Two level apartment with three bedrooms and a garden on a desired street in Brooklyn. The spacious living room connects to a large dining table and a well equipped open kitchen with a breakfast bar. Located close to subways, Prospect Park and shops.
The ground floor opens to a comfortable living space with a large dinning table, a well equipped kitchen and a breakfast bar. You'll also have access to a working piano, and a great music collection, plenty of CD's and LP's to listen to. In the kitchen, you’ll find everything to make you feel like a chef, professional tools, knifes and a large sink. Condiments and spices are available.
The garden in the back of the house accessible through the kitchen has an outdoor dinning table for six people protected by a large umbrella. When the weather is nice, the garden becomes our dining room, a perfect place to have refreshing diners with candles. A simple bathroom comes with a tub and original tiles.
The bedrooms are located on the second floor on what is called the "parlor floor" with its high ceiling and parquet. Two spacious rooms offer two double queen size beds separated by a large walking closet that opens with double sliding doors, when opened the rooms become connected. It can be a nice option for a family with small children who need to feel the presence of their parents close. Next a cosy room with a single bed is perfect for an older kid or an adult. These rooms are very quiet and relaxing, painted with their warm colors and cooling fans.
We have 2 cats who will be going through the apartment to access the garden. They are very friendly, will stop by during their excursions and might take an occasional nap, but you won't have to take care of them or feed them.
If you would like to stay, please write me a message first. I love hearing about you and engage in a conversation before you book the house.
The apartment is private and accessible by a single door located under the stoops.
The rental price includes 2 cleanings, before your arrival and after your departure. For guests staying a longer period (over 14 nights) our cleaners will be coming once a week.
There is WIFI, dish washer and air conditioning. We don't have access to TV channels, but you can plug your computer or devices to a TV screen to watch online movies. We have cables and can help you setting it up if you like.
Your laundry can be dropped at a reliable and clean laundromat near by. During the warm days there is an umbrella in the garden for drying clothes. I love the fragrance clothes get when dried in nature.
Interaction with Guests
We understand that when our guests arrive from their travel they want to find a quiet and relaxing place. We usually leave the key in the mailbox and invite them to enter on their own. We also prepare a few snacks and drinks in case they arrive late at night.
My husband and I live in an apartment upstairs and are near by most of the time. We'll be happy to meet you after a good night of sleep.
Depending on the circumstances, there are times we won't be coming downstairs at all,
and other times when we'll end up having diners together and get to know each other.
What I really love is when kids run through the all house playing with the cats, visiting us upstairs, laughing and being happy. I also have wonderful memories enjoying diners with our guests, always curious about each others lifestyle and cooking. Sometimes we manage to go out together, sharing my favorite places of Brooklyn, going to hear local concerts or visiting neighborhoods that are not in the touristic guides.
The press says that Park Slope is one of the most livable neighborhood in New York, this is true, we feel very lucky and love living here.
Prospect Park near by is full of things to do year around, from enjoying picnics while listening to summer concerts to ice skating or sledding in the winter. The Botanical Garden with its abundant fragrances is one of my favorite place to relax in Spring. And during the hot summer days, I love biking or taking the subway to the Far Rockaway beaches to plunge in the sea weaves.
I love how much food we can find around here, from the celebrity chefs restaurants to the local vendors cooking delicious specialties in their trucks. Seventh and Fifth avenues offer so many great restaurants and shops that you don't feel the need to go to Manhattan anymore for high quality food.
We are also so lucky to have many great choice for grocery shopping with the Whole Food market on Third avenue and the week end farmer markets. You'll have the opportunity to taste delicious organic vegetable from the best local farmers and really fresh fish from the Long Islands fishermen.
And if you like coffee like I do, there are many high quality cafes with great personalities owners who will give you a real sense of the neighborhood while you'll be drinking your favorite coffee.
Every night you can hear great (email hidden) Barbès on 9th street and 6th avenue, an authentic local and cultural place.
We are in between 2 subway stations, 16th street and 9th street on the F line. I prefer getting off on 9th street and 7th avenue because while the walk might me a little longer, I can shop or stop by at the nice Deluxe cafe.
It takes about 20 minutes to go to Broadway Lafayette downtown Manhattan and 45 minutes to go to Central Park.
Other Things to Note
The only thing we want you to be careful is not to let our cats out through the front door. They are not used to the street, we don't want them to get into trouble. Thank you for keeping an eye on them.
Please no smoking inside the house. Smoking is permitted outside in the front and back. There are ashtrays provided in the garden.
Our cats are not used to other animals, they won't be happy if dogs come into the house. They usually hide and get upset.
We understand that objects can brake, it happens. Please let us know when something needs to be replaced.
bonne literie ( 5 vrais couchages) .
Quartier calme , nuits paisibles , grasse mat possible .
Valerie's place was well located. There were several days during our stay where we chose to spend the entire day in the park slope area. There are plenty of charming cafes and restaurants and Prospect Park is delightful.
Valerie was a wonderful host. Even though she lived in the apartment above us, she respected our privacy. The apartment was comfortable and very tastefully decorated. We had guests over on two evenings for dinner and the kitchen was well-equipped.
The journey time to midtown Manhattan was 45 mins which some people might find too long. For us the liveability of Valerie's place and the charming neighbourhood more than made up for this.
Valerie's cats are easy to love and provided us with ample amusement. However, I would not stay at Valerie's if you dislike cats.
We would definitely stay again at Valerie's. On our last day she dropped in for drinks and we had a bit of a music session together on the piano. She was very good company.
Great location - handy to everything yet safe and quiet.. Good transport close by and lovely areas and good restaurants within walking distance. Apartment was well equipped and bedrooms good size with comfortable mattresses. Valerie was a lovely, welcoming hostess who was happy to assist with our enquiries. Diego and Rosita were very friendly and always up for a cuddle on a lap. Would definitely recommend.
Valerie is the most warm and welcoming host you could wish for - we feel we have made a new friend !
It was an absolute joy to be able to spend ten days in her lovely Brooklyn home while we caught up with our family who live just round the corner. Park Slope is a perfect base to explore both the obvious delights of Manhattan and all the quirky charms of Brooklyn.
We have spent 10 days in New York and Valerie’s house in Park Slope was perfect for us. All of us instantly felt at home here, including 1 teenager, 13 years old. Valerie and Oscar are great hosts and easy to communicate with. Their two cats are very nice and affectionate and they were often around during our stay. The house is just beautiful. There’s a fantastic kitchen and a big living room downstairs, 3 nice bed rooms with a big closet upstairs. Plus the pretty garden in the backyard makes sure that there is enough space for everybody. The neighborhood is very friendly and safe, shops are around the corner, gorgeous Prospect Parc is nearby and the subway takes you to Manhattan in 20 - 30 minutes. What more can you ask for? This place is a real gem and a wonderful oasis in New York City.

I have been living in this house with my husband, and our 2 cats for over 10 years. I was born in Paris from Tuscan parents and my husband's family is Mexican. I speak 4 languages and am happy to communicate with you also in French, Italian or Spanish. I put all my attention to providing a cosy and safe space and love special details such as fresh ironed bedsheets. I'm the happiest when our guests tell me that they feel at home, especially when they have traveled a long way with their family.
I am an illustrator and designer, my husband is a musician and frequently travels to perform. We both come from food business related families, cooking for a large amount of people is very much part of the custom of the house. We also like hiking and exploring wider landscapes, we're especially fans of the West, Arizona and Mexico.
After 2 years with airbnb I'm proud to have become a "Super Host", it means that my goal for making our home a reflection of our creativity and lifestyle is a real success among our guests. It gives my husband and I the chance to becoming better artists while sharing our roof with fantastic people.
