ka'awa Loa Plantation if we are lucky enough to get back to the Big Island!

  • There is one word which describes the Ka'awa Loa Plantation and the two hosts best: perfection. Michael and Greg are experienced, warm and welcoming, their breakfast fabolous. For us it was 4 days in paradise!

  • It's hard to describe how wonderful Ka awa Loa Plantation Guesthouse is!!! From the moment we drove up and saw the jaw dropping view from the huge wrap-around verandah, we were enchanted! This is a special place indeed. Our hosts made every moment memorable from lovely breakfasts to arranging a couple's massage. The interior is a delightful blend of unique furnishings sprinkled with Hawaii decor. We loved the lively interactions with other guests....when we weren't too busy relaxing! Hah! :-)) P.S. Our bathroom was across the hall from the bedroom. The shower was offered to other guests for optional use. We had no problem with this arrangement as there are also "outdoor" lava showers that most people chose to enjoy.
