A stay at the quiet farm (chickens and guinea fowl aren't noisy, are they?) and you will leave refreshed. We have a large room, with a comfortable bed, plus a small desk. An adjoining private bath gives you all the space you need!
Stay at an organic farm, where we raise vegetables, baby goats, and chickens (fresh eggs). We have horses, a donkey, a sheep and dogs and cats (no allergies, please!). You will have the "master bedroom/bath", with kitchen privileges, and of course, the great outdoors. Located near the gold mine town of Julian, great shopping, and local antique stores galore, San Diego offers it ALL. Only 9 miles from the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park. Beaches, mountains, great views, open spaces, and San Diego Nightlife within an hour...this is a great home to share for a few days, or stay for a while in the country.
Our "neighborhood" is very quiet - our closest neighbors are over 1/4 mile away, and the only noise that you hear are the roosters bragging. You can enjoy the patio, walk on paved roads, or drive out to great hiking sites such as Iron Mountain or Volcan Mountain.
If you enjoy casinos, there are several nearby, including Barona Mesa Indian Reservation, and Santa Ysabel Casino.
NOT TO BE MISSED: Julian, and Julian apple pie!!
Access to kitchen if desired, big screen for DVD's (no cable or TV), internet/WiFI.
Interaction with Guests
We interact as much or as little as you like. Since this is a "working" farm, you can pitch in, sit and enjoy the views, or explore the local communities! We are generally around, but you will have privacy, as needed.
Peaceful town of Ramona is in the lower mountain area of San Diego - above the "fog" line, and we get plenty of sunshine! "Valley of the Sun" is the town nickname. Formerly "Nuevo" (or New Town), and it is named after a character in a Helen Hunt Jackson novel. Visits to the local antique shops, and the nearby community of Julian, are worth the drive!
Renting or having a car is essential. The public transit bus runs on "demand", but not on a regular schedule. Bus will take about 2 hours to get downtown (a 45-60 minute trip by car). Directions will be provided, and we recommend that you try to arrive during the day.
Kitchen can be shared; we have enjoyed meals with our guests, and often invite you to share. We recycle as much as possible - all food scraps for the chickens and goats; glass, cans and paper and everything else to the "blue" bin.
Please pet the goats, cats, and dogs. Feed the donkey. In the fall, we have apples from the orchards - or fruit and veggies; Please Don't chase the chickens - they give us fresh eggs!
Tera's sister Tracy made me feel right at home and part of the family. She and all the animals were great fun. If you are planning a trip to the Ramona or Julian area this is a wonderful place to stay.
The booking process was easy and straight forward. On arrival we were made to feel welcome. We were shown around the property and intoduced to the farm animals. The owners gave us access to all areas - we were free to go and use whatever. There are also 12 cats here! The 4 nights we spent here were fantastic.
The goat farm is in a beautiful location. Although it is right outside Ramona, the house is very private with great views. Tracy was there for my visit, and I felt right at home using the kitchen and playing with the kittens and baby goat.
Staying here was by far one of the most amazing experiences since moving to San Diego. Tracy and Tera's home is an oasis in Ramona. Nothing beats waking up to the chickens, fresh eggs, fresh goat milk, hand picked vegetables and the beautiful scenery. The house itself is very spacious and has many amenities. The room was very comfortable, had a private bath and a nice desk to work on. Tracy and David are great and I truly enjoyed talking to them when I came home. The house is located off a main road and is easy to get to; the commute to San Diego only took around 40 minutes in the morning. Great host, great room, would definitely recommend and stay here.
My husband and I were seeking a three-day getaway not far from San Diego: as Easterners helping out with a new grandchild in the city, we wanted to explore the countryside, and the Julian and Ramona area fit the bill. Our stay with Tera and her sister Tracy included interesting conversations about travel, their work, and their community involvement. They were very helpful with local guidebooks and suggestions about where we might visit. The large bedroom with en suite bath was quite comfortable. But the special treat is the wonderful menagerie of animals and gardens surrounding their home on the outskirts of town...brand new baby goats, kittens under the dining room table to play with, dogs, chickens, horses, doves, a pot-belly pig, sheep, a donkey...for animal lovers, it is a paradise! For breakfast we helped ourselves to a choice of fresh eggs with beautiful pale pink, blue or green shells, then drove up the road to see the Mount Palomar Observatory. During our visit we also visited a local winery for a tasting, sampled various restaurants, ate a slice of the wonderful apple pie available in Julian, then drove across part of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park on our way home...all-in-all a very special trip!
My wife and I stayed in a large room with ensuite in a lovely home in the beautiful rolling hills of Ramona. The hosts were warm, friendly and inviting. We shared stories and some meals together, and the goat's milk and fresh eggs were wonderful. We were able to enjoy the many animals on the farm, and even pitch in a little as farm work can be fun! The organic garden also had much to offer. The surrounding area has lots to do and only an hour from San Diego. We would consider coming back next year. Thanks!
We got on brilliantly with Tera, and with her sister Tracey too. It was such a relaxing stay, and Tera offered us much more than we could have hoped or expected. Cruz and I were plied with Christmas sweets, tasty snacks, creamy milk, even some fine wine. Invited out to a salsa party. Shown around the farm and introduced to the animals. Given information about places nearby like Ramona and Julian. And we enjoyed chatting with these two very interesting active women. The memories will last forever! Thank you so much, Tera.
Outgoing, outdoorsy type - love to travel, and have been in several countries. I have lived in Korea, Japan, Iraq and Puerto Rico; and traveled in Finland, England, Bahrain, Switzerland, Italy, Cyprus, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, China and all over the US, including Guam and Puerto Rico. My sister and 'co-host' has lived in Thailand and also traveled alot. We are very open to other cultures, and love to see how other people do things! We would like to share our "American country" lifestyle, with all the benefits of California's great weather and scenery, with others.
I like to travel "off the beaten path". When you come to our place, we will help you get to know the area, and experience the best of San Diego, Ramona and Julian. We are a "home away from home"!
